    Step 1

Hi all. I'm going on 5 years with my band and thankfully no problems as yet. I have however regained a lot of weight because of bad old habits, an extra portion here and there and now everywhere. I'm still happy with my band and as I still get fuller faster and I still have episodes where my food gets stuck so hoping that means all is still well with it. I wish to fill my band but even the slightest fill prevents me from swallowing and give extreme tightness and pain in my chest. Anyway I have this great tool amd wish to kickstart again. So as bad as it mau sound I need a kickstart with max weightloss. What is the best way to start? I am from South Africa where the specialist are few and far between and the dieticians do no know much about the surgery. The products are also non existent. I still have all my menus and I am wondering whether a puree diet will be the best? I will starve to death on liquid? Please give me some pointers. Thank you.
  2. Hi all. Sad to say that I have fallen of the wagon so bad. But I say it's OK, as long as you keep trying right. I've got the band and want to go back to the basics. U have made an appointment with my doc for 29 March to discuss beginning again. But before I get my hopes up, please answer me this... will filling the band to the max allow me to go on a soft food / puree diet for a month or two? Thanks xx Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hi all, I had a fill today. First in 2 years. Apparently I have a 10ml ring and I'm at 6ml today. Came home, had some drinking yogurt. Took me about 30 mins to drink 150ml, tried coffee a while later, not much luck. My esophagus has a bubbly sensation and is making funny noises. Will this go away? Will die of embarrassment in public. Dreading solids if this is how I react to liquids. Doc is so far. Only three in the country Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Fill after 2 years.

Went to the doc again today. He removed 1.5 ml. The pain went away immediately. Ugh but now I only have a 0.5ml fill which will probably not make much of a difference. I'm in Krugersdorp. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Big book.

Me again Anyone have the Big Book on lap-bands? Is it useful? Oh and how do I buy? I see you can use PayPal. Buy do they ship a hard copy or do you get PdF? I'm from South Africa. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Please help.

I had a full yesterday after 2 years of being on 4ml. I am now on 6ml. I got home and had a bit of yogurt and coffee. Took almost an hour. All was fine except for my noisy esophagus. This morning I was OK, had some coffee sipping very slowly. Ever since I had the worst chest pain ever. Even struggling to breathe. I was sliming like crazy. Couldn't take the pain so I went to my GP to take out a ml. GP couldn't help as he did not have a "huber needle". I eventually burped and all was well. I had a few sips of milk as I haven't eaten in 24 hours. Barely took 2 sips before the pain returned. It's the worst pain and I surely can't live with it. So is the tight band somehow trapping gas in my chest? Will it go away or do I have to get unfilled? I can only see doc on Friday and it's quite a drive there. Don't want to go unnecessarily. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Fill after 2 years.

Lucky you. Went to the GP, he stuck me so many times without success so I have to drive through to doctor tomorrow. Ugh. Wishing you luck xx Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App
  11. I feel the same. You think the device will make even the hunger disappear. If only! Think the hunger will always be there, this is when you have to make the choice to eat healthy and small portions. Went to the doc yesterday and he said 3 ridiculously small meals and two Snacks. This means 3 meals of about 200ml food. This is where my mistakes slip in as my brain cant imagine eating only a few bites and being full, then I have a spoon more and more and before you know I'm having normal portions. Luckily we have the band. Such a great thing. Thankful I could get one though. Good luck ☺ Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Fill after 2 years.

Hi Jimpal, so happy to hear from a fellow South African. That's exactly what I did so I drove all the way to get a fill. Still regretting it a bit, so full and sore. If you feel the device grinding your guts it's terrible. As far as I know they Only have surgeons in CT, PTA and Benoni. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Less restriction in evenings?

An article was posted by a doc a few days ago. 13 things you need to know when you have a band - something like that. Apparently the band has different phases during the day, morning it's tight as the body waking up and at night the esophagus is in full swing. Now I finally know why I always choke on my Breakfast. Ok What is PB and Slime?

