  1. So' date=' I'm 13wks out. Lots and lots of changes happening since my VSG surgery. I have noticed that I feel cold alot, and I have the sensory smell of a pregnant woman...which leads me to my topic today. I never thought I would reach the "lose the crave" phase of my recovery. Well fellow sleevers, I'm here today to say that it's a real thing. I'm a junk food junkie, loved fast food, and a straight carb-a-holic. I love french fries, nachos, tacos, burgers, chili dogs, etc....for the first time since surgery I have lost the craving for fast food stuff. With my new "pregnancy sense of smell" my stomach turns with certain odors. While working one day last week a mom of several tiny tots came in and had stopped at Jack in the Box to feed her brood. The smell of those once glorious curly fries TURNED MY STOMACH!!! YES!!! The freshly fried taters were turning me green so much that I had to close my "window" to the lobby so that I could breathe! Slowly but surely I've noticed that this is happening w/many other bad foods that I once treasured (although sometimes my brain still thinks I want it). Anyone else had this happen? Is it hormonal or chemical? It happens quite often w/things non-food related as well - i.e. cigarette/cigar smoke.

In other news, DOWN 22 LBS and go for my 3mnth follow up next week.

Keep on Truckin' sleevers...it's a long road, but stay at the ready!

    HAPPY MONDAY![/quote']

Ha! That is one amazing accomplishment!!! Good for you! And congrats on the loss!

  2. I had my gastric sleeve done on Tuesday. I feel like I've come such a long way since then. My mom insisted I get out of the house (I haven't been going outside because of my JP drain). So she took me out on a nice' date=' country drive. It was the most awesomest feeling! I want to keep going! We got out of her truck and walked around this park area, with tall grass. It was so invigorating! I can't wait to go back! I feel like a new person! It was beautiful outside and a little chilly! So perfect![/quote']

Glad that you are feeling so great!!!

  3. And I am sorry for hijacking your post! I just needed to get that out! That was just an ignorant comment that was definately unnecessary! I dont know the poster of it and maybe it wasn't ment to be taken that way' date='(I don't se how but I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt) but that just got right under my skin!

To answer you original question, I am almost 3 months post op and have had Frozen yougurt for the first time post op last week... I only ate a little bit, it was sugar free and my nut said it was a great dessert![/quote']

Well I appreciate you saying something. It got me pretty worked up when I read it, but I figured I must have missed something. It's all done and said now... I said my peace to the ignorance, time to move on.

    ;)

  4. I am very sorry to be off topic but this comment bothers me ALOT!!! Are you trying to imply that the only people who value and take this surgery seriously are the ones who pay out of pocket for it...?

I was very lucky to have my insurance pay for my surgery' date=' that being said I pay VERY HIGH premiums biweekly for my health insurance, and yes I am blessed to have great insurance that covered my sleeve surgery, but that in no way shape or form mean I take getting 80% of my stomach cut out lightly... I think this was not a very fair comment to make...[/quote']

I totally offended me too!!!! Out of the whole response from this person, that line got under my skin the most! We are all in this for the same reason! Why would it matter how you financially obtained your sleeve?

Trust me, you are not alone in having an issue with the comment! :)

  5. Holy notifications!!! Lol

First' date=' I'm really sorry if the way I worded anything offended you. I didn't mean anything to sound mean at all. And I don't think that because you thought about trying some frozen yogurt you'll fail!! I even said I think it's a great alternative for a healthy dessert. I just said I think 6 days is too early. But I'm not even sleeved yet! What the hell do I know?!? Lol

And Grace is right. And I didn't mean it that way either. I certainly didn't get fat by cheating early on my post op diet, I just meant my mind set of keeping that food addiction and looking for ways to add sweets in back early. Then totally, over time that same food addiction ended up at the buffet jamming slider foods down my throat as fast as my band could take it. I think your food choice is a good one if you wanted something sweet, my comment was in regards to it being so early out and sticking to your post op diet. You've done so well getting to where you are, I just thought you should hold out a little longer until your doc's diet permitted it. I think in the long run, it'll help your losses and your mental/emotional process. But everyone goes through this in different ways and we don't all have the same relationship with food. So I'm sorry if you were offended by what I said, I was just trying to share what I put myself through and offer support. Didn't mean to be rude.[/quote']

You didn't offend me AT ALL! ;)

  6. Haven't read the whole thread yet' date=' but I'd say no to the frozen yogurt right now, even sugar/fat free versions. I became (and still am) lactose intolerant after my sleeve. I can't eat any dairy except cheese without having horrible diarrhea and cramping. I cannot imagine having that happen this soon post-op. You may be luckier than me and not have those issues, but I'd be very cautious simply because many people apparently have lactose intolerance for some period of time after the sleeve. I was hoping mine might be related to my gallbladder, but nothing has changed since it was removed a month ago.[/quote']

True! I'm glad you brought that up, I never thought about the lactose being an issue!

