  1. Heyher you gave some really good advise I need to keep that in mind when I have my surgery next Monday.
  2. I have to agree with you both. I am hoping that at least 6 months after my surgery I can give my cpap machine back to them. I really want off of it.
  3. Laurelgurl, congratulations on your weight loss, I hope I do as well as you have done. I am having my gastric bypass one week from tomorrow and I am scared. I read that you are afraid of losing too much weight and your surgeon is not too concerned at this point. I would take him at his word right now but if you continue weight loss and do not want to drop more weight I might suggest going to a dietition who specializes working with WLS patients. I already have one and she is great, she has become my right arm thru this whole process and I know I will be leaning on her more going forward. Do you have a local support group? Maybe they can help too. Good luck and congratulations again.
  4. Hello, Just wondering if any Baby Boomers are having their surgery this month. I am having mine March 11th.
  5. Hi Gang, I am now 1 week away from my surgery and I am really scared. I keep telling myslef to be positive but I am scared nevertheless. for those of you getting your surgery done this week congratulations and good luck. I need this group more than ever and before you know it all March sleevers will be on the post=op forum. Take care and have a speedy recovery to all this week.
  6. You look wonderful congratulations
  7. Welcome and good luck your surgery will be here before you know it, mine is March 11, 2013. I am so excited
  8. Hello to all, I am new here and I am having my RNY on March 11th which is coming up very shortly. I was never told about gas pain, should I go ahead and get gas-x or what kind should I get. I have been told I will be in the hospitla for an overnight and go home the next afternoon. I am so nervous but I know I need this surgery. Any helpful comments as to what I need for gas will be appreicated. Thank you all again.
  9. Kat, I am knew to this site and saw that you are having some health issuses. I am so sorry to hear this. I will keep you in my prayers and please keep us posted. You are not alone.
  10. I am so happy to have found this forum, for the past 2 years I have been going back and forth sleeve or rny. I have finally decided to have the rny and I will tell you why. I am a border line diabetic with sleep apnea. I sometimes get acid flex during the day and sometimes at night. I also have a serious sweet tooth it is so bad that I know I should stop but I don't. I had to take a tough look at myself and for once in my life be very honest since I do not want to have another surgery down the road. I spoke with my dietition and we had a very serious one on one discussion and I have decided that rny is the way for me to go. RNY will help eleviate me from going into full blown diabetic's and it is a better way to go if you experience acid reflex since the sleeve can make it worse. RNY will also FORCE me to stop the sugar roller coaster I have been on and it will take my craving for all things sugar away, with the sleeve, I will still have cravings for sugar. I really need to get my life back and start enjoying activities with the rest of my family. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. This journey we are on together is also a personal journey and each one of us needs to do what is best for yourself. I know it is scaring to have your insides re-routed ( I'm scared ) but I do not like having 70 to 80% of my stomach cut out either. My surgeon told me the RNY is the gold standard for weight loss surgery that has been around for 25 or more years. The sleeve is newer and there had been great success with the sleeve but they will be collecting data over the next 20 years to have better picture. Which ever surgery you decide is best for you is up to each one of us. Down deep you already know what is best for you. With all my health issues I know RNY is right for me. Good Luck to all.
  11. Hello to all, I am 63 years old and I have having the gastric bypass done March 11th. that is 11 days from now. I am so nervous and excited all at the same time. At a recent local support group meeting there was a man 69 years young who had this surgery 3 weeks ago and is doing great. So, yes there are those of us 60 and over having surgery. I just wished I had this done 5 years ago but I was too afriad and had too many people in my life who would talk me out of it. I have tried so many diets, liquids, high fiber, Weight Watchers, Nutrrasystem, I would lose the weight but nothing worked permanently for me. I need this surgery to stop and reboot my eating habits. Like they say "there is no going back". I had been going back and forth between the sleeve surgery and bypass for more than a year. My surgeon told me that the gastric bypass is the standard surgery for weight loss and has been for over 25 years. The success of weight loss with the bypass is much better than the lapband and results are better than sleeve especially if you have eating issues with sugar. So, here I am and I am so so happy to find a group of people 55 and over who are going to have this surgery. It makes me feel good to know I have some online buddies to go thru this with. I would love to hear back from you and for all of us who are having this surgery this month I wish you well and keep happy thoughts. Just think of all the good times ahead. I know it will be hard but we can get thru this todether. Take care to all, cheryl
  12. Hello to all March Sleevers, Well here we are at the end of February and March is looking straight at us now. I want to wish all the best to those who are going to have their surgery done March thru 10th. I am having my done on March 11th so I am counting on you to give the rest of us some good feedback on your surgery and 1st 2 weeks post op so the rest of us know really what to expect. We are looking forward to hearing back so good luck and keep us posted we are cheering you are to your "New Life".
