    I am Freezing!!!!

After my wife had the surgery she said she was always cold, even more than her "normal" level of being cold. I thought she was flippin crazy! I have always been a very warm natured person. Wearing shorts all the time if it was 40 degrees or higher out. Now that I have had the surgery, it's ridiculous. If the temp in the house gets below 74 degrees I can't take it. The other day I was at work (non-climate controlled hangar) it was like 60 degrees outside and in the low 70's in. My nose felt like it was going to fall off!! My nose, fingers, and feet all suffer now. I do attribute it to the low/no carb diet and lower calorie intake. I remember eating me of those huge meals before having the surgery, as soon as I started digestion I felt like I was a furnace! Sometimes I even got a sweat out of it. Now I compensate by drinking hot tea, broth, or coffee. Good socks can be your best friend... Lol

    Got stuck

The stuck feeling will go away pretty soon for me, but if there is still something in there... Walking really helps to get it moving, if that doesn't work I will drink Water. It will either flush out or come up. Drinking water will let you know if anything is stuck because you can feel your esophagus fill with water. The feeling is really dependant on you and how irritated your upper banded area is.

    Got stuck

Chewing isn't a timing thing, it's more of a consistency thing. It's got to be like mush before you even think about swallowing that bite. Then it's timing minute before swallowing the next bite. If you follow the rules you won't get stuck unless you find a food you can't tolerate at all.
  4. Ok, I was banded on March 20th. I had a hiatal hernia repair as well. I got over the gas pains and just in the past few days I have experienced some crazy pain in my left shoulder. It also happens when I take a deep breath. I hope it goes away, if not I will talk to the doctor.

what is a "normal" amount of food?

That's ridiculous! Why would he remove all your fluid if all you needed was a slight adjustment? The only reason you should have a complete fluid removal is I you have gastric complications or you get pregnant. If I were you, I would be calling that office until you talk to your doctor and have a good conversation about this. Being in a hurry is one thing, but not listening like that is unacceptable.

    It hurts....

I have been taking gas-x every day and using a heat pad too. I walk LOTS at work, it's like walking down the street 3 houses to make it to the bathroom... Lol Could it be related to the hernia repair?

    Fill Appt.

Things are working! That's great! Success in little steps!
  8. I was banded on March 20th, had a few problems with getting simple foods and meds down. I originally had 4cc at surgery, had 1cc removed to help with taking meds, and 2cc more removed to let my hiatal hernia heal better. So I am down to 1cc and am hungry to the point of insanity at 3.5 hours. I want to try the every 2 hours thing. What are some quick and easy protein rich, low carb/sugar solutions? I have a 10 minute break every 2 hours so the timing is right.

    Self pay question

6 nut/fill appointments comes out to $260 for uninsured patients(I think it includes barium too). This is at True Results San Antonio, I don't know if it is different pricing for people that got the band elsewhere, but I can't imagine going anywhere else.... The office staff, nurses, nutritionalist all take such great care of you.

Your situation sounds more than just a tight band in the mornings. You should talk with your doctor about everything you just mentioned including how often you get hungry as well. I'm pretty sure you will need a minor adjustment. You sound like you are on the tighter side of the green zone. I'm pretty sure things will get better for you.

    Very surprising NSV today!!

Dan, I believe you can do it, just stick to the rule book! Maintenance is a different story, we will tackle that when we get there.

I have always wanted to do that! Great job!
  13. If you're still freaking out in the morning, talk to your pre-op nurse. They deal with freaked out pre-op patients regularly, maybe they can calm your nerves. I know mine did. It was my first abdominal surgery and I really didn't know what to expect, but have faith in your surgeon. They have training and experience. Focus on the fact that you are choosing life over obesity. Healthy life! Keep us updated!

    Bruising after surgery

My wife had some bruises like that post-op too. In fact, she was pissed that I didn't even bruise... Lol, the only bruise I had was on my hand from the IV. Vein kept rolling, took 3 tries. I am going to say the bruising is all dependant on if you easily bruise to begin with.
  15. Gummy vitamins and calcium are easiest to get down, make sure to chew it well.

Had a rough time eating today

Dime to nickel size bites and chewing to mush before swallowing is key. Some foods kinda reconstitute into a good stopper for your stomach opening. Waiting at least a minute between bites is crucial as well. My NUT explained that it is good practice to cut your food into 20-30 right size bites before starting and put your fork down between bites. Other than that, it is always good to talk with your doctor about anything that is going on, including, allergies or cold and flu, emotional times(crying can produce a mucus problem like when sick), calorie intake, types of food, exercise, and episodes like you just experienced.
  17. You are right on track, you are tired because your calorie intake has dropped dramatically. It will get better. Way better.

    Protein shakes

I am going to get some isopure zero carb and try it. It dissolves into the water, not chunky or gritty and comes in a good variety of flavors. I need to get my protein intake up. It would be perfect for tight band mornings.

    Gas and eating

My wife had the surgery over a year ago and still has conversations with her stomach... Lol sometimes it's more like an argument!

1cup of food? Seems like a lot?

Search on YouTube for "Lapband fill flouro" . You can see how the Fluid travels past the band in these videos and how crucial it is to completely chew your food too.
