  1. I had a great experience.....all went well and my surgical experience was very similair to my experiece w/ Dr Ortiz and my band placement almost 5 years ago.

But our after care was better and I really loved the nurses at the clinic......also three leak tests and had a great time recovering!

My surgery in US would have been at a same day clinic so this was better than I would have gotten locally, but I also was comfortable with the clinic idea.....but my bmi is very low and am very comfortable with this type of setting.

, however I would not have my mother in law use him in a clinic setting.....hospital yes, clinic no...... but only because her comorbities are huge and her bmi is high and she is over 67......but she needs her band out. She needs a full hospital w/ icu due to previous issues....... but this is why we can all choose what works best for all of us!

I also went alone... and had a wonderful time and felt well cared for.

  2. I am a stay at home mom............but with eight kids....five disabled....it is a full time job 18 hours a day! My surgery was my vacation! I went back full force the night I got back...... It took about a week home 10 days till I felt really normal. THough I am still avoiding picking them up as much as I can!!!!!!! (harder than you would think!)

If I had a desk job I would have gone back that monday....same if I was still teaching...... may be two.....depending on how I felt.... but I felt great!

  3. I was back to my normal life the saturday after surgery (tuesday). But I am a mom of 8 and have very little choice but to be and act normal. I just started adding thin liquids / full liquids today.

I have been a little tired, but to be expected with the limited caloric intake about 700 or so for me. But I am getting in my all my Protein (2 rtd Isopure zero 40 g each) and doing all I usually do....except my three mile walking....I can add that back next week. (that is 3-5 loads of laundry a day , running everywhere, driving my car, making food for all of them .....actually the hardest.....cause I never realized how much I cooked by taste, had a cup of coffe today....so I am sure I will be up later this evening.....but my day starts at 5 am so 8 pm to start to run down is normal here............ but I have one teething so I am up a lot with him all lnight and another who is autisitc and he has had issues sleeping lately!)

But all in all so far nothing is really out of the ordinary except me trying to hide my scars from the kids and everyone else.....not wanting to scare them after loosing it.

I have had no issues like vegas angel.

THough I have this inane need to want to eat my kids baby Cereal......really thin cream of wheat tommorrow and I want it so bad.

Only real problem is same as when I had the band.....I am afraid I will not be able to eat with the kids....except for mushies..... cause I will need to make sure I concentrate and chew really well.....right now I had 2 root canals monday so trying to avoid this discomfort on the minimal chewing I did with the cottage cheese / yogurt mash really hurt and I was worried that it might be like my band.....but I think that is more my parinoia and fear.....not the reality.

I just know that the 1/3 of cup of mashed yogurt cheese stuff filled me up!

  4. They held the tourists who were in front of us w/o passports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the Tijuanna crossing. THey entered Mexico prior to the first of June.......but were returning after the June 1st deadline

    Mexico

If you have the enhanced DL you might be OK......... but I would not chance it....... Detained by US athorities is one thing, Mexican athorities is another.

I lived in SOuthern Mexico for 20 months....... not that much fun with Mexican Police or border patrol. Make sure the US state department SAYS and ge tthe person's name in writing and print out to take with you incase they are wrong.....so you are covered......

but I would pay the extra 24-hour processing fee if you want that day,....... I learned after living there for so long.....you do not want to "buck" the norm or you can be in for trouble.

My personal experience......others may have other..... but........ again I wouldn't want you to get there and be wrong!

  5. I got mine expidited and got it in 7 days....... you could actually book your flight early and go to a processing center and get one...... there are seven across the us.....

BUT YOU HAD TO HAVE IT AS OF THE June 1 09. Only kids under 16 can still use a birth certificate!

  6. I had one and half successful pregnancies with my band.....breast fed all three with it....and pumped all week while recuperating.......I will look for the link of the articl I just printed for my doctor on managing the ob visits for bariatric patients.

