  1. Not telling my family and coworkers had nothing to do with bring ashamed or planning to fail. However this was a highly personal decision and i didn't want the scrutiny of my coworkers everyone i ate something or fielding questions all the time. I am the youngest person I my office and everyone else is old enough to be my mother. I don't think they would understand my need or reasons to do this. The best advice i can give is to tell who you want when you want. You aren't required to tell anyone but go with your gut. Just know if you tell one person they will probably tell others so be prepared for that.
  2. I only told my boy friend who i live with and my best friend. I didn't even tell my dad and I'm not telling my coworkers--i told them i had to have my gall bladder out. My support comes from the people that i went through my six month classes with. My coworkers don't need to know. Its none of their business. They saw me losing weight steadily during the six months prior to surgery so they won't be surprised when i continue to lose weight once i go back to work.
  3. I also live in baltimore and my reg support group doesn't really cater to bsndsters. Would love to form a local group.
  4. I am one week post surgery today and experienced hiccups--but I was not eating--and hadn't actually eaten anything for almost six hours when they occurred. I read a lot about people who say that this is a soft indicator of being close to full--but what about hiccups from lack of eating? Could this be a sign that I have gone too long without having something in my stomach? I had been sipping Water during the course of that non-eating. I also read that it could be a sign of a slipped band--but since I haven't even had a fill and am only a week out--could there be any other reasons triggering this to occur? I don't know if it matters but I did start the mushy stage two days ago and haven't had any issues with the transition from liquids. Thanks for your input!

    strong!!

Are you pregnant now? Because the standard wait time is 18 months to 2 years before you should plan to get pregnant after ANY bariatric procedure. Otherwise you may have complications related to the restricted diet/nutrition required. Since you shouldn't be taking any estrogen based birthcontrol due to clotting risks for the first 4-6 weeks postop you will need to use secure forms of birthcontrol because weightloss will increase your fertility. No doctor should install this on someone who is pregnant.

    Tight band?

At support group it was explained that band tend to feel tighter in a.m. because the fluid shifts when you lay down.they suggest drinking warm liquids in a.m. before eating and this helps. You can get decaf tea bags and try for a few days to see if this helps.
  8. I don't have a link to this information. It was emailed to me by Allergan via a .pdf file. However, you can request the same information via the online information request on the allergan website. The nickel is contained in the anchors that hold the port in place, I think.
  9. I was concerned about the same thing, and I asked Allergan to send me the components so that I could have allergy testing completed. There IS nickel in the Lap Band port--and even though it's coated, I was still concerned. I went to an allergist and had a whole plethora of tests done to confirm that I would not have reaction to the nickel in the band. If you are concerned, you can always be tested. I requested the information from the Allergan website, and they emailed me the listing of components to provide to my doctor. Good luck!

Sorry men i need to ask

try some decaf hot tea. warm liquids are filling and will help you to feel satisfied. I'm struggling with the same issue as you--but I'm sticking to plan as much as possible. Also, depending on your preop diet--if you are doing shakes, add an extra for additional protien. Your body is burning more calories, so offset it with approved diet foods. You can do this!
