  1. Hey all. I was reading what you ladies were saying, and I do agree that sticking to your doctors plan is best. However, the whole point of having the LB surgery is because we clearly had some issues with food. It is not always easy going from overeating to not eating and drinking liquids only. Regardless of what everyone says on here, we have all cheated on way or another. Yes it is important to change your mindset on food, but I wouldn't say if you don't stick to tour pre-op, you won't do well with the band. The best thing to do is get back on the band wagon and keep going. Everyday is a learning process. You really have to just take it one day at a time. If you do have a bad day of eating wrong foods, best advice is to be active and drink plenty of Water. However, what grkprincess said is true. If your liver has not shrank enough, you could put your surgery in jeopardy. So make sure you stick to the plan as much as possible. Also, maybe you should consult your doctor, and inform them that you are struggling with your pre-op and see if there is anything he will allow you to eat. So it won't be as rough for you. I wish you goodluck and keep us updated.

  2. Chest and shoulder pain so badly

Hi Mysa, This part sucks. A lot of people say the liquid diet is a right of passage, but I think the dang pain after the surgery should be. The best advice I can give you is what everyone else has told me. That is to walk, walk, walk, drink Water and stick to the diet your doctor gives you. This will go by so fast, it will be a memory. I pray a speedy recovery for you, in Jesus name. Amen.

  3. This weekend I've been hungrier than a mofo. Been eating everything in sight all weekend like my old self. Just got banded April 5th. Could it be time for a fill? Wondering if I should have chose the sleeve instead.

If you keep that up, your band may slip and you may have no choice but to have a revision with sleeve done. Be careful and again, just remember why you did this. If the doctor has cleared you to eat, make better food choices, and eat foods that are high in Protein and low in carbs. Eat to live, don't live to eat. Good luck. :)

Once you get your fill, all that will change. Your mindset and relationship with food is something you will have to work on as well to be successful. Good luck. Just remember why you did this, :)

  5. I am doing okay! doing little walks here and there.. I am still at my mom's and debating on if I want to go home yet, my apt has stairs to get to.. How are you doing? Crafty, I am the same way I think it is just a case of cabin blues so to speak.. just remember, it can't rain all the time. Sherri, Goodluck on Tuesday!

You will get there Jenni. Just relax and take it slow. Enjoy allowing your family to help take care of you. Don't push yourself too much. Remember, you just had surgery, and your body needs that time to heal right. You don't want any future complications that will cause you to have to have surgery again. Good luck! :)

  6. I was doing really well this morning. Got some decent sleep last night, and didn't wake up in pain. Dummy me forgot to fix a Protein Shake before heading to church, and boy am I regretting it! My sugar dropped while in church, and I started getting nauseated. Them the gas pains hit with a vengeance. I am not doing that again. I was able to drink half a Protein shake very slowly and take some gas-x. Now I'm just waiting for that pain to subside a little more. Does anyone else have problems with drainage at suture sites? Three of mine were draining during church and I kept having to go out to blot them and clean my shirt.

You should really take it slow. Seems like you may be doing a lot. My incisions are not leaking, and I haven't heard too many others complain about this either. Please contact your doctors office tomorrow and inform them of what's going on, and in the mean time. Give your body a break, and relax.

  7. Hi group, I just want to encourage everyone to not compare your recovery to others. I have noticed that there are some that say they recovered quickly and others like myself that are still not feeling 100%. I am on day 5 of my recovery, and I am still popping pain killers like they're skittles. I am walking as much as I can, but also allowing myself the R&R my body needs to heal and recover. Don't push yourselves too much, do what you can and focus on just getting better. Everyone's recovery is, and will be different just like everyone's weight lost journey differs. It is good for those of us who are healing and recovering quickly, but it is also ok for those of us who are taking it easy and allowing our bodies to do what they were made to do naturally. Walking has helped me, but resting and relaxing has been good for my mind and body. I have also learned that depression may sneak in, but it is normal to feel a little down. Due to the fact, you have just made a huge life altering decision, and it is going to take sometime to adjust to a whole new lifestyle. For me, when I am down or not feeling well, I would turn to food for comfort. So what do you do when your body no longer allows you to do that? It's like detox, or going through withdraw. So feeling a little sad, or down is expected. This message is just to encourage those of us who may be asking ourselves, what the hell did I do to myself!? I know that this transition and healing process is only temporary, and we will survive, and succeed in the end. Hears to us! (holding up my Protein shake) :)

