  1. Okay, so I have been having problems "going" #2. Can't pass gas, not having gas pains from surgery oddly enough. This is day 2 post-op and I drank some metamucil a bit too fast. It got stuck and I PB'd twice and am still having problems. Can't take my pain meds, what should I do? Will the esophagus do it's muscle magic and break it up?
  2. Stupid pain pill got stuck this morning and made it very uncomfortable to even down water. Went to True Results and got 1cc taken out. So now I am at 3cc. They told me that with the hernia repair it is normal for patients to come in for a slight unfill. I also had a mucus production going on which is a sign of an over full band because the esophagus is trying to protect itself from what it thinks might be stomach acid. The unfill brought immediate relief!

    Help

Yes, PB is what happens after stuck. When you make it come back up.

    Help

Do what you feel is ok, your band will let you know if you over do it.
  5. Your sister is absolutely correct, and you will be experiencing food in a completely different way. You are lucky to have a wonderful person like her on your side!! You will do great, the surgery will be over before you know it.

    Help

A PB is productive burping. Not really vomiting because the food never makes it into the stomach, just kinda sits above the band. It will happen if you don't chew your food completely or wait a minute between swallows. It is a form of regurgitation and not comfortable at all. As for the hunger, have you been drinking Water and the Protein Shakes? Sip sip sip.... Not too fast!
  7. I would go out of town and stay in a hotel where no one knows where I am!! That has to be the hardest thing, not eating at family gatherings. Good luck on that!

    Help

You would have felt it if anything got stuck. You are lucky you didn't get into a PB episode. It is very uncomfortable and being new at this, it freaked me out pretty good. Just remember that it's not ok to do this anymore. You need to follow your Dr's instructions to a "T" in order to heal properly. I don't say this to give a guilt trip, just to instill the importance of your Dr's instructions. Your kids will understand that you need to heal. If they don't now, they will when they see you PB for the first time.
  9. I am at the end of post-op day 2. Not too much pain, still taking pain meds though. Discomfort around the port site. No nausea. Able to get more than 48 oz Water in, but only 2 8oz Protein shakes in. I learned a hard lesson today. Do not under any circumstances use metamucil. I took too big of a drink and it got stuck. It pretty much ruined my day... Lol

    Surgery Scheduled for March

Mint tea is great, especially if you are nauseated. Natural remedy.

    March 21, 2013 Banding

The Dr. gave me pics of the band and my hernia.. Lol Kinda cool to have a souvenir besides the scars. BTW, don't use metamucil! I did today and had nothing but trouble all day, it got stuck.

No, they can't really tell if you have a hiatial hernia until they are placing the band. It is a high chance you have one if you have chronic heartburn.

    Is it normal...

if you go too fast you will feel it in the band area. I am on day 2 post-op and still have swelling from surgery, so my opening is pretty tight still. It takes me about 1-2 hours to sip down a 16.9 oz bottle. The 8 oz Protein Shake takes about 30 minutes if I work at it, but I feel it if I take too bug of a swallow. We were never given instructions of how fast we should or shouldn't drink. Mainly I guess to be able to learn to listen to the band.
  14. All better now, SLOWLY sipping my Protein Shake now. It's making it's way through the opening. Do you guys get hiccups as an onset symptom of PB?
  15. I am so happy that things worked out for you guys! I hope this is all water under the bridge ASAP with me and the HR dept.
  16. Most definitely! It was very uncomfortable. How long generally do you feel the irritation from a PB? I am going on a few hours, but then again it was my first one, hopefully I can prevent future ones.

    I made it :)

That 14 day pre-op diet was rough!! I am now day 2 post-op and feel pretty good. Minimal gas and incision pain. Port site is sensitive but tolerable. You will do great!!

    MFP question;)

I use the MFP app on my phone and scan the bar code, it usually comes up with everything I scan.
  19. Your Dr. is smart and I should have asked mine before trying this stuff since it isn't on the list. Live and learn I guess.
  20. The fiber swells up when it is mixed into water. It kinda looks like tapioca in water. Think sticky gel like building blocks.
  21. It's been about an hour and I just took my pain meds. It stayed down so I guess my esophagus did it's job and the metamucil will be put on hold for a while.... Screw that stuff... Iol That was not an experience I wanted to go thru this early. I had a call from the nurse at the surgery center like 10 minutes before this started, at that time everything was great... Hahaha
  22. I just made the same horrible mistake! I drank it too fast and I PB'd twice and still feel stuck. Any words of advice on how to get this to pass? Feels like the fiber "expanded" in the pouch and plugged the hole. I am hoping my esophagus does it's muscle magic and gets it to pass.
