  1. Hi

How are you, my surgeon is Dr. George Fielding, this team is the best team

yeah..it was a tossup for me..her or him. I went with her because I know someone else who used her and was happy with her. Please keep me posted on the experience and how you are doing once you can come back online. Also...are you staying overnight or going home the same day? I've been told to stay overnight but I haven't cleared it with the office or Nilsa yet.

  2. My date is 1/28 and the only prep diet I have is liquids only 3 days prior. What does. Everyone else have to do and why do we have to do this, does anyone know?? Also has anyone found a Protein Shake they like, I've tried so many and they all make me gag and or puke... The only thing I can manage is sugar free carnation instant breakfast :( any suggestions?

Hi Betsy...I'm on a mostly liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery. I'm allowed slimfast and glucerna shakes and have tried all the slimfast and they are pretty good. so is the chocolate glucerna. I'm starting to gag on the low sodium broth with veggies...switched to broccoli to see if that helps. the green Beans and cauliflower are making my stomach turn after a week. I wish I only had to do the diet for three days instead of two weeks.

  3. I was banded through NYU on 12/26. I live in suburbs but work in the city. My biggest fear is getting jostled on the LIRR when I go home in the evening. I have had no issues walking from Penn to my office or from NYU to my office, but LIRR - that's tough.

Also, I really appreciated having my family around after the surgery. My husband and daughter know I had LBS but my sons think I had a "lady procedure." I really didn't get out of bed for 2 days.

    Good luck.

Dr. Ren is doing my surgery as well. are you happy with her? I know she's not particularly warm and fuzzy, which is fine...I'm more concernd with her doctor skills rather than her people skills.

  4. After my surgery the nurses got me up every 2 hours ( I think! It was a little blurry!) to aid with breathing and more importantly prevent blood clots in the legs. No laying in bed. I think walking around on quieter(?) NYC streets might be a possibility, or walking in a nearby park. You do need to be active no matter where you are living.

thanks for the feedback. am very concerned about blood clots...lost my husband due to that very thing. surgeon is putting me on blood thinners after surgery to lessen the chance of anything happening because I may not be so mobile. I figured worst case...I walk the hallway of my floor as best I can.

  5. I just joined Lapband Talk. My surgery date is 1/14. I'm not really nervous but kind of jittery because I want it to happen so much. I started the pre-op diet and have already lost 5 pounds in 3 days.

Hi R-Sheryl. I'm also having the surgery on 1/14. Went for my pre-op appointment today and am down 5 lbs. in 5 days. Good luck to you and all of us making this journey!

  6. Hey guys my op is for 24th of January I'm feeling anxious, scared, happy, frighten haha I don't know mixed emotions and you all help a lot! Keep me posted. I'm doing mine in manchester uk? What about you??

good luck alicelopes! Visiting your neck of the woods is something I've wanted to do for the longest time. I am a true Anglophile and want to see all the places I've read about....in London mostly...Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, London Bridge, a ride on the Thames, St. Pauls, Westminster...I could go on and on. That is surely one of my goals after losing the weight and getting my knee replaced.

  7. This is day 2 of my pre-op diet and I'm hungry..not gonna lie about that. I'm also dealing with very bad arthritis in my right knee and not allowed to take any more anti-inflammatory meds because they thin the blood. So...I'm hungry and am in pretty bad pain...not a good combo. But...I did this to myself by letting the weight pile on and make my situation that much worse. My primary goal is not to look better, but to be more mobile and in less pain. I will still need a knee replacement but at least after weight loss, I should have a better outcome. My orthopedist told me in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't do well without losing weight first. I want to be able to walk without a cane again and to make it more than a block before having to stop and sit. I'm only 54 but I feel like I'm 90. I want to travel again, to sit on the floor with my granddaughter and play with her...or to ride a bike with her...all the things people take for granted unless they can't do them. That's what I'm trying to focus on instead of not being able to eat a half a box of Pasta at a single sitting.... Anyone on this thread in the NYC area? I'm having my surgery at NYU...I was supposed to do this in November, but Hurricane Sandy closed the hospital for all this time and I wanted to wait until it was back up and running.

  8. I'm getting banded on January 14th. I have very bad arthritis in my right knee and can't walk very well anymore. If I don't lose weight, I won't be able to walk at all pretty soon and that's scarier than any surgery. I'm 54 and have grown children and one grandaughter and I can't even play with her anymore because I'm so limited physically. I'm not 90 but I feel like I am at times. My sister and I made a pact....once I can walk well again, we are going to Paris on vacation. I am doing this to get my quality of life back. I used to walk all the time..and living in NYC, there was nothing better than exploring all those little side streets, and the wonders they held. I want to do that again and am hoping this lap-band will enable me to do so.

  9. I'm in the city as well. Surgery at NYU scheduled for 1/14. Started pre-op diet today. Very nervous about all of this....especially because I'm dealing with a bum knee and am not too mobile. Planning on recuperating at home but am wondering now if my walking issues will be a problem. Looking to converse with other city folk who are going through this experience.
