  1. From reading others posts' date=' it seems like the post-op nutrition plans are very different. For example, mine is:

Day 1-3: Clear broths, Jello, sf popsicles

Day 3-7: Add mashed potatoes, sweat potatoes, low fat creamy Soups (drained), cottage cheese, soupy grips, soupy oatmeal

Week 2: Soft foods aka plastic fork tender

It sounds like others might be more restrictive? Can anyone share a high-level post opp nutrition plan of theirs? Also, when I had my gastric bypass in 2004, I remember pureed foods being allowed, but my nutrition info doesn't mention that. It also doesn't mention when I can start having eggs. (But, I went ahead and had one for dinner last night without any trouble).

    Thanks!

I had soft scrambled eggs during week 2. They were so good after only having only liquids. My diet was as follows:

    Days 1&2: Clear Liquids

    Rest of week 1: liquids

Week 2: mushies, including soft scrambled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc

Week 3: fork tender meats as tolerated

  2. I was banded on Friday. Today I am feeling a mix of starvation and sick to my stomach. I do not see how I can make it on full liquids for 11 more days. Any tips on how to survive?

Believe me, you do not want to put anything but liquids in your stomach right now. The Protein shakes should make you feel full. Change them up and try new ways to change the flavor. I put some instant Decaf in mine and still do once in a while. It tastes great. You can also put frozen strawberries, mixed berries, bananas, etc to change it up. Hang in there. It's worth it.

  3. Hi my name is Tammy I live in Denton I go to McKinney every Wednesday to meet my friend that lives there would love to meet up and talk.

Hi, Tammy. I love your user name. I lived in Lewisville for a few years before we moved further north. I think I prefer the country. I'm not far from McKinney. My youngest son works at Wal-Mart there.

It would be great to meet up some time. I won't be able to this week, but next week would be great. I've love to chat with someone who is further along in her journey. Did your friend that you meet up with also have lap band?

    Look forward to seeing you.

  4. Thanks. I guess i'm worrying over nothing. There is a definite bump but it's not like I'm going to be showing off my belly anytime soon. I guess I freaked out because i have a shirt i want to wear when I lose about 70 pounds. It's knit and form fitting so the bump will definitely show through it especially' date=' with the added weight loss. It's my goal shirt and when i can, i'll wear it proudly, bump and all. Thanks for the advice :)[/quote']

My port is in about the same location as described in an earlier post, and I was concerned about the location as well. I can feel it easily, and I'm hoping that it doesn't poke out after losing the weight. I to have a shirt that is in my goal range. I'm worried that it's going to be identifiable later. If I have to, I'll ask the doctor to move it later if need be. I don't want to look like I have two belly buttons, one inny and one outy. Lol

  5. Right' date=' for the first week it is. But after that, the gas is absorbed in your body but the band/tubing can cause irritation to your diaphragm and then give you that same pain in your left shoulder. I restarted my anxiety pain meds and am hoping that might take the edge off. If not, maybe try gabapentin like I did to calm the nerve pain from my leg after surgery...[/quote']

I think that's why I'm not having problems with it now. I take gabapentin daily to relieve problems with MS.

  6. Hi, Stephanie. That's a coincidence on the names. We adopted or oldest two boys and keep in contact with some of our previous foster kids. There's some more in common.

I was banded on April 24th. I have been on a liquid diet for a week and get to start eating soft foods tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a bowl of malt-o-meal. I read somewhere that that is a good transition food.

I had to do the high Protein, low carb diet for two weeks prior to surgery. It wasn't too hard. I had already been eating healthier, just not able to lose the weight.

I'd love to chat anytime, no matter where we live. Besides, we have a lot in common. Who knows, we could be related. Lol

  7. My name is Jessica Bilodeau. I was banded on 4/24/2013. I've been doing ok on the liquid diet but am looking forward to adding soft foods tomorrow.

I am hoping to find a buddy in the North Texas area. I live northeast of McKinney in a little town called Trenton. I would love to find someone in my area where we could get together once in a while to walk, chat, just to encourage each other. Some of my family was not supportive of my decision to have the lap band, but I know what I needed to do for myself, and I'm happy with my decision.

If you'd like to buddy up, even if you don't live in my area, please send me a message. I think this forum is such a good idea to encourage each other.

    Jessica

  8. My surgeon thinks I have esophageal dilation but he doesn't think its a big deal. My family dr disagrees so she ordered an upper GI.

I was diagnosed with MS in 2006. Three years ago I started having difficulty swallowing so was sent to a throat specialist. He did an upper GI and found that because of the MS, I was having difficulty with esophageal dilation and stretched the bottom part of my esophagus. I still have problems once in a while, but it's helped.

I thought this would cause problems getting banded, but it didn't cause concern. The surgeon said that he can tell I had the stretch done, but that it is not in a place that should cause concern with the band. I'm only 6 days post-op so don't know how it's going to react with real food, but I'm optimistic.

  9. I'm day 6 post-op and don't have any pain in the shoulder so far. Yesterday was bad though. I pray I don't have any of that pain for as long as some people have had it. I was told that the shoulder pain was because of the gas they put in the abdomen to have room to work. If that's the case, once the gas is out of the system, the shoulder pain should be gone too. I hope.

  10. Question! I have had the worst time with air bubbles. I've been vomiting air all day...not burping' date=' like actually vomiting. I just got banded last Wednesday and I'm worried the retching is going to hurt something. Anyone else experienced this?

I've been walking and trying to get it out, but it's not helping....this is the worst![/quote']

I was banded 4/24 also. I hadn't had any dry heaves until today. I took a gas-x and ate a sugar-free popsicle. I'm feeling better now, but still having a lot of air bubbles. I've tried walking too but it hasn't helped with the gas. The only things that seem to help are gas-x and a hearing pad.

  12. I had surgery to remove my gall bladder after it ruptured, but I don't remember having this kind of pain. I'm sure everything is just settling. I made the mistake of not having something before leaving for church this morning, and my sugar dropped significantly. It's hard to keep track of calories when I'm just on liquids and to make sure I get enough of everything.

  13. I was doing really well this morning. Got some decent sleep last night, and didn't wake up in pain. Dummy me forgot to fix a Protein Shake before heading to church, and boy am I regretting it! My sugar dropped while in church, and I started getting nauseated. Them the gas pains hit with a vengeance. I am not doing that again. I was able to drink half a Protein shake very slowly and take some gas-x. Now I'm just waiting for that pain to subside a little more. Does anyone else have problems with drainage at suture sites? Three of mine were draining during church and I kept having to go out to blot them and clean my shirt.

  14. I got a microwave chip maker from pampered chef and it's nice to make veggie and fruit chips. I can make apple' date=' zucchinni, sweet potato and they taste good, but aren't loaded with the fat, grease and salt like store bought are.

However, if any one gets one, you do have to play around with the time in the microwave to get it right.[/quote']

That sounds like a great idea cause my problem is craving salty. This could give me a healthy alternative.

  15. I had my surgery Wednesday, the 24th. I have almost no energy. I have had different surgeries previously and never felt like this. The abdominal pain is more of a discomfort, and the shoulder pain is almost non-existent. Another thing is that I woke up very grumpy this morning. I just do not feel like myself.
