  1. I had a port revision and my doctor put me on clear liquids for 48 hours.

    coffee?

I never gave up my coffee even pre op. I told my doctor and he was fine with it.

    Alcohol

I enjoy a dirty gin martini about 2 times a month with 3 bleu cheese stuffed olives. I sip and savor it over a couple of hours. No problems whatsoever!
  4. I'm banded as of 12/28/12. I've lost close to 70 lbs post banded. My daughter opted for the sleeve. She is losing faster than I am but stomach cancer runs on her late father's side. If it were me I would have opted for the band but it is tedious to keep getting small fills. I have an extremely conservative doctor with fills and I have finally hit the green zone. Most doctors aren't as conservative as mine was but I'm glad I did it nice and slow. My daughter has a problem with slider foods (like potato chips) and she gained on her first weigh in post op. She still eats everything but a lot less. She's looking good but I still worry about her and the sleeve considering the family history. Like you said, the band is reversible, the sleeve is not so it's entirely up to you. Good luck!
  5. Being disabled myself I appreciate what you went through. I am 100% disabled and I'm giving a hard time sometimes. I mean I can walk with a cane but I've had 2 strokes, 2 brain surgeries and have no equilibrium. I feel your letter was very polite, I think a little too polite. I empathize with you and wish you well!

    Starting Over...UGH!

my heart goes out to you and I'm praying all goes well.Stress is very hard on lapbands. I have slowed down on weight loss as well because of stress in my life right now. I was banded on 12/23/12 (crazy I know but Christmas was to be my challenge ). I have a support group that will resume in September as I will be away. This is a challenge for me as I will miss two fill appointments. I pray I don't gain weight but without a support group I'm on my own. I recommend you try to find a local support group and perhaps that will relieve some of your stress. I pray they find a solution for your husband as well. God bless.

    Surgery tom

    Congratulations! Keep us posted!
  8. If you're only taking in 300 calories a day your body is going into starvation mode which shocks the body. Your body is hanging onto every calorie instead of burning it off. You're going to have to increase your calorie intake probably to about 1000 calories a day . Speak to your surgeon or nutritionist or a registered dietician . Your body is craving for nutrition. Good luck on your journey !

    Fill issues?

Definitely sounds like a port flip it happened to me after being 5 months banded. It's an easy fix with a day surgery. I went in the early morning and was able to be discharged 6 hours later. No more problems with my port. I was banded 12/10/12 and my flipped port was fixed 5/10/13. So I have not had a single problem since then! Best of luck to you!
  11. Pretty Thick 1:, Your post should be REQUIRED reading for anyone considering the band! Your "pearl or" is a real gem and it about sums it up for most of us! Let's face it, we bandsters have a love/hate relationship and if we stick with it we're going to love our band more than hate it. Thanks for such a great post!
  12. well, maybe I'm an anomaly but I sure have not bottomed out yet. I was banded 12/10/12 and I've hit a plateau. I have a personal go but would be extremely ecstatic to be below my personal goal.I still have an appetite and would love to not have an appetite. I just want to eat to live not live to eat and I'm pretty sure I'm doing OK and will strive to stay on this journey forever.
  13. No NSV is silly! Congratulations!
  14. you give me hope because I have been on a plateau for several months. I 'm hanging in there though and refuse to give up!

    pre-vacation NSV

    awesome NSV!
  16. What an inspiration. You give me hope that I may reach my goal!
  17. I will be in San Antonio the entire month of July. I will be staying off Thousand Oaks (I think off a street called Perrin Beitel?) the house I'm staying at is on Shallow Water Street. I know it's near an HEB. Anyhow, would love to hear from you folks in SA. Is there a support group nearby. I have no transportation. I believe there is a bus nearby. Please e-mail if there is a support group in that area of SA. Dawalsh2@aol.com

    Waist trainers

Does not sound healthy to me at all.
  20. So sorry for your loss, I wish you well.
  21. I would love, love, love to be lower than my goal weight! However, after losing quite a bit of weight and going from a size 24-26 to a size 16-18 I can't get under 200 lbs. I've increased my activity, lowered my calorie intake by 200 calories a day and it's driving me insane! My goal weight is 160 but wanted to go below my goal to 145. My PCP would be happy if I was 180 but I wouldn't. I weighed 178 when I got married 43 years ago (I've been widowed for awhile) but I would be so happy to be under my goal.

    Very disappointed!

It's your choice not theirs! Don't let any negativity stop you from doing something positive for yourself! This has been the hardest journey I have ever been on and I'm 18 months post surgery. I don't care what people think because I know what I'm doing is for a better me!
  23. Usually the gall bladder is on the right and your spleen could be on the left. Have you had your appendix out? I had my gall bladder and appendix taken out many years ago in an emergency surgery. That's how I know where everything is located. I hope you are feeling better and that little hiccup won't stop you from continuing to be a success on your journey, good luck!

Torn on getting my band removed

my goodness, I hope all works out for you. I 'm an example of a slow loser. Before I decided on the band my weight got up to 289. I was too embarrassed to see a doctor at that weight so pre-op I was 267. In mid December 2012 I had my lapband surgery. I thought by now I would be under 200 lbs. it hasn't happened yet. I keep playing with the same 5 lbs. I have faithfully gone for a fill every month and I can say that this is the first time I'm actually feeling restriction. My doctor believes in losing slowly and he is very conservative with his fills. Anyway, I think I'm doing everything right and for the first time since my first fill I am skipping the whole month of July for a fill. I'm hoping that I lose during the month of July and perhaps I can get filled less often. Good luck on your surgery in July :-)
