  1. I think she meant hard cider, which is often carbonated like beer. It seems that some people can tolerate carbonation and others can't. Go with what your doctor says if in doubt.
  2. Gamergirl, your "stretch receptor" theory is actually correct and this is the mechanism by which the sleeve and bypass work long-term. Look up "water loading" which is a trick you can use before a meal or to temporarily stave off hunger. It's also why dense protein keeps us full so long.
  3. I have been eating about 1000 calories a day most of this holiday. But I'm not able to even break even when I count my running and how much walking we have been doing. I swear I have dropped another size in the time we have been gone (3 weeks). Still 5 days to go but there will be less walking. It's funny though. When there is less exercise I am a lot less hungry and eat a lot less.
  4. Next to last run for Couch to 10k completed -- 55 minutes of running. Friday will be the last day at 60 minutes straight. Newbies, 14 weeks ago I was one of you. If you are wondering whether you can really manage it, I say you can. It's ok to go slow, even really slow. Speed will come with time. I'm still slow. I only finished 8k in the 55 minutes. Who cares? I'm lapping everyone who is on the couch! And no, running probably won't make you drop loads of weight. But it does create even more of a calorie deficit and it is so good for your heart, lungs, and mood!
  5. Wow, Dee! Way to go!
  6. I am losing heaps of hair every day when I wash my hair but my hair is so thick that honestly I don't care. I'm sure it will grow back so I don't stress.
  7. Anything dense or hard to chew. Dry chicken, steak that isn't too tender, thick or dry pasta. It's generally easy to predict so far. I had a tough time last time I was in Insia because the region I was in bases every meal on roti, which is a dry flat bread (not naan) instead of rice. I could only have a tiny amount or get the slimes. I lost 6 kg in 2 weeks on that trip.
  8. No I haven't scheduled a race yet. I haven't gotten to 10k yet, only 8. I had knee pain when I walked for about 8 hours one day and ran the next. All back to normal after a day of "rest" (only walked maybe 3 hours). I have another day off before I run again.
  9. Finished week 13! One more week left of Couch to 10k!
  10. I have been taking gastro stop two twice a day for a month! Eat some soup, Lissa. Maybe egg drop or got and sour or a bowl of Vietnamese pho. If you can tolerate dairy have Greek yogurt. Try a probiotic. Inner Health is apparently the best one. It's behind the counter at the chemist. Good luck!
  11. Good luck Ausmith and your husband! The heparin injections really aren't a problem. You may hit a vein by accident and get a huge bruise but it isn't anything to worry about. We are now in Lake Tyres, having left Canberra last night. On our way to Melbourne today and for the next four nights! I've been faithful with my running and have not had any problems with food. I've had several glasses of wine so far and even had some thin pizza and some nachos. The running covers a multitude of sins as I have been negative on overall calories most days! We are doing a ton of walking too. My shorts I bought for this trip (size 16) are falling off. Thank goodness for drawstrings. Hard to believe I was 5 months post-op on the 14th!
  12. Hurting his feelings? The guy who told you after the first date that there was no spark? Why are you being so much nicer than he is. Just a simple no thanks will do nicely.
  13. I'm 5 months out and have had hunger nearly the whole time. The difference is that it doesn't rule me. It comes at the "right" times, it isn't for specific foods, and I don't feel a compulsive need to "fix" it like I did before surgery. It's also satisfied by less than a cup of food by volume. Not a big deal. I expect it might change.
  14. 5 months post-op and still have normal blood glucose numbers with no medication. I was type 2 diet and metformin controlled. To reiterate, type 1 is auto-immune and can't be "cured." Type 2 outcome depends on how much of the problem was insulin resistance and how work out the pancreas was.
  15. Just go up a level to see all the threads in the Aussie sleevers section and it's right under this one. Without looking I think her name is Anna. So far only Americans have answered her.
  16. Anyone in Melbourne who can help out a gal who posted a new thread in the Aussie forum?
  17. Just finished week 12. I'm on holiday and currently in Sydney and where we are staying is very hilly so it had been challenging! I'm feeling the hills in my hips. Two weeks to the end of Couch to 10k!
  18. Checking in from Newcastle. We are going to check out the cathedral and climb to the top to get a good view, then check out the museum. We already explored the historic section of the CBD yesterday. We are also going to take a very cold dip in the Newcastle Ocean Pool. This afternoon we will be in Sydney for the next four days. We will be staying in half a house that the owners made available on AirBNB and we will be convenient to the CBD via public transit. It will be cheaper and better than staying at a hotel. We prefer living like locals when we can. I got my run in yesterday in Port Macquarie. 7km along the Water. It was gorgeous. I'm proud of myself for continuing my running regime. Eating is going well too. My restriction is good so I don't even feel like I have to make perfect choices. Between not eating much and so much walking and running I bet I will drop several kilos over the next three weeks on the road!
  19. Checking in from Port Macquarie! Tomorrow we will make it to Newcastle and check out the baths, then four days in Sydney. Having a blast so far. So much walking! I can't imagine this 25 kg ago.
  20. We are off for our 3-week road trip to Melbourne! Everyone take care. I will probably check in a few times and read what you're all up to. The plan is to eat sensibly, stick to the running plan, and have a ton of fun! I already realized I forgot my fitbit so I won't get credit for my steps but that's ok.
  21. It helps me to remember how much I hated it when people commented on how much or what I was eating. It was none of their business. Now I just tell myself that too. If it's a poor choice they probably know it is and feel guilty already. Feeling guilty never helped me get healthier.
