  1. Found out two weeks ago that the insurance denied it saying that it was a cosmetic procedure and I didn't fall in the guidelines despite the fact my BMI was 39.8 and I have asthma. I have appealed it and my nurse advocate has been trying to get in touch with the medical director at the insurance. We are still waiting.....

    Still waiting!

I went ahead and submitted the paper work for the appeal process. I'm hoping I will hear something soon....all this waiting makes me feel like I'm in limbo.
  3. Well we heard back after a month on Tuesday and it was denied because my BMI wad 39.8 instead of 40. My nurse said she has never had an ins deny because of that especially since I also have asthma. She has already appealed it and is supposed to be talking to the medical director at the ins. I am trying to stay positive but am feeling discouraged.

    Thanks for encouragement!
  5. I met with the surgeon about 2 weeks ago. They submitted everything to the insurance and now I'm just waiting to get the approval. Anyone else in the same boat?

    Best Protein Shakes

Yes that is the name. It does have a website but you can't purchase from there. It does show a list of retailers. I got a can of the double chocolate today. I'll let you know how it tastes.

    Best Protein Shakes

I've been checking out the designer whey powders. The have similar nutritional info as the unjury but use stevia instead for the sweetener. They are also a lot cheaper. Has anyone tried this brand?

    Waiting

I met with my surgeon the first week of June and am still waiting for the insurance approval. I have united healthcare too. I'm guessing they are ones to drag their feet. I'm going to follow up again on Monday! I'm ready to do this, but can't w/o the ins. approval.

    Best Protein Shakes

My doc recommended the Unjury and provided samples. I like this brand a lot, only thing is you have to order online.
  14. I met with the surgeon last week and they submitted everything to the insurance. If everything goes well, I am anticipating a July surgery date. That's my birthday month, so I'm saying that will be my birthday present
  15. I met with my surgeon last week. He is so nice and attentive. Everything should be submitted to the insurance this week. I hoping for a quick response!

  18. I met with the bariatric team yesterday at the hospital I will be getting the lapband procedure done. I am still awaiting insurance approval, but for now, the nurse put me on 1200 calorie diet, 30 min a day exercise plan. Whenever my procedure is scheduled, I will be put on a stricter diet a week prior to the procedure, but I'm not going to focus on that right now. So I'm buckling down and trying to stick to the plan, as I know this will make for an easier transition after the procedure. This is a lifestyle change and the lapband is only a tool to assist with weightloss. There will be many changes I will have to make along the way for me to be successful, so here I go.

  20. Perhaps you should talk to some other surgeons. I talked to 3 different ones before I made my decision. I heard about the sleeve from them all, but the one thing that stuck with me regarding the sleeve is that it's a newer procedure so they don't have a lot of long term data on it yet, and it's a more drastic procedure that requires cutting & removing a portion of your stomach, and it isn't reversible. The surgeon I went with didn't recommend the sleeve over the Lapband for those same reasons which made sense to me. This is a big decision so you should wait until you are ready and feel at ease with the program/doc that you decide to go with. Good Luck, keep us posted!
  21. Welcome and congrats! I am waiting for approval now. I found this site not too long ago. I am currently reading the book they mention on the site. I recommend. It pretty much covers everything and is an easy read.
  22. Congrats! My surgeon had said he likes to have people stay overnight to make sure things are ok before sending them home. I think I would stay if I had the option though. Keep us updated!
  23. I have my appt for the psych evaluation scheduled & an appt with my surgeons nurse coordinators to go over their program. Hoping everything goes well.
  24. Psych evaluation and meeting with dietitian scheduled for May 6th.
