Bariatric journey Multiple procedures Since 2024 Post-op

Everything posted by bahuber5477

  1. I work in the recovery room and usually the best cocktail for nausea is dexamethasone, zofran, Emend, scope patch. Phenergan works very good post op as a second resort.
  2. The pre op diet sucks! but its necessary. I am a nurse and I work in the recovery room and I know this the difference between possibly having to go open VS laparoscopic when it comes to the actual surgery....Worth a week of a crappy diet. If there is any thing to look forward to you will not be hungry post op.... Good luck, Brittany
  3. absolutely. I got mine out about 9 months post op. Was a pretty easy surgery for me! Good luck
  4. This is a great place to come for information! Some of it just has to be taken with a grain of salt.
  5. Ok, I am sorry I gave you the advice I did then. You didn't include any of that background. The only information that was listed above was that you were able to lose some weight on your own and was wondering about where to go from here...Good luck to you on your decision and your surgeon and bariatric nurses will guide you through the process and give you more information about what is expected and whats to come.
  6. I don't mean to be rude or anything but i guess if i started at 219 I wouldn't of had surgery in the first place.....Its such a lifestyle change and a commitment to change that I just don't think I would of made that choice. I would of focused more on healthy eating and exercising. I don't regret my surgery but at the same time it definitely has given me the tools to understand if I would of really put my mind to it I probably could of did this on my own.... Good luck to you in making your choice. Its a life changer no matter what you choose. Brittany
  7. It is honestly not even recommended to drink the Protein shakes right after weight loss surgery anymore. When i had my surgery they preached this so much however when i went to my 1 week post op appointment i told my surgeon what was going on, he gave me a huge hug and said you can wait a while until your belly can tolerate it. Just take things slow, Jello, Clear liquids. stuff like that. Good luck hun. Walk walk walk to that will make the bloated feeling get a little better.
  8. Ill be perfectly honest. I also had to have my gall bladder out and it was the easiest surgery ever. I felt so much better I was back in the gym the next day regardless of the instructions lol. Im a nurse and I never listen but in all honestly it was a cake walk and I felt immediately better. My band was very tight the night following surgery so just take it easy with what you eat.
  9. I also got my gall bladder out about 6 months post op
  10. Honestly I have the mentality of if the band is omptimal DO NOT MESS WITH IT . About the worst thing that can happen is youll have to do Protein shakes or yogurt for Breakfast until your level is good and you can advance. Take things slow. I honestly doubt it will affect your band for very long. Good luck to you....All things that we face as lap band patients...Most of all dont forget to enjoy your trip! Brittany
  11. I know for me 5 days post op I could eat like 3 bites of mashed potatoes or like a couple bites of soup and feel like i was so full I would explode. Stick to soft stuff and liquids for a while. Let your tummy heal.
  12. Just do it. Thats my best advice. It was one of the most awful weeks of my life lol. I know thats a little dramatic but I was working almost every single day and I Was cranky and tired and I had terrible headaches. Just do it. Its all worth it and youll forget about it soon enough.
  13. Honestly dont worry about it. Its short term. That pre op diet nearly kills everyone....I drank like maybe two shakes a day and that protein bar that came with optifast. I hated that soup and I hated the vanilla shakes and it turned out ok...I lost 16 lbs in 10 days. Consider it a boost in your weight loss success. Youll get through it. We all do! good luck on your upcoming surgery.
  14. My first fill was like this as well however my did Dr. did fluoroscopy right away to find it. My port was nowhere near where we thought it was.
  15. Congrats. Its a life changing experience and one heck of a ride physically and emotionally. I had my surgery on 4/25 and to date I have lost 103 lbs. Before getting surgery realize you have to embrace your old eating habits because the band would stop that. In fact eating junk food is the easiest thing to do so know its a change but one I will never regret. 70 lbs to go and Ill get there some day. I never thought I would say that Good luck to you and if you have questions feel free to ask. Its a 100% lifestyle change. I work out most days, I count calories, I follow up with my nurse/surgeon, and I do my best to stay accountable. There are set backs in the journey. Be ready for bumps in the road.
  16. Ten months out and down 103 lbs.
  17. Have you been on antibiotics? Could be thrush. Common with oral antibiotics sometimes
  18. Sweats, sweatshirt, comfortable shoes. Bare minimum and it's all about comfort
  19. I drink shakeology every day! Only protein shake I like!
  20. It sort of sounds like your still stuck. Sometimes I think part of the piece that stuck goes down while theres still partially some there....The last time i had a bad stuck I drank a pop and it went down. I dont drink pop ever but I was desperate and someone told me once that it helped expand due to the fizz. I figured anything was worth a shot. Good luck to you, Brittany If you have additional questions I would call your surgeons office....
  21. my fills are done without fleuro and run about 115 dollars after insurance. I find this to be an ok rate especially now that my band is almost at the right fill level. My bariatric nurse does my fills and although i love my surgeon dearly i think she is awesome and truly is my preference for fills. Everyones different
  22. Yep just had mine out a little over two weeks ago. im so happy its gone i feel much better! Good luck to you....
  23. Gasx would be better honestly but you can try it it won't hurt anything it might make you feel better
  24. Reglan is a miracle drug if you ask me. It helps with nausea and tummy pains and also has a secondary action of increased gastric motility. After surgery people are generally backed up so this works in a variety of ways. im a nurse.....reglan does wonders for me. As far as gas pains its common after surgery and you will have them for a while....i suggest gas x strips...they worked well for me
  25. Proud of you to!! I agree lap band was the greatest decision I have made to date. I am nearly 8 months out (Christmas exactly) am down 90 lbs. Started at 308 and am now down to 218. im so happy with that. I know I have a ways to go until I get to my goal weight but for once I know im actually going to get there some day. Its been a great deal of work along the way but its a lifestyle change and im never packing those lbs back on. I love all the energy I have and I am determined to kick butt at this journey. Again, Congrats on all your success!! Brittany.
