  1. I was sleeved on Tuesday (9/10) and so far the worst thing for me is fixing meals for my family. I haven't lost any of my hunger or cravings since surgery which makes things worse (I am taking Prilosec). I'm getting my fluids and protein in but want so badly to eat with my family. My 10 year old understands but my 4 year old doesn't and is always offering me her food because I'm not eating. **Sigh** I know that in a month or two I'll be able to seem more normal but dang why does it have to be so hard right now.
  2. Day 3 and I can say I still fell really good. I have had some discomfort but nothing I can't handle. I've been sipping, sipping, sipping and walking, walking, walking. I have used my liquid Vicodin the past couple nights just to help sleep and not for pain but I'm not going to use it tonight and see how it goes. It takes me about 2 hours to get down an 11oz protein shake but I can do it. I also have a very rumbly tummy so I'll be happy when that settles down a bit. All in all everything is going good and I'm excited to be on this journey. Thank you all for your kind words and support I feel very humble and blessed.
  3. I'm hoping to be at the meeting. My name is Stacy.
  4. I love Dr. Morales and you both are going to be super happy with him. Also all the staff here at DePaul are awesome. Very friendly and caring. It has been a great experience this far. Maybe we'll see each other in support group. I also want to say thank you to everyone that's read this and/or commented. This is a great online support group and you all are awesome.
  5. It was more of discomfort than pain for me. My doctor/surgeon injects long lasting pain medicine at the incision sites. I'm still numb from them and they are suppose to last 3 days. I'm also receiving IV Toradol every 6 hours for 6 doses. I only had true pain once so far and liquid Tylenol helped that and that happened this afternoon. I will definitely keep everyone posted on my progress. I think it's great to hear everyone's stories.
  6. Cupcake It is so worth it. I wanted to share my story for others. It wasn't picture perfect and all roses but I wanted to share for that reason. You 6 month journey will go by quicker than you will ever dream possible. I started mine in January and here I am. Good luck to you and feel free to ask me anything at anytime.
  7. Just thought I'd share my story with all you pre-ops. I arrived at the hospital at 5:45am and got registered. About 6 they called me back and did all the fun pre-op things: changing onto my attractive hospital gown, drawing last minute labs, starting the IV (one stick), and a ton more things. I met with the anesthesiologist and OR nurse and just had to wait for my doctor to arrive. 8:00 I was on my way to the OR, scared but ready. I was asleep within minutes. I don't remember anything after I scooted from the stretcher to the table. I woke up in PACU and was extremely nauseated and in a lot of discomfort. They have me Compazine for the nausea that when it kicked in it took the nausea away completely. I dozed on and off during this time. I did notice it was 11;30 when I first looked at the clock. At noon I was transferred to my room. My husband was waiting for me and all I could say was that I was sorry and wished that I could have been happy being fat (can we say I was having a little buyers remorse and really early). I actually told him that a few times but I had really bad gas discomfort and was still exhausted from the anesthesia. The gas pain was terrible but I knew and the nurses reinforced that walking was the only thing I could do to get rid of it. My body felt heavy and I could barely lift my arms at this point so walking just seemed like a ludicrous idea. My husband left to get my son off the bus and I slept. I forced myself to wake up an hour or so later because my son was coming to see me and I wanted him to see I was okay. Once I woke up I had to pee and of course I am scared to death to get up but I have to. It is something Iust do. I called for help and up I got. Surprise it wasn't bad, my fear was for nothing. I then started doing little trips in the room going to the window or to the bathroom and guess what the has pain got better. It's still not gone and it hurts to lay down but it's tolerable. I have also been sucking on ice chips as much as I can to get my fluids in. It is now 12 hours past my surgery and I no longer have any buyers remorse (for now) and the gas pain I have is in my shoulder and a smidgen in my belly. I did have a hernia he repaired while he was in there or so my husband told me. I just wanted to share my surgical story with everyone. Tomorrow I have a swallow study and I hope to go home. Good luck to everyone on this journey.
  8. These sound good. Will have to try them in a few months when I can eat this type of food again.
  9. We're only allowed to take pills no larger than an aspirin or M&M for the first month after surgery after that we can take regular sized pills.
  10. I started this journey back in January. My original goal was to have surgery in August but life intervened and August became September. September is now here and surgery is 3 days away. I am so ready for this and I know it's the right decision for me but now my nerves are kicking in. No real point to this post just wanted to get this off my chest.
  11. I start my pre-op diet on Tuesday for surgery on the 10th. Sounds like you're doing great I hope I can do just as well. Good luck......keep up the awesome job the 10th will be here before we know it.
  12. I'm from the St. Louis area also. My surgery is Sept. 10. Good luck!!!
  13. My choice was to have my surgery after my vacation. This is why I am having surgery in 2 weeks and not already post-op. I just really wanted to enjoy my vacation without worrying about having to eat differently than my family because I was in a certain stage of my diet. It was well worth it to me to wait that extra month.
  14. You can only buy Quest bars online and at GNC. Sorry you're still having some pain. Hope it gets better soon.
  15. Can you make an appointment with your NUT and drag him with you? I don't think my husband actually got it until the pre-op class we attended together on Wednesday. Although what he is doing is wrong I don't think most people understand our new lifestyle. I think my Mom is going to be my biggest hurdle.
  16. I'm starting my liquid diet on the 3rd so I am planning to make all my favorite meals this week on top of visiting a couple of my favorite restaurants. It's not a food funeral because I'm not going to go overboard and I realize that these foods aren't gone forever. It will be a long time before I ever get to have some of the foods again so I want to enjoy them one last time before I start my journey.
  17. I'm September 10 in St. Louis, MO. I live in IL though.
  18. I'm September 10 also. I just did all my pre-op stuff on Wednesday. Found out my Vitamin D is low enough to put me on prescription strength Vitamin D for the next 8 weeks. I will start my pre-op diet on the 3rd and have all the shake mixes for that but still need to buy some of the approved clear liquids to add to it. Turned in my FMLA stuff to HR today. I haven't shopped for any post op things yet nor have I thought about my hospital bag. Honestly I'll probably do most of that the weekend before. I did get my vitamins ordered so I can have them available the 3rd when I need to start them. Starting to feel excited and very, very nervous.
  19. My instructions were nothing larger than an aspirin or M&M for 4-6 weeks after surgery.
  20. Don't take it back. I think it looks good right now but a few more pounds down and you will rock it even more.
  21. I will have to check them out next time I go to the store. I've got a few weeks to go before surgery but I'm going to try and stock up on a few things before hand. Not much just enough to get me through a couple weeks.
  22. My nutritionist said the Slim Fast high Protein were okay for me to drink because it's about the only one I can tolerate. The carbs and sugars are higher though and a lot don't recommend them for that reason alone. They didn't recommend the Special K but said if that was all you could do then drink them. I think it varies from surgeon to surgeon.
  23. I'm Sept. 10 as well. It's getting closer.
  24. Yay someone else on the 10th with me!!!!
