  1. I am one year post-op sleeve.
I struggled with losing weight for the last six months, was constantly stalled.
But I didn't gain weight (except for 3 1/2 pounds during holidays, which I've already lost).
So starting January 1st I started eating MORE calories, like a LOT, like 1300/day and guess what? I'm LOSING weight again.
My guess is my body had adjusted to the lower number of calories and was holding on to everything it was getting.
Or maybe my body just needed a rest.
But I feel like I had the longest stall in weight loss surgery history.
Happy now to see the scale going down daily!

So, I've attempted to do this for a couple of days but I just can't do it. I don't know how you're able to eat that much, but my sleeve just won't allow me to. I got up to 1200 calories once like three days ago, and I am still full. I'm averaging 750-900 calories on average. I guess I'll be stuck in the 190s for a while. :(

  2. I was wondering when does the tummy swelling and recover from the trauma of surgery really go away? I’m 5 weeks PO and still am very sensitive, and still feel as if I’m swollen.

It wasn't until my sixth week before my pain subsided. Just keep walking and taking it easy. No heavy stuff yet. Best wishes!

  3. It’s not a big risk tbh but I need some greens in my life!! Tried spinach and it was horrible on my stomach two weeks back buttt today I’m risking it gonna try broccoli at 7 weeks hopefully it won’t kill me. Anyone else try it this early?

Yes, I was good after 4 weeks postop. I didn't eat raw vegetables, but cooked ones. Then at five weeks, I added lettuce and have been eating salads ever since. Good luck!

  4. Thank you, [mention=144804]Lady VS[/mention]. So I had my band placed in December 2015 and I was gung-ho and super excited and followed the plan to the letter. Didn't have restriction so I went in for a fill. Repeated a few times until I went in my last time (probably a year before I conceived my twins) and I told the doctor I was still hungry and when I burped I cleared my pouch. The doctor gave me a little more Fluid to get restriction and when I drank Water it made a gurgling sound in my esophagus so it was too tight and he took out the Fluid. He said I was at my max restriction and shouldn't tighten it anymore. It's very discouraging.
I haven't made up my mind 100% as I haven't seen a surgeon yet but after I had my twins I went back in and my current doctor suggested revision rather than refilling the band. Said for 50% of patients, the band does not work at all so he wasn't entirely surprised and it's falling out of favor.
I don't want to do a bypass, though, if I'm still able to burp and slide whatever I eat right through my pouch [emoji20] I know that sounds kind of stupid because it's an entirely different setup and the stomach is literally bypassed but that was my issue before. I so wish I could find someone else who experienced this because it seems like I'm abnormal!
It's like if you had a clogged drain, and then you pushed the clog aside for a second, the Water would drain due to the air bubble in the clog. That's what burping did for me. I couldn't control it either, it's not like I swallowed air intentionally. But as soon as I burped the satisfied feeling left immediately. I gave up because of that.
Anyway, definitely want to talk to a surgeon about this. I want a second opinion and I want to know what would be different if I DID do a revision.

Knowing what I know now about the band and have experienced major issues with it, I would say revision is necessary. I just recently revised to the sleeve in November. It's weird because it still feels as though my band is still there without the stuck feeling. I am very restricted and you would think I am half way to goal, but no. I've only lost 14 pounds since my surgery. I'm happy because I'm not gaining lol. Anyway, by all means, consult with your surgeon and do what you feel is best. Good luck!

  5. Mine is for two months. It's supposed to help keep acid down so your pouch and remnant can heal better.
Ya know, whenever someone posts a question, everybody has different recommendations from their surgeons. Doesn't matter whether it's food, medicine, back to work, etc, the answers are ALWAYS all over the map. I mean we are all humans getting the same surgery, but the advice is soooo different. Seems they should have a conference and make up a handbook with consistent advice for us.
I totally agree. It's not even about the US vs Canada. Just the doctors here in the US are so diverse, especially right here in Houston. You would think we should be doing the same things at the same time, but no, we're not. Totally weird.