I think the one thing both of us would have done different this last pregnancy (ended w/ premiee due to emergency band removal due to strangulation) would have done monthly Protein checks and realized the intermittent leg swelling was not related to my ppregnancy .....but the Protein deficiecy due to band..

I had never swelled with my othe two.....but I was considered a "geriatric" pregnancy so every one kept blowing me off....even when I had belly pain......told to not worry...all pregnancy issues (not my ob...his partner.....mine freaked out when he got back and realized what happened!

But there was a list of other tests the should do....... I will hunt it down for you

  7. I am told is it is normal reaction to anethisi about 6 weeks out. COurse I just started loosing mine from the baby (about 4 months late) right before I went to Mexico.

However none of my children experieinced this with their open heart procedures.....but they all have chromosomal diffeneces so a lot of things that happen to us "normies" do not happen to them and vice versa!

I will see if mine slows down or stops this time.... I never really lost it with the band surgery or with either of my other two pregnancies.

  8. I would have stayed in the US if at home here in STL.....my kids require way to much to keep the eight of them going...............but then I could not have fibbed about what I did.............

So far the only one other than my husband who noticed my scars was my one some who doesn't talk!

But for me and my family most of it is about money. And my husband is laid off after the 24th on July............. so I still went....but we found out after I had mad plans, put the deposit down and had the check cut.............I would have canceled.....but he didn't want me too!

And I didn't use any pain meds but liquid tylenol (kids with the adult dosage) and stoped that after my flight home

  9. I know each situation is different. I am still breastfeeding.....hell I pumped all through Mexico....woke up and pumped............... (should have seen the purple border gard when he went through my bag or the fact I wanted no pain meds by plain tylenol)

so in my case I need to be at at least 1000 cals with a minimum of 100g of carbs and 60 -80 g of Protein to keep making milk......but that burns about 500 of them.

(also why my weight loss has been so great since surgery - 14.5 today)

  10. My husband thought it would be six weeks too....and he was pouting (it has been a a horrible year with all the band problems and the emergency c section)...... then I jumped him about an hour after we got the kids in bed the night I got home!

    Still alive at this moment!

  11. I am sorry. The lap band was not covered 5 years ago due to the investigational issue..... could they do it as the first step to ds and just forget the rest......if you are heavy enough? If your ins company might cover that?

I really am sorry.....I know how hard it it was when I was told I could not ge tthe band...... so off to Mexico I went. Had they had the sleeve as an option five years ago....I would have skipped the band...... but other than the last 3 months of my pregnancy I never had issues and I did love my band!

  12. Well I wil be interested. they could not use the buterfly stiches and the glue cause they used the same holes as three times before!!! so I have actual stiches on four of them. The other was fine with the glue!

I was going to look into something.

THough I know the ones I had with the glue were so very small after 6 months the only one you could see was the port one (for the band) and that one they left alone this time.

  13. My new PCP will order them for me... she should just code the teasts as she would if she was ordering to my understandining it is not a "bariatric panel" or a special upper GI... I only paid out of pocket for stuff I didn't want my insurance company to know about.....fills and other stuff. I did go to Mexico for an endo scope....... but that was when I had the band.

You could say wour are experienceing a lot of reflux if you wanted,,,,, I do not lie but I do not give my insurance company any more information than they need either. I even waited to get life insurance till we were past the " why did you loose so much weight and the 3 year surgery / doctor look back"

and if I needed Fluid or their was an Emergency they would send me to the hospital here where there is a Bariatric Program and he would take care of it under dyhydrations,....... usually the cause is not the issue....... for my with the big emergency I had with my band.....they paid for all, including the consultations with the bariatric surgeons the xrays and endoscopes..... the anethiasologist (sp) and all the or stuff just not the surgeons fees for the actual surgery or when he tried removing the last 1 ml (which was suppossed to not be there)....... he is still fighting my insurance company due to the life threatening for me and the baby......I sort of gave up........ I just decided it was worth ot not to have gotten the whole bill!