  7. I use frozen mango (when you can) from trader joes and throw a banana in a little milk mix it in the blender... My son LOVES it.

And don't sweat the rude people they probably need to eat a cheeseburger and calm down <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

It's funny because the thought if having a smoothy type drink instead of frozen yogurt didn't even cross my mind. That would be a much more rewarding treat (when I am ready to go there) than frozen yogurt! ;)

  8. It's the sf carnation instant breakfast. My surgeon listed it in the post op folder so I assume he's ok with it. I've only had a half of a bottle...it just doesn't taste good.

    I can't advance to Jello until the soft stage...that's another 2 weeks <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I will say this first week (or two in your case) is a major adjustment, to say the least. :)

Hang in there... There is light at the end of the tunnel!!! ;)

  9. You are welcome.

Secondly I stated when you are on pureed have the greek yogurt. Wow I certainly wish you all the best...................................

    You really are something else!

Were you never "new" to all of this? Please don't forget that we haven't all been sleeved or weeks, months or years. My question was an honest question that DID not deserve that harsh of a response. I understand tough love and keepin our post real (no sugar coating), but to question if I paid for my surgery? That was totally uncalled for. Of course I paid for my surgery!

As if someone who goes out of the states and pays cash for their surgery would value their sleeve more than somebody that has it covered by their insurance here in the states??? That is a crazy accusation.

Regardless if I have insurance or went to Mexico and paid cash, I had my surgery done for the same purpose that everybody else has. I am on my journey (and doing pretty darn well) for the long haul. I am willing to make the changes that I need to make to be successful and live that healthy lifestyle that I have longed for.

I come to this forum for support and ideas, not to be kicked to the ground. It's not like I went out and ate something I shouldn't have... I just asked a question...

Idk. I guess if you feel that your response was appropriate than so be it. I just want you to know that I found it rather harsh to make the comment that you did.

  10. Can't have Malto meal until soft stage' date=' no yogurt yet either and I can't even have Jello <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> I may try the different seasoning in the broth though. I'm just struggling to get enough Protein and Water and nothing tastes good <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />[/quote']

I can't have yogurt yet either. But sf Jello has been one of my greatest loves! When can you advance to jello???

  11. Yeah' date=' rude people be damned, it was not a good call though, and I wished I hadn't done it. I got dizzy, light headed, almost sort of disoriented and had a terrible case of diarrhea because of it. I'm pretty frank with people when it comes to obviously silly things, but i try not to be holier-than-thou because we all do dumb things and if anyone says they don't they are either one-in-a-million type people OR they are lying to you. I don't have a problem with someone telling me that was a stupid choice because it was, but it happens.

A few ounces of frozen yogurt will not end all your weight loss, but it might stall you for a few days if you are not usually having sugar. Is that worth it to you? I don't know, maybe it is, for me, it was an emotional impulsive-ish choice, I was spending the day with my husband and we were having a good time. I wouldn't even say I "regret it" except that it did make me ill. It's put me off sugar though because I am scared of that happening again. huge turn-off.[/quote']

Most certainly wouldn't be worth it for me. I have been losing weight steadily and I like my progress so far. I'm still on the "liquids only" stage for a couple more days. I can say that my greatest sense has become smell. I smell all of the things that I use to devour and thy is enough for me now. I made bacon the other morning for my family and just took the scent of it in. I opened a loaf of French bread for their spaghetti and just stuck my nose in the bag! Ha! That is good enough for me. I KNOW I can't stomach any of that... Nor, do I want to to sabotage my efforts of these first 6months! Heck no! Not worth it!

  12. Unfortunately there are some rather mean and nasty people on this board. This is why a lot of people are lurkers and not posters. Thanks for asking the question because a lot of people think/ask the same question (I had it). At the yogurt places here they post the nutritional values on the machine or have a brochure. I went with my kids and had the little sample/taster cup. Would you believe I didn't explode or gain all my weight back :sarcastic:?

