How do you handle different scales?
aviva1979 replied to aviva1979's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks all! I did recently replace the battery. My sister has noticed mine is always higher than hers as well. No one likes weighing themselves at my house I imagine I will get weighed at the hospital next week before surgery so I think after that I will go and buy a new scale that is close/on that number and see where that gets me. The upside is I think it is very likely I've lost enough to be back in "the two's"... Next stop, ONEderland (in 12-18 months ! -

If you are on MyFitnessPal (or might sign up) I am happy to be an accountability partner (and always need more for myself) - I'm avivasrobinson on there. Separately - what is a pouch test?

Date set: July 11th - any other July banders?
aviva1979 replied to aviva1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another band twin Welcome to the July Bandsters - good luck to us all! I'm day 8 today on 2 week pre op diet. Finally getting to a point where I'm not hungry all day - tho it does come on with a vengeance later at night so I've been going to be a little early to avoid it. -
My fave is stoneyfield Greek vanilla flavored. The other Greek options are a little tart for me taste. Check the sugar on them tho - it can get high in a hurry.

I am going to the store this weekend to get what I need for post surgery and I was reading all the diet stuff my nutritionist gave me and I only have 1 day of clear liquids. Then 7 full liquids, 14 mushies, and 14 soft foods. Does anyone else have just a single day of clear liquids post surgery? I'd somehow anticipated that might be longer. -
Sorry about this gross question...

I am day 7 pre op diet and am mostly protein Shakes plus .5 cup of fruit, veg and starch. I have been mixing my veg serving (using spinach) into my protein smoothies (just the powder, water, and ice) and I think the ruffage has helped keep me regular. -
Can't wait to try this - I've never met a chickpea I didn't like!

I can't wait till I am post surgery, and back to real foods to try this!

Maggie - I did some quick googling and it looks like the primary difference with the realize band is that the port can be placed lower on the body so it is less noticeable as you lose weight. http://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/surgeries-compared/lap-band-vs-realize-band Aviva -

Hey Marieh- My random 2 cents - you might want to cut the carbonation now. There are so many other tests of will power post surgery that starting to get off the bubble now may make things slightly easier in the long run. I'm a seltzer fiend and had to stop weeks ago to let the craving ebb a bit. Good luck either way - I know how hard it is to give up! Aviva -

As I understand it - walking around and using hot packs and cold packs can help the left shoulder pain - but OTC gas remedies don't do much because the air that is used to inflate your body cavity during surgery isn't actually in your digestive tract - it's in all the areas around it - so I think eventually your body just reabsorbs it. From everything I have read the best remedy is moving around (even slowly). -

good luck! i'm on Day 6 today and yesterday was the first day my head didn't really hurt - i think it was detoxing from sugar and carbs. i'm still hungry pretty much all the time, but it feels good to get each day under my belt to build confidence that i can do it. good luck to everyone stickin out the pre-op phase together right now!

Pre-op diet killing me mentally!
aviva1979 replied to Shante92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm also on a diet that restricts meat - i wondered the same thing, but have elected to just follow my doctor's requirements so that when i show up next thurs for surgery i'm good to go. i wonder if maybe part of it is that the Protein Shake can deliver the protein in a leaner way? less calories, fat, cholesterol, etc? -
assuming you didn't very recently have a fill.... did you fly? i've read on here that some folks experience some tightness with their band after flying... and it sounds like it does eventually go away.

i think your daughters (and sons) have a terrific role model in their life!

Happy Bandiversary! I also wanted to say how sorry i am for your loss. that is such a hard thing to deal with, and they say time makes it easier but i'm not so sure. the good news is it seems you were very self aware of the connections between your mood and your behaviors, and that's great. have fun with the nephew!
