Can anyone tell me what your pre op diet is and for how long? I want to do one but I asked surgeon twice and he didn't give me one.
  4. Good for you! Well said. My hubs is not really supportive but I'm doing this for me.

    Frustrated

I have gastritis and gallstones as well. Sounds like a gallbladder attack. Mine will be taken out when I get my sleeve
  6. Hello my fellow May sleevers! I don't think I have introduced myself yet. I'm in Detroit, Michigan and I am a band to sleeve revision. I was initially scheduled for a gastric bypass in March but I chickened out the week of surgery. My sleeve date is May 16th! I feel so much better about this decision. My docs office was a bit irritated with me but I have to do what is right for me! I have had my crap band for five years with little weight loss and I have been taking off and putting back on the same twenty pounds for the last six months. I'm just sick of it and I need to do something different. I've been trying to get myself ready so months ago I quit soda, carbonation, and caffeine. I also gave up alcohol almost completely (never thought I'd be able to do that). I've also learned to love yogurt which, until two weeks ago I could not stand! I made a list of what I will need and posted in a thread. I purchased my Vitamins, belly band, ear plugs, and eye mask for the hospital today. My goal is to get to the gym everyday until surgery so that I go in in the best shape possible. My doc does not require a liquid diet but I would really like to try to do one for a couple of weeks prior. I figure there can't be any harm in trying to keep my liver out of the docs way! My surgery will include gallbladder removal, band removal, hernia repair (caused by the crap band), and my revision to a sleeve so I am anticipating being in a world of hurt or as the coordinator at the surgeons office put it a "hot mess"! She has assured me they will get me through it. I look forward to sharing this experience with all of you and wish you the best of luck!

Ever feel all cute.. And then...

I am so sorry this happened to you. We have all had those moments. About a year ago a little girl at a birthday party whose mother I know (and who happens to be a former model turned yoga instructor, ugh) started following me around saying "Do you know you look just like a princess?" "That's sweet" I said. She went on "Do you know who princess Fiona is?" I didn't in that moment so I said "no". I noticed that her mother kept telling her to be quiet and usher her away. But she finally got it out. "Princess Fiona from Shrek! You know who she is!" I was so embarrased. I know she didn't mean anything by it but still, it hurt. I am the same way. When I had kids I decided that my weight was the result of my poor choices and they would not suffer having a mom who didn't do things with them. So I zip-line, ride roller coasters, and yes put on my swimsuit and go to the beach, pool, or waterpark. It helps that I live in Michigan because there are a lot of overweight people walking around right along with me . But, I always get the snide remarks. A couple of years ago I took them to Mexico and I think the guys just about fell out with laughter when I hauled my big ass up on a horse to ride on the beach with my kids! People are so rude but it is their shortcoming not ours. We're fixing our bodies but they will be likely be flawed in spirit forever.

    Any May Sleevers?

Hi. I'm not going to Mexico but I am May 16! Band to sleeve revision.
  9. Hello everyone. I'm a band to sleeve revision scheduled for May 16th! Getting here has been a long and often miserable road. I am so excited to be beginning this new journey. I really messed up by not being prepared when I had my band put in and that is not going to happen again. So, I spent some time today compiling of list of things to get in the next month. It's suited to my tast so there is no pudding and only vanilla flavors (no chocolate or strawberry). Also, everything is pre-packaged (making it more expensive) because I have two kids who keep me extremely busy and a husband who works all the time. I quit drinking carbonated beverages and caffeine a couple of months ago and gave up alcohol (almost completely ) in January. I never though I would be able to do that (of course I am really fightin replacing with eating)! Anyway, just in case this may help someone here it is: For Day of Surgery Ear plugs Eye mask Chapstick Warm blanket Ear buds for TV Gas X (couple of different forms) Slippers or Socks Belly Binder Nightgown Belly bear or pillow Phone charger Milk of Magnesia For Weeks 1 and 2 May 16th – May 31st 21 Carnation Instant Breakfast Vanilla (Pre-made) 28 Fat free or low fat cream Soups (strained before eating)(see list at end) 28 No sugar added Greek Yogurts 3 Cartons chicken broth 3 Cartons beef broth 1 Carton skim milk 14 Jello snack cups 6 Cans crushed pineapples in Water or light syrup (for smoothies) 7 Bananas (for smoothies) 1 Carton OJ (for smoothies) 6 Mangos for smoothies For Weeks 3 and 4 June 1st – June 14th 1 Large box of quick Quaker Oats 14 Fat free cream soups (see list at end) 21 No sugar added Greek Yogurts 14 HMR or Healthy Choice etc. frozen dinners (to put in blender) 1 Spinach (to put in blender w/ frozen meals) 1 Broccoli to put in blender (to put in blender w/ frozen meals) 1 Box of instant mashed potatoes 14 Prepackaged snack cups of unsweetened apple sauce 4 Cans of chicken for chicken salad 1 Jar of Hellman’s low fat mayo Vitamins and supplements Mulit-Vitamin – Bariatric Advantage Convenient Daily Packs (30 day supply) Biotin – Nature’s Bounty 5,000 iu Protein – unjury unflavored, Unjury strawberry sorbet, and Unjury chicken Soup Vitamin D – highest dosage (I'm African -American (so my Vit D is always low) but with enough other stuff mixed in that my mom has osteporosis. Go Figure!) I also already have every heartburn medicine (both OTC and prescription) at home but if you do not probably good to have it on hand. Tylenol - liquid or chewables if I can find them. I get migraines so I am sure one will hit me. Cream soups may include from Campbell’s Brand – FF Cream of Celery, FF Cream of Chicken, FF Cream of Mushroom, FF Broccoli cheese, Healthy Request Cheddar Cheese Soup, Cream of Potato Soup (sparingly)

