    The Boomer Chat Room

Well I over did it today. I went out to dinner and there really was not anything on the menu for me to eat so I checked out the soup and ordered a crock of French Onion. I was so proud of myself but I logged into myfitnesspal and searched for French Onion soup and it was loaded with over 1,000mg of sodium. Well, I will NOT be getting on the scale tomorrow or even the next day. I have been drinking water all night. I will never do that again and especially since I am at a stall. I have really screwed things up for myself. I am just going to bed and try all over again tomorrow. Talk to you all soon.

    Any March Sleevers?

I had my surgery on March 11th. I am having some good days but I still at times feel very tired and slow. My skin and hair are both very dry even though I drink 64oz of water a day. I have to ask for any advise regarding this or am I the only one. As of 2 days ago I was down 48 pounds but today I am up a pound. I just want to get my first 50 pounds off of me. I already had my first stall and I am hoping that I can get another 10 pounds off before the next one happens, this is so frustrating. Can I go to facebook and add myself to the list? Thanks Folks.

Hang in there folks, we have been told about these stalls we would have along the way but when it finally happens to you, it really is a bummer. Two or three week stalls are so emotional for all of us. Thank the good Lord we have each other for support. I have come to the conclusion the CARBS are on my worst enemy list.

    Food Diaries/Logs

I have been using myfitnesspal to keep track of my daily intake. I have been using the website about 2 weeks post op after my March 11th gastric sleeve surgery. At first I thought this was just another ackward website and was going to be a pain in my behind to use. Well, I am now going on 10 weeks post op and I have not missed a day using this website. It has been a God send for me. I keep myself honest all the time since it is my private go to. As I go thru the day I can see what have eaten and how much is left for dinner and a snack. If you can not be honest with yourself than you cannot be honest with anyone and this surgery would have been done for nothing. Being honest with myself is the only way I can keep track of my eating and losing the weight I need to get rid of. I highly suggest this website and it has helped me lose 45 pounds so far. I have to admit I have never been one for writing a daily eating journal but this has really helped me stay focused on myself for a change. There REALY is something to journaling (the experts are so right about and I kept fighting all these years). Myfitness even has a section where you can write about your day, feelings and thoughts. My next re-think is excerising. For some reason I still can not get into a routine, what is wrong with me??? It is such an effort and in the past 4 years everytime I start to walk me knees hurt me so much I just give up. I am just hoping that as I lose more weight maybe my mindset will change. It has to change.

I just had my pap done 8 weeks post op and it came back normal but I am now having other lady issues that are requiring me to have a D&C this month.

    breaking out... bad!

This surgery has taken it toll on my skin too. I have had several breaks outs and now my skin is so dry. I use body lotions and mild soap but I stall have it and now even in toe nails are dry. I drink the 64oz of water each day so I am not sure what to do. I also get very moody, and I get irrated very easily but now I can not eat. I am thinking of seeing a phy to handle some of my issues that have come up. I am not sure how to handle these new emotions since I can not eat my frustration away anymore.

    1 year pics.

I have to say you look GREAT!!! Congratulations
  14. When I am asking if it was worth it, I always say, "My surgery was March 11th so ask me next March 11th and I will be able to give an answer. I always get asked " How much have you lost this week" I hate that since I am trying to concentrate on eating correcting and portion control and let the numbers take care of themselves. It has been 10 weeks post op for me and each month it does get a little better. Our bodies need time to heal and we are all experiencing similar and yet different problems that need to be overcomed with the help of a good nutrionist and surgeon. I have been experiencing hair loss and now I am taking high dose of Biotin for hair, skin and nails. I am just starting my 2nd week on biotin and I am hoping to see a difference in about a month or so. It takes time for this vitamins to kick in.

    OUR STORIES

I am so glad that we have each other to get thru this tough period post op. Coco and Sassy, does your local hospitals offer any kind of pool excerises? If you have not checked it out you should and if by chance they do not maybe somebody at the hopsital can give you a recommendation. I know when I am in Water I always feel free. Does the local united way have anything they can help with? There really should be a solution for both of you. Tom Landry should be notified about this situation, after all a therapist is there to help not have fun. I have been told that the local Shapes workout has a swimming pool and they have lifts to help peope get in and out of the pool who are disabled maybe you can also check there since they have certified trainers at the facillity. I am just frustrated right now and now I have to have a D&C on May 28th. I will keep you guys informed. Where are all the boomers??? Take care Coco and Sassy. Let me know if you find out anything, there has to be a solution.
  16. I think you look wonderful but I also know how you feel. I am only 9 weeks post op and had my friend take a picture of me 46 pounds lighter and all I do is pick myself apart. I am not sure way I am doing this but I am. I am just wondering if I am going to get worse down the road. Are you seeing a therapist ? Maybe I need one.

    Any March Sleevers?

