Going through a very stressful time at work and am falling back into old coping habits...Food Can't seem to stop shoving crap in my mouth and its killing me. Not a complete off the wagon gorge myself, but I snack on "stuff" all day. Very down on myself about it. Just felt like telling my friends.

    P90X After Surgery...is it doable?

Mark, what is your take on Crossfit?'Ive been stalled in the 225 range for two months. Just went hiking in the Rockies for a week and came back at 218. It was very Crossfit like with all the pack lifting and major up and down peaks and valleys. Ok, maybe not "very" Crossfit but in Dallas there aren't many 14k foot peaks to climb. :-)

  7. Researching reviews on Amazon and saw this. About wet myself laughing. "3.0 out of 5 stars Gross, but has a lot of proteinI drink these for lunch because I need Protein and like to torture myself. They taste like a wild boar's butthole farting green apple, but I just close my eyes and pretend that I am Dumbledore drinking the Drink of Despair and I'm able to choke it down."

    Fried vs Scrambled Eggs

Anyone having any issues with scrambled eggs? If I fry them they go down fine. Scramble them and I get an upset stomach???
  13. I've pasted some really interesting articles on times of digestion. Not endorsing any of these whatsoever in terms of reliability. Just some interesting info. Article 1) The Stomach The food passes from the esophagus into the stomach through an opening called the cardiac orifice. As soon as food enters the stomach, a hormone called gastrin is released into the bloodstream. This hormone is carried to the gastric glands in the stomach, which causes them to secrete digestive juices. These gastric juices help in the chemical digestion of the food, while the rhythmic contractions of the stomach contribute to the mechanical process of digestion. These juices contain primarily hydrochloric acid (HCl) and digestive enzymes. This hydrochloric acid makes the stomach a very acid environment with a pH factor between 1.5 and 3.0 This acid environment serves two, functions: 1) it acts as a denaturant in digestion of proteins; and 2) it kills small parasites that are often found in all foods. There are three primary enzymes present in the gastric juices… The first is pepsin, which aids in the hydrolysis of Proteins. The pepsin enzyme begins breaking down complex proteins into their simpler forms. It does not actually split the proteins into amino acids (the end-product of Protein digestion), but it prepares them for that process which is suppose to happen in the intestines. The pepsin enzyme works best in a fairly acid environment The second enzyme is called lipase. This aids in the hydrolysis of fats. Lipase digests fats by aiding their breakdown into glycerol and fatty acids. The third enzyme, found only in the gastric juices of infants, is called rennin. Its primary function is the hydrolysis of milk proteins. Adults do not have the rennin enzyme in sufficient quantity to digest milk products. Consequently, the only time milk should be used in the diet is during infancy and young childhood. Even at these times, the only suitable milk is that from the lactating mother. Milk from cows, goats, etc. is not of the same composition as is mother's milk. Gastric juice along with all these three enzymes are mixed into the food by the mechanical actions of the stomach. The stomach contracts in waves at the rate of three per minute. The gastric juices mixed in by the contracting and relaxing stomach are initially stimulated by the thought, sight, smell and taste of the food. This occurs before any food has actually entered the stomach. These juices are sometimes called the "appetite juices", and they may be suppressed if the food appears unappetizing, smells bad, or is eaten in an unpleasant environment. Even the emotions can have an impact on the secretions and appetite and in the presence of intense pain, fear, depression etc, gastric juices may almost suppressed. FACT - The stomach empties at the slow rate of about 3/100 ounce for each peristaltic wave. Making it three waves per minute, it can take up to five hours for two pounds of food to leave the stomach. The emptying time of the stomach also varies with the type of food present. Water and liquids leave the stomach most rapidly. Fats are getting emptied very long as they are heavy to digest. Carbohydrates empty more quickly than proteins; proteins, in turn, leave the stomach more quickly than fats. Within five minutes after fat enters the stomach, a hormone called enterogastrone enters the bloodstream and travels to the stomach; this hormone inhibits the motion of the stomach and makes it to empty at a much slower rate. Since different foods require different sets of environments in the stomach to digest properly, it is reasonable to assume that if these foods are put into the stomach at the same time, difficulties could occur. That is exactly what happens. If different foods are to be put into the stomach at the same meal, they should at least be of the same type that requires the same set of digestive conditions. Ideally, of course, only one food should be eaten at a meal to insure optimum digestion. Article 2) (This one I'm not as convinced of) DIGESTION TIME OF VARIOUS FOODS (approx. time spent in stomach before emptying). ........ Water when stomach is empty, leaves immediately and goes into intestines, Juices Fruit vegetables, vegetable broth - 15 to 20 minutes. 20. How do I weigh 221 on one day and then 223.8 a day later? I haven't ingested 3500 calories in a single day since pre surgery (last November). How can I possibly gain almost 3 pounds in less than 2 days when at best I'm eating 1200 calories?
  21. I got so sick of shakes after my liquid period. Literally having anything liquid I supplement form make me gag. Unfortunately I'm finding it difficult to get all my Protein in. I've been doing a lot of research and just ordered Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex. Rich Milk chocolate flavor. I've been making it with 12 ounces of 2% milk and a splash of Water with ice. Tried it in blender but it turned to foam and was nasty. Apparently their formula is specially made to mix easily so now I just use my shaker bottle. I also just had for an after dinner drink the powder using just water. While not as tasty as with the milk it was plenty tasty nonetheless. My son thought it was chocolate milk both with milk and with just the water. I've put the link below. I've had 4 shakes in pat couple days and I'm really happy with the purchase. I've found my protein missing link and this stuff has a ton of other goodies in it. Quest Protein Bars

I live on these things. The mixed berry bliss is my favorite followed by the banana nut and coconut cashew. I've found that GNC is just as cheap as Amazon or Quest online and there is no sales tax as its a supplement.

    Squating advice needed - Help!

I'm really feeling better now. Your original reply that comes straight to my email had you saying "calm down Sally". Glad you decided to edit it as if I had to question both my ignorance level and my masculinity I might start to get the idea you don't like me Mark. That's impossible since a simple response about proper form couldn't have made a person respond that way. Anyway, thanks for toning down your original post even if it still made its way to my inbox. I'm headed to the gym to do some squats with weights and proper form. All the best kind sir.

    Squating advice needed - Help!

Wow! I'm not just 100% ignorant. I'm 110% ignorant. Thanks for that constructive feedback friend. Perhaps I should be more specific, then maybe I'll get downgraded to 90 or even 85% ignorance. If you take the time to read what I wrote, I didn't say body weight squats are better than weighted squats. I said proper form trumps a bunch of weight being done incorrectly. If you're loaded up with a huge stack of weights and doing the exercise all wrong versus less weight with fantastic form then yes, I believe that trumps the other. It's fairly common sense but what can I say...I'm 110% ignorant.