  8. I started my pre-op diet today, I can see why you cheated. This sucks!! Lol. We will get through it though! Good luck!!

    Hi Creekwood,

I just finished my last pre-op shake before my surgery tomorrow. My appt, is at 9:15am. I can say the two weeks went by quicker than I expected. Good luck on your pre-op, I hope you have better success than I did. :)

  9. Hi, I fell off the wagon. I hit the red zone and had to be unfilled and went crazy..now I am trying to get back on the wagon and finding it hard to eat right again. Anyone have any advise?

I'm sorry to hear that. Why did you have to get the unfill, and what were you eating? Whatever the case, you will be fine. Like Suebee said, you've done it before, and you'll do it again. Just get back up, don't stay down, and just remeber where you were when you started and how you felt about yourself. That should motivate you to never want to be that person again. Good luck, and all is well. God bless. :)

  10. i think the majority of us are stronger than we know

we have failed so many (diets) in the past so why wouldnt we (fail) this also

my dr told me this pre op was to shrink my liver.....he told me how he did a surgery on a lady who did not follow his instructions and he couldnt operate...i could not fathom that happening to me.....and hence i did not (cheat)...i was too scared too..doesnt mean i didnt want to i figured id come this far and i told myself if i was able to get the surgery, id do whatever i had to to make it work.....just know you can do it..i believe that....you gotta walk through the darkness before you stand in the light..

Thank you Carolina, and congratulations. :)

  11. Again this subject comes up. Yes you are only cheating yourself, I for one di cheat almost everyday, I was a little heavier than you but it didn't make a difference to my surgery, I went thru it with flying colors Your diet after your surgery is different, you will be able to eat mushies by week two, your band, if not filled, will only limit what you can eat. Once you get your band filled you wont be able to eat anything but what is on your list or you will vomit it up. You did a great thing, you limited your calories for that day, if you are going to cheat, do not eat ANY fat, it is to shrink your liver, if you don't have a fatty liver most docs wont make you go on a diet, I did so I avoided FAT like the plague. You can do this, we cannot change how we eat overnight or why we eat overnight, don't be so hard on yourself. If you were heavier I would tell you to not cheat. I didn't tell my doc that I cheated and they all know that we do, someone on here said that 90% do cheat, I believe that or we wouldn't need this weight loss surgery. I am an opponent of building up and not tearing down. Hang in there, you will find your way! Good luck on your surgery.

Thank you Lori. I just don't want to set myself up for failure, but like you said, it takes time to change bad habits. As they say, "Rome wasn't built in one night." I also belive the statistics that 90% cheat. How do they expect a food addict to go from eating McDonalds one day, to just drinking Protein shakes as a meal. It is really tough, and takes a lot of discipline. Like B-52 said, you wouldn't need the lap band if you could do it on your own. I was really hard on myself at first, but I understand that I have a problem, and this is what I am doing to get help. It's a process, and I have to be honest with myself, and work hard to change, and get the results I want in the end. Thank you for all the support. This has really helped encourage me, and restore my hope. :)

  12. They never really went into detail on the purpose of the diet. I thought it was just to help start the weight loss process, and to get me prepared to a new way of eating. My pre-op visit is tomorrow, I've actually been doing pretty well besides today and the salad yesterday, and I've been working out everyday. My surgery is not scheduled until Tuesday. So, I still have time to get back on the horse and finish strong. Wish me luck, and thank for the replies.