This happens when you eat too fast or don't chew properly. Your esophagus turns into what feels like a vacuum. Nothing in or out. Until you vomit slime and the food. Sorry it's gross. And it hurts. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    stuck food

Wow this is the worst. Happens at least 1 every 2 months. Only vomiting helps. Eeuw. And it's painful. Stop eating and take a minute just to get it down. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    best present ever

Hey all. Just scrolling through the forum for some motivation. I've been banded for about 8 months and am down about 50lbs. I lost some motivation and I returned back to my old habits, not eating as much as before but all the wrong foods. But happy that I have not yet gained anything since. Head hunger is killing me. But getting back to to 'best present ever' I believe that the band was the best thing I've ever done. Sometimes I regret getting it but that's only because I can't eat starters, main and dessert. But then I realize I don't even need all of that food. Its amazing how we can survive on so little. Every time I see an obese persone I just want to hand them my doctor's number! The band is an absolute must have. I love buying new clothes and getting all the compliments. That motivates me to get on track for the last 30lbs.

    Overeating help

Babynae I'm happy too hear I'm not alone. Was banded 27 july, lost 30lbs really fast in the first 8 weeks and since then just gaining and losing 1lbs. Its my own fault though. Every dat I'm pushing my boundries, eating one more bite, having one sip at the wrong time, thinking tomorrow is another day. And quess what, tomorrow I eat even more! food addiction is a legit disease, definitely thinking of seeking professional help.
  20. I'm 4 weeks post op. First 2 weeks I lost 21lbs which was amazing, last 2 weeks I have been gaining and losing, I don't want to get on the scale anymore. I've got 50lbs to go, and that big loss was a huge motivation. Now I look in the mirror and think 'same old story, try so hard, lose some weight, pick it up again' - what the heck, I might as well eat what I want. A further problem is portions. I'm unfilled and don't need big portions but whilst having my last bite, my head can't believe that that small portion is all I need to be full and eventually I take one more bite, and another and.. How can I get my head around this? I spent soo much money and time making this decision and can't fail in this!

    Getting frustrated

I feel your frustration! I was banded 27 june 2013. I've lost 21lbs to date. In the begining weight drops everyday. Now I've picked up 4lbs and don't know why. It frustrates me because before the band I use to eat a lot and stay at same weight, now I actually eat a quater of that and still no loss. I feel like I'm destined to be chunky!
  22. I'm 11 days post op, down about 16lbs- very grateful for that. Problem is I'm having terrible pain. I've read some post about the vegus nerve damage and now convinced that is what I have. Ever since the surgery I've had a runny nose and my ears are muffled(not due to flu). I also have servere shoulder and stomach pains. At about 2pm everyday and when I start to get hungry, each hungerpain will be 10times worse than before banding and that shoots up the worst pain to my shoulder, that lasts up to an hour. Will this eventually go away or am I stuck with this for life??
  23. Hey ladies, seems like you are all doing well? I will def fly accross the world to come get some of that soup! I do not allow myself in the kitchen as I fear I might just lick everything that's tasty, which is everything at this moment. Anyways wanted to ask whether anyone 'feels' the band. I'm either having suvere hunger pains or this thing is scratching on the inside!

    post op q's.

Okey 4days post op. Feeling like my old self again. Paying attention to my water intake so not to stretch pouch..but..I am starving people! I'm fine during the day but when it comes to my last meal I wana make it last as long as possible, then I lay an bed and hear my stomach rumble and begging for food! Does you stomach also shrink during this process?
  25. 3days post op, doing good. Gass pain gone, rest managed by pain meds. I am on 6 125ml portions a day with 1500ml fluids. Not too bad. I have a q about the fluids though... Can water stretch the pouch? How do you know whether it has been stretched? I don't drink 30mins before or after meals but I'm thirsty all day. Can you drink a glass at a time or must you sip the glass or only sip small amounts?