    You don't say!!! ;p

  13. So this morning I weighed and was very happy to see that ol' familiar friend of mine again!!! Ohhhh how I have missed seeing that 1 instead of the 2 on my scale. It has been about 3 years or so since I have weighed anything under 200lbs.

Granted, I'm 6 days post op and in sure my weight will fluctuate when I start to eat again, but I'll basque in this victory while I can! Woo-Hoo!

  14. How are my follow 2/26'ers? Feeling any better? Im still trying to figure out this whole thing! When to eat' date=' what to eat, when to drink. Lots of little aches and pains I'm trying to figure out as well. They are right when they say its a whole lifestyle change!![/quote']

Hanging in there! I can honestly say that I feel MUCH better than I had anticipated. With that being said, my two issues... My abdominal muscle where trey removed my stomach is still very sore and I'm still dealing with the gas discomfort. Both are something that I can live with and seem to improve every day.

I'm VERY glad I decided to take two weeks off of work and not just one. There is no way I am personally ready to go back to work right now. I feel that my energy levels are still adjusting and I need a bit longer to adjust to the mental end of this.

  15. I just want you to know I'm 8 days out! When we got sleeved I mean the group that was with me' date=' the next day we had a Ice cream bar of course we didnt eat the fruit n it but its ok don't be harsh on your self!I was dying for food the first few days head hunger but to satisfy ur craving if u just can't handle it have a lil. It won't kill u nor harm u I promise!!![/quote']

Ha! Thank you. It's funny because I'm not "hungry" and I'm not craving anything specific. I was just curious and wasn't sure where to zen yogurt fit in. I had no idea it didn't have nutritional value (I assumed some Calcium would t be too bad in the next week or two).

I'll stick to my sf Popsicles for now. They are most certainly my saving grace! ;)

  16. Have you ever tried the frozen bananas! Some of the yogurt places carry them. Super yummy. They taste just like frozen yogurt. I'm still in pre-op and was wondering the same. I figured sugar free and a tiny bit. But maybe the banana would be a little more nutritional even thought it prob carries more calories. Just a suggestion

I've never had one, but I can imagine that would be tasty!!!! I'm not sure which stage of eating that would fall into. I know bananas generally would be a "mushy" food, but since they are frozen...??? Idk.

They sell them just as plain frozen banana? Or is it dipped in something??? I have only seen these at the county fair, and they are usually dipped in chocolate with peanuts....

  17. I went to orange leaf with my husband on my 7th day post op (NOT a good call)

Yeah' date=' I did it though, and I'm owning it, but I really wished I hadn't. It made me feel quite sick.[/quote']

That was very brave of you to share that after the rude response that I received earlier just for being curious about it! Thank you! I do appreciate you sharing your experience with me, and with all New comers. Sometimes being new at something takes some time and some "ridiculous" questions, but this is how we learn (by example).

    Thanks again!

  18. Hey everyone! I had surgery on Tuesday. Today is Sunday and I'm 14 pounds down! I can't believe I'm 14 pounds down... this is crazy!!!

I'm still having a hard time getting my fluids and Proteins in though... I think the most Protein I've gotten in was 20 grams and fluids is 30 oz. I'm just gonna keep on trying to get the Protein and fluids in.

I know this might be too much info but... my pee stinks! It is really dark and stinky. I don't feel like I have a UTI but I might or it might just be slight dehydration... what do you think? The only thing I can do is keep sipping! I'm having my JP drain taken out on Wednesday. If it is still like this' date=' should I mention it to my surgeon?[/quote']

I was sleeved Tuesday too! I would HIGHLY suggest sf Popsicles! They are a wonderful way to get some "fluid" intake. I also bought a couple Powerade Zeros today, because i too was having some of the symptoms that you are having. They are similar to Gatorade.

Hang in there!!! Congrats on your weight loss#!!! That is great!

  19. ok' date=' here might be another option for you as a fellow Day 6'er. I have put in the blender some skim milk, some crushed ice, Protein powder then I added a packet of Hawiian Punch sf packets or you could use any kind, Mio, etc...give it a whirl, instant Protein smoothie, Just remember not to use the straw, then pour some into small containers and put into the FREEZER. When I had my 4 oz one this afternoon, it was just like frozen yogurt.

Good luck. I hope to be able to attack creamed Soups, we'll see on Tuesday when I go for my check-up.

    Carol[/quote']

    Ohhhhhh heck that sounds WONDERFUL!!!!!

I should be receiving my unflavored protein samples tomorrow, I will most certainly give this a try!!!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for the support!