  6. After your RNY BYPASS how long did your doctor want you to take Opmeprozole?

I'm a sleeve patient and I was provided with Omeprazole the day I was released from the hospital. I have only taken it maybe three times as I have noticed certain foods I have eaten gave me that funny almost heartburn feeling. I was not given any directions from my doctor as to how long I should be on this, and my bariatric doctor's name isn't on the prescription. I don't know who this is smh. Maybe it's his partner he told me about at my 4 week follow up (shrugs).

  7. Thank you, everyone. My biggest fear about revision is that another procedure will not work. I guess my expectation from the lap band was that it would help me feel fuller, longer, but it didn't. For most of you it sounds like the lap band did the trick and worked even if it was uncomfortable. At best it helped slow me down and I probably ate a bit less than I needed to. But I went from 300 pounds to 270 at my lowest weight so that doesn't seem like a big win to me... I dunno, I guess I'm just afraid I'll do the bypass and find that I don't feel any different than I did before. That's a huge surgery to undertake for a poor outcome [emoji20] I hope someone who had a lap band failure similar to mine is out there and will chime in! But everyone's responses have been helpful so thank you again.

I believe the issue here is the fact that your band is not filled. You have got to get the follow up care in order for it to work. You stated that you had twins and your saline was taken out. Why didn't you have it put back in after six weeks or so from giving birth? After care is the most important part of any wls, especially the band. I had restriction only because I did eat what I was supposed to and when I lost weight and felt I could eat more, I made me an appointment and had myself checked. Sure enough I would need a fill to take up the space from losing weight. Unfortunately 8 1/2 years later, I began having problems with it. It slipped, I lost restriction, gained almost all of the weight I lost, and now I'm sleeved. I don't get stuck anymore thank God. I still have restriction after I eat. What has changed for me is my taste buds. I can't eat or drink anything with a lot of sugar and I AM SOOOO HAPPY [emoji846]. Sugar was my addiction/problem and since I've been sleeved for almost two months now, I don't have that problem anymore. My suggestion is to get a fill so that you can get back on track. If you're mind is absolutely made up on having revision surgery, then good luck to you and best wishes.

  8. Some people actually weigh in heavier a week post op, so it is actually pretty good that you lost some. You gotta give this more time. There is soooooo much tissue swelling and internal Fluid retention that you can't see. Those little lap sites are nothing compared to what went on underneath. If you broke your wrist, think of how swollen your arm would be for quite a while. Anytime tissue is injured it swells. Your surgery was a major insult to the tissues and they will react. It probably takes a good 8 weeks for all the swelling and inflammation to completely resolve, which is why you have to be on liquids and purees for so long. You don't want to put any strain on the sutures or staple lines. Hang in there! There is nothing wrong. The weight will come off - it just takes time for things to settle down.
Thanks for that explanation. My surgery date is November 18th, and I'm reading posts to see what I need to know postop. Thanks.

My surgery date is also November 18th, but I only have four days to prep before surgery. You're doing great. Keep up the good work.

  10. Update: My surgery has been moved up a week. It's going to be on November 18th. I just hope I can last that long. Having this band still in me is MISERABLE to say the least. I've been really sick these past few days just laying in bed. I finally felt pretty good yesterday and woke up this morning like I wanted to puke every where. I even was in the beginning stages of having a Migraine. I don't know what's the deal with this crazy body of mine.

  11. Me too. Though I don't have to use it as much when I use the greens in my shakes.< a href="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/monthly_2019_10/637400955_Screenshot_20191019-120243_Amazon20Shopping.jpeg.916aab7170df92abedb0d786b2188324.jpeg" data-fileid="95633" rel="">172072376_Screenshot_20191019-120243_Amazon20Shopping.thumb.jpeg.8e8914388aee4b0b11db1cb3e6f38259.jpeg

Wow! Thank you. I'm using a gentle laxative plus I've been eating some Fiber Cookies every morning. They're pretty good. Not too sweet and 100 calories. [emoji846]