Hello All, I had my WLS on March 11th and I am now down 46 pounds. I need to lose another 140 so I do have a ways to go. Where do I found this group on Facebook since I am on there more than here? Please let me know. Thanks again, Cheryl
  18. Michkey thank you for your point of view; it is so nice to hear from someone who understands where I am coming from. As you already know this is hard enough without co-workers, friends and family always asking questions. We just need to be left alone and be around folks who are very supportive, that is way I love this website. I am happy to hear you are doing so well. Your friend is not going to be successful unless she gets the support that she needs. I have been told that people who have this surgery and join a support group on line or a local support group in your area will lose the weight and keep it off. Support is very important in recover and becoming the new person we want to be. I hope your friend gets a hold of herself and really deals with her eating issues. Maybe she should contact her local hospital to see if there is a local bariatric support group. Like someone somewhere said to me this surgery can fix your stomach but it does not fix your head and what caused our overeating problems. I am like you, I am waiting another 8 weeks so I get more weight off of me and then I am going to look for a job where no one knows about my surgery and make a fresh start. I want co workers to see the new me not the old me. I am just a little discouraged right now since I am at my 1st stall but not enough to go out and eat a donut/donuts. I have come too far and I think you feel the same way. Keep in touch, Cheryl

    OUR STORIES

I love to read everyone's stories too. I know we can all relate to each other in so many ways. I started out with a BMI of 58.8 and 9 weeks post surgery I am now 50.7. I want to congratulate Chris on her success I know this is a hard road ahead of us but it is something we needed to do for ourselves and stop the crazy eating habits. There is no turning back now, we have today to get thru and a future that will be brighter than our past. I am not sure if Chris or Sassy has ever heard of a weight stall. I have heard from the threads about these and I think after losing 45 lbs I have come to my first stall. I have not last any weight this past week and it is so painful to be doing what I am told and the weight has not come off. I have heard that these stalls can last anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks. Do you ladies or anyone else have any ideas on how to break a stall and begin losing again. Thank you, Cheryl
  20. I would do mine all over again if I had too. I am now 9 weeks post op and down 45 pounds. My start weight was 331 lbs so I am very happy. I have heard a lot about stalls on this journey and I think I have just come to my 1st stall. I have weight the same for the past week and I am hearing this can last for 3 weeks. I am not too worried since I am doing everything that I have been told to do but since I still have so much weight to lose this can be a little discouraging. I have people in my life that keep asking me how much you lose this week and frankly I am getting so tired of being asked. It mentally hard on me being asked all the time. I am not sure why people have a need to do this. Maybe they are sincere but sometimes I think they would love for me to fail. It is a litte depressing.

    The Boomer Chat Room

Good to hear back from you Southersoul, do you have a surgery date yet? I just want to keep up with what is going on with you. I had my surgery on March 11th and I am now in my 8th week post op. My 9th week will start next Wednesday. It has gone by so fast, I cannot believe it has been 2 months since my surgery. I will be honest the 1st week was hardest, the second week was hard but a little bit better than the first. It does get better I promise you. I went to my 1st local support meeting at the end of April and the next one will be at the edn of May. I am trying to make all these meetings while the days are getting longer, I have an hours drive to get to the support group so when we head back to fall and winter with shorter days I will not be going all the time. Are you working with a nutrionist? I met with mine 2 weeks before surgery and 3 weeks after. She also heads up the support group meetings too. I did meet my surgeon twice before surgery and I on the day of surgery but I have not seem him since. He has several assistants that I see. My 1st visit at his office was 1 week post suregy and I had my second visit one month later. I am schedule back at his office in July (3 month post op visit) and I will see my nutrionist for a one on one the same day. Lots of office visits the 1st year. I think that is a good thing. I am still stage 2 for eating so nothing is going to change for me until my July visits. I think I am going to take your advise and start exercising my arms and shoulds, I really think I can handle that right now and just to do a few leg exercises in a chair. I know of a website called Sparkepeople.com and I think there are a few chair excerises on the web. Baby steps at this point and just keep moving as we go along. If you and Sassy are looking for a good movie, go see Oblivion, it is soooo good, lots of action, a real story line and great acting. I really hope the baby boomer chat room gets moving or we ladies are going to have to communicate another way. Any thoughts? Take care, Cheryl

Hey Sassy, I am still here, I do check the site and do not see anyone but me or you. What is up with that? I however just found southernsoul on here so it is just the three of us? If so, is there another kind of forum we could use? How about facebook but that is only if we can make our little group a private page so no one else can read our messages. I am sure that you and southernsoul want to keep a few things private like I do. Just as a start I am now on my 8th week post op and still on liquids and a few soft foods like eggs, cheese, yogart, oatmeal, fish and chicken. I still rely on protein shakes to get my protein grams up each day. At this point I have been told to up my protein to 65 to 71 grams a day. I am also getting in around 678 to 900 calories a day. I still have a problem getting in all my water and I really have not started a real exercise program( shame on me). My knees keep hurting me and I know that is what is keeping me from exercising. I live in Sarasota, FL and right now it has been really humid so I am not much for outdoors over the summer months. I hope we can get a few others to join our group. I have to be honest I am noticing that once people have their WLS that most just start to leave the website. The longer post op they are the less they want to contribute and that is a real disappointment to me as it is to you. WE are all in this together and the 1st year or 2 can be difficult. Well good to hear from you and I hope souternsoul stays connected too. Let me know what you think. Love back, Cheryl

    I am Afraid

Hey Sassy, you have made up your mind to have the surgery and I am so happy for you. Just keep a positive mind and do not listen to any negativity, that is what I had to do too. You sound a lot like me so I really do understand where you are coming from. Has the doctor set a date for your surgery? Once you have a date believe it or not you will feel better. I know I did. I went to my local support group last Thursday and a woman walked in on a walker and sat down beside me. We talked a little since it was my 1st time at support. During our support session the nutrionist called out her name and told everyone that when she first met Mary that she was in a wheelchair and now she is walking with the assistance of a walker. Mary stated that she is walking all over her house room to room and have even ventured out doors to walk about 5 minutes outside and she also stated that in 4 months she will be off the walker that is was her goal. I know she will do it just like you will. You have pushed the GREEN button and you are on your way. I'm liking the SassyChill. Take care and keep me posted. Cheryl
