I have similar feelings. After having lost 57 pounds since Jan all I can see is my new turkey neck, bat wing arms, saggy stomach, and jelly thighs. I am ecstatic about the weight loss but still have 43 pounds to go and hard to picture what these areas will look like then. I never realized how much gravity can affect us. I am already saving to take care of these side effects . The good is that I have had a lot of NSV's. Can now take a bath without getting stuck getting out, I can sit in a chair with arms, my clothes are all falling off, I have a lot more energy, can walk up my stairs without getting winded, the list goes on.

I am about 5 weeks post op and can sleep on both sides but my port area, front and back, hurts when I sit up straight for more than a few minutes or bend over . I'm fine when I'm laying down but if course can't lay down all if the time. I still have a lot if gas pain from there to my left shoulder too. Will be glad when this all passes! On the plus side I have gone down two full sizes in my jeans!!!! Excited about that ! My first fill will be June 7 . Really apprehensive about possible pain but looking forward to the results.

One day and then cometh the band... Getting excited. Waiting for call tomorrow to see what time on Thursday. Pre op diet not as bad as I thought. Down 15, good start. Plenty to go. Bring it!!! Good luck to all May banders.

May be both would be good. Seriously the amount of posts daily from new banders dealing with frustration of the scale not moving right away is unreal. Short term and long term expectations would be a great addition.

It's very normal to have pain at the site of your port. I noticed after my surgery that I could not lay on the side that my port was located. Today is actually my 6month Surgiversary, and I can do squats, situps, you name it,I can do it. So take one day at a time, and enjoy the journey.

I had a tough time in the first week. Hang in there...I lost 14 lbs on the prep diet. It was so worth it!! The second week was much easier and I definitely didn't feel as hungry. You can do it!! I've lost 21 lbs already and was banded on tuesday.

The recipes will be awesome!!! I'm looking forward to the new book. Might also be a good idea to include some updated information...
    1) its okay to sip Water while your eating...as long as your not washing your food down with it.
    2) a picture of the size of plate you should be using with the sample sizes of Protein, carbs, and veggies.
    3) some exercises that are healthy and safe depending on your weight.
The Big Book on the Lapband was fantastic...I'm sure this one will be just as good no matter what.

Thanks for the input everyone. I appreciate your (mostly lol) kind words. I finally got my primary doc to call in a liquid script for my Prozac. He was supposed to do it before and kept not doing, and I ended up being off it for a week. So I'm sure my roller coaster emotions are due in part to that. I really want this to work for me. I'll just be so glad when I can finally start getting fills so that I don't get so distracted by the hunger. It's so much harder for me to make good decisions when my stomach is growling. And on that note, I think I'll go grab a Protein shake!

UGH, I am 2 weeks out from surgery, and I DO get hungry. Usually about 2 1/2-3 hours after I ate last. I am on liquids still though. So, I usually have some Jello, or popsicle. Can't WAIT for tomorrow's Dr appt when I can be moved on to mushy foods!
Today is 4 weeks since I began this whole process, 2 weeks pre op I lost 20 pounds...2 weeks post op, I lost 15 pounds for a grand total of 35!! Oh yeah, I'm still a bit ummm, fat, but I do feel good just losing that!

You don't mention if you are hungry? You state you've changed your eating habits. How much are you eating? (calories/protein)?
Great job on hitting that gym 6 days a week! Thats gonna pay off big time.
As far as Protein, if I tried to have a 54G Protein Drink all at once, I'd be sick to my stomach...about 35g is MAX for me at once. I'd suggest IF you are gonna use liquid Protein, to start at a small amount, maybe 20g max and work up as tolerated.
    Best of luck!

Sounds GREAT to me! You have a doctor that fills with FLUORO. CONGRATS! You are losing weight, eating the right amount of protein....AND, you didn't mention HUNGER once in your post...YEA for you! The # of cc's really doesn't matter....it's what they do and how you feel that matters. What could possibly be wrong....look at your ticker! AMAZING. Best of luck for your continued success.

No, I'm not hungry at all, really, yet. I do have moments where my head wishes I could have some pizza or bbq chicken - I do find seeing and smelling food hard, but it isn't coming from true hunger - more a desire to taste something good. I'm sure that true hunger will come, however, so I plan on getting a fill early as my dr. suggested if possible.

All great ideas so far. I would include a section on weight maintainance for sure. That is a struggle for so many obese people. I know for me, all my life my weight has been up and down. I am either gaining or loosing. Regain is a serious issue, help with that would be great.

Definitely recipes - I second Leanne on that. I also second Kris150 on including psychological issues that arise. This has been a big part of the journey for me, and I wasn't necessarily that prepared for some of the strange and powerful emotions that came up. A journal section might be a good idea as well - possibly with motivational sayings or ideas to focus one's writing.

    Hi Alex
I think you should have a chapter on "head" issues (psychology) and how to fight/win the inner and constant battle of staying with the rules in the long term.
There are a lot of books dealing with the journey up to and just after WLS surgery, but virtually none for "long termers".
There should also be a section on how to get back on track if you fall off - that's a popular and frequent topic amongst "oldies".
Good luck and keep us updated - I'm certainly interested in a helpful book for long term WLS patients.

I've released The BIG Book on the Gastric Sleeve and The BIG Book on the Lap-Band and releasing The BIG Book on the Gastric Bypass in a few weeks (a trilogy!)
I'm working on a fourth book targeted towards individuals that are post weight loss surgery.
Some of the topics I'm planning to include:
    patient stories
    patient tips
    recipes
    meal plans
    specific food tips
    famous people with WLS

Please let me know if there are other topics you think might interest individuals that are post weight loss surgery.