Glad to hear someone with a hernia repair doing well. I've been told by others that will be the worst part of recovery for me. Thanks to my lap band I'll be having one repaired too.

    Manners Matter...

telling someone to suck it up and do what they need to do is completely different. That is a form of support and that is different than putting someone down.

    Band :-(

Hey! I'll be a revision too on May 16! Doc did I have esophogitis from band which could turn into cancer if not addressed. Looking forward to getting my sleeve!
  13. Hey all. A post from another sleever got me interested in this. Magnetic rings being used to treat acid reflux. I'm still pre op but severe reflux was a problem for me with my band so I'm looking. Just google "magnets offer reflux relief"

    Bile Reflux/Heartburn

I just googled "magnets offer reflux relief" and a lot of info came up.

    African American Sleevers

Hello everyone. New here but I'm a band revision who was having bypass but canceled the day of surgery and am now having sleeve on May 16 so I've been on all these boards! Look forward to talking more with all of you!
  16. Fixerupper

    Bile Reflux/Heartburn

Somewhere on these boards there is a sleever taking about a doctor using a ring of magnets I think around the esophogus which allowed things to go down but keeps the avoid and bike from coming back up. This was as an alternative to full bypass.
  17. Hi. I'm hoping to her from some post op folks at least a few years out about the condition of your teeth. I have been reading about many people losing their teeth and it's starting to freak me out. Please chime in and tell me how you're doing. If you're having teeth issues would you still do the surgery again? Thanks.

    teeth problems tooth decay

Glad you came through the surgery well. How your pain is getting better.

    teeth problems tooth decay

Thank you all for responding. Once I saw a few comments to that effect I did google it and it seemed like it before an issue further out. Of course the problem is that people further out who are doing great probably wouldn't be posting as much anymore so I think the picture you could get from Google could be skewed. That's why I wanted to check with people here before overreacting.

    March Surgery Dates

Thanks for asking. I did get scared but I didn't cancel. Doc wants me to come on in two weeks and talk to him about my hernia repair while he's in there.

    March Surgery Dates

Hey all. My surgery was cancelled today (mostly my fault). It was supposed to be tomorrow. They are going to reschedule me but it won't be this month. I'll still be stoppijng by to visit and check on all of you. Good luck to everyone with your surgeries and recovery.

Help please. Is my band to tight?

Hi. I am getting ready for replacement or revision due to being left overfilled for several years. At this point I am completely unfilled in order to settle things down but the daily throwing up (not full vomiting but more than just PB) really took a toll on my stomach, esophogous, and nutrient levels. I'm just chiming in to wish you luck in getting this resolved and urge you not to wait too long like I did because other problems will result. Be persistent about someone figuring out what the cause is and listening to you. I have been unfilled now for a month and have maintained with just a three pound weight gain. It is worth it to feel like a normal person again and I am looking forward to moving forward this Thursday with a replacement band or revsion.

    Changed my surgery date :(

I go up and down too. In the last five years I have been between 270 and 170 multiple times and that's not healthy.
