  1. From what I understand, they don't fill the band, but they do put a small amount of saline in initially. Not really enough for restriction, but they do put some. I agree that you may be very swollen, but your doctor is the best place to go when you're having issues. I was banded 12 days ago, and though there isn't much pain associated with drinking (unless I take too big a sip or too many sips), I do get the gurgling. I'm wondering if this is going to be the new me; sound effects when I drink :-)
  2. Thanks everyone.....I SO appreciate it! I did a lot of walking today, and it's much better. Tomorrow is day 11, so it sounds like it should be gone for good in the next 2-3 days. Karen - yesterday it was so bad that I took a swig off the liquid vicodin bottle - LOL! It actually helped, until it wore off
  3. Wow, what I nightmare. So sorry you had to go through that. I would be nervous as well. That is a lot to go through, and I hope that you don't have a repeat episode.
  4. I understand how you feel. I would be totally pissed, and it's disconcerting that your surgeon brushed it off as nothing. Is there more than one surgeon in the group you mention?
  5. Thanks so much for the in depth explanation. Makes it easier to understand, and deal with!
  6. How long after surgery did you have it?
  7. I'm 10 days post-op, and though I don't really feel all the initial gas, I'm still getting pretty bad pain in my left shoulder. Is this normal?
  8. Fabulous! I know how you must feel!! Enjoy every waking moment
  9. OMG - I'm so ready for mushies, I don't CARE if my weight loss stalls!! LOL Tomorrow is my day, and some cottage cheese is looking like a T-bone steak!!! My suggestion is to not weigh every day. It's not accurate, and if your moods fluctuate based on what the scale says from day to day, DON'T do it! Why put yourself through that? You're following a pretty strict program, and the weight can do nothing but come off. When you think about all the heavy eating prior to surgery, did the scale reflect the gain on a daily basis? Probably not; mine didn't. There were times when I couldn't believe that I didn't gain, based on the heavy caloric load in any given few days. Then a week later, I'd eat a celery stick & gain 4 pounds from the week prior. It works both ways, but so much more difficult to deal with on the way down; SO much more effort than eating what we want, when we want it. Lighten up on yourself......It's ALL good
  10. If there is so much swelling, ice may be better than heat. I was told to use both.
  11. Mine was laproscopic, but I also had gastric plication, he repaired a hiatal hernia, and took out my gallbladder. It's hard to know what's causing what, but the pain from sitting to standing is where the largest incision is; in and around where the port is. My pain isn't debilitating, it's just....there. I can walk fine, and it's not so bad that it keeps me down. I get tired in the afternoons & rest. But it's better and better each day. If I'm calculating correctly, you will have 11 days to recoup before going back to work? If that's correct, and as long as you do not have a job that requires lifting or being on your feet for hours at a time, you should probably be okay. But I'm basing that on the overall comments I've read in this forum, from lap band only surgeries.
  12. I'm nine days out, and it's still painful to go from sitting to standing. The assorted rest of the pain issues have subsided, but that sit or lay to standing is gripping.
  13. You look Fabulous!
  14. I had a couple of samples of Unjury. They're a little more (don't know how else to explain) buttery tasting. Also pretty good :-)
  15. I love the chocolate truffle. It's the best protein powder I've used. Like drinking chocolate milk!
  16. Maybe you're allergic to Prilosec & need a different acid blocker. No one here can really recommend .....you should call your doctor ASAP.
  17. nectar is my favorite. I use the chocolate powder, and it has absolutely NO Protein like taste or after taste. More like drinking chocolate milk. The other one I like is the ready made Premier Protein shakes. I get them at costco on the west coast, but you can Google them & see where they're sold near you. Here are a couple of links to the two products: http://www.vitacost.com/syntrax-nectar-whey-protein-isolate-powder-chocolate-truffle http://premierprotein.com/category/shakes/ GOOD LUCK!
  18. Good luck - see you on the other side
  19. There is a product called Joint Juice, and people swear by it. It comes in liquid and powder. Here is a link to Walmart's website...they carry it. But so do a LOT of other places. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Joint-Juice-Citrus-Natural-Flavor-Easy-Shot-Supplement-20-oz/16608785?findingMethod=rr
  20. You went through a LOT more just having the surgery!
  21. What are the rules of lifting after this surgery? I don't believe they covered that in all of my classes. Just carrying in grocery bags from the market can be a tremendous amount of weight, unless they're taken in one by one. I don't want to create any issues, and would like to know the protocol.
  22. Congrats on getting through what's typically an "eating" holiday. Bravo! And God bless your nephew for his service to our country. I see why you're so proud
  23. I'm sure one of the seasoned veterans can respond better, but my thinking is that hard boiled eggs are REALLY dry. Possibly some of it is stuck, even though some came up.
  24. I emailed my doctor last night (he makes himself available to his patients with questions or concerns). I asked him if the liquids were all about making sure that I don't get sick or nauseated, or if it was all about healing. Here is his response...... "It's all a healing issue. The original period of liquids was four weeks. Some programs still use it. We cut ours down to ten days of liquids. There are lots of things that can go wrong with an operation. And many of those things are triggered by patients jumping ahead of the schedule believing that its ok. I can't tell you how many patients have jumped ahead and had problems. Please stick with the liquids until Thursday then you can advance to mushy foods. You only have to do this once"