  13. I am going for my 2nd visit with my surgeon in the morning. I have been on a liver detox diet for almost 9 days now. I see that some of you are already on liquid shakes, I am wondering why I was not put on shakes too. Maybe he will starting tomorrow since my surgery is March 11th. I had to call my family doctor up today, my surgeon's office called to tell me they did not send in all my pre-op test results and a medical clearance letter was not received either. What is really frustrating, I called my family doctor last Wednesday and told them all paperwork and test results needed to be faxed to my surgeon by Last Friday and apparently that did not happen. If my surgeon does not have it all by tomorrow I might have to have my surgery date changed until there is follow thru from my regular doctor. I am so mad right now, it just goes to show you that you need to be pro-active and make double sure there is follow thru from your regular doctor. I will let you know how my visit turns out. It has been a long road to just get here. Fingers crossed!!!
  14. OMG I do hear you. I have the same problem with a friend of mine who is to be my support system. I have decided to keep my distance for a while but that is hard to do when it is your mother. Good Luck.

Congratulations on your 40 pound weight loss. I hope you can see light at the end of the tunnel. I am having my surgery on March 11th and I have seen some folks speaking about depression after sugary. I have decided that 3 weeks post surgery I am going to see my psychologist and may do that for that first 3 or 4 months. Like you I eat went I am under stress, happy or feeling down. Food plays too much in my life and I use food to stuff my feelings so I know I am going to have issues myself. Just hang in there because you are doing great and you are taking care of yourself so try to see all the good you are doing for yourself.

I hope you can give us an update in a few days to see if increasing your protein and water helped. thank you.
  18. March 11th is just around the corner and I really am getting nervous but I do see that most of you March sleevers feel the same way, excited and nervous at the same time. I had a rough weekend, everyone in my family wants toe eat out and this is making me crazy. Even some of my friends get made that I will not go out to eat with them. I just do not want any temptations at this point and even after my surgery. I just need to NOT think about food. I hope my so called support family and friends stop and be the support I need.
  19. Hello to all, I am having my sleeve surgery on March 11th and I am very exicted. I am just checking to see if anyone else in the great state of Florida is also having surgery in March. I live near Sarasota and have lived here for about 3 years. I moved to Florida from Pennsylivania and I am loving the beaches and beautiful weather. I started my pre-op diet 7 days ago and have lost 12 pounds so far. If you are interested in making a connection let me know. Hope to hear from you.
  20. Hello to all March Sleevers, I have been on my pre-op liver detox diet for 7 days now got on the scale this morning and have lost 12 pounds I am so excited but it has been hard. Giving up caffeine has been so hard for me since I am a coffee addict. So many restaurants do not serve Sprite Zero or caffeine free coke or pepsi so I am stuck drinking water ( Iike I should anyway) or unsweetened ice tea (that I hate). I have been reading some of your posts and see that some of you are questioning if you should have this surgery. I to have tried so many high protein low carb diets and have had much success but the weight just does not stay off. I am using this surgery as a TOOL to help me lose the wieght and to keep it off just by having a smaller stomach. I have heard overtime the stomach does stretch and weight can go back up and that it is not unusual to gain about 8 to 10% of your weight. But, the truth I need to drop 140 pounds and if after 3 years post op I again back about 10 to 20 pounds I will still be happy. I hate what I weight now and not being able to keep up with my family is a real depressing thing for me right now. The bottom line is I will never be able to eat like I want to and this surgery will help me keep on track. I wish everyone good luck and lets keep in touch. Supporting each other is going to be everything.
  21. Well, it is getting close 2 weeks to surgery. March 11th will be here before I know it.
  22. I have my surgery on March 11th as of today, I use a cpap machine at night and it has been a little over a year since I started using it. I am so hoping and praying that some point after my surgery I can get rid of the cpap machine. I thank God for it but at the same time I am sick of it. I see lots of people with cpap machines that are not overweight but I am still hoping anyway. Your picture is too funny, I know where you are coming from.
  23. My surgery is scheduled for March 11th, I can not wait to get this done!!!! I live in Sarasota, Florida. Congratulations to all March Sleevers.
  24. Well March sleevers, time is marching on it is already February 11th and I am now 4 weeks away from my surgery March 11. I went to my family doctor this morning and had my blood work completed and on Thursday will be going for my chest x-ray. I will start my pre-op liver detox on Feb 15th so things are moving along. I need to go grocery shopping sometime this week to get all the legal foods in for my detox. I hope everyone else is doing fine today, have a great week.
