  1. Oh R-Sheryl....that has me so worried...getting 'stuck' and throwing up. I'm not even sure that I want any fills because of that. I know...then it's just another diet..but avoiding getting stuck is quite a deterrent in my opinion.

Luckily I didn't throw up, but what you feel from the gas after surgery is minor compared to the pain I had between my shoulders doing this. It took a couple of minutes before everything settled and quit hurting. Like I said, chew everything. Don't hurry.

  2. All of my life I have looked like I weighed less than I actually did. I have memories as a 6th grader going in for a checkup before entering Mid School and the nurse putting me on the scale twice because I didn't look like I was 130 pounds then.

What I've told people is that while I look good with the weight I'm carrying, I'm more worried about the weight and diabetes (its on both sides of my family), heart problems which were in all of my grandparents, and just losing the energy to exercise.

  3. I don't go back to work until the 28th and I've been wondering how some people have been able to go back to work so quickly. I feel pretty good but I still tire out easily!

I'm going to talk to the doctor about that. I really am coming to the conclusion that I need to rest a while longer before I return to work. I stay up most of the day with a short nap in the afternoon which is good. And I am on my computer and doing a few other easy things during the day. Don't think I'm ready for work yet even though I'm at a computer all day.

  4. I was banded on 1/14 and while the bloating has mostly dissipated, I'm still having gas especially at night and have the pain between my shoulders. I was beginning to think that this was unusual. I see my surgeon for a followup on Monday. I have what feels like single hiccups during the night which I think is my system trying to burp. Wish it would figure out there is another way out of my stomach. :P

  5. I have surgery in 3 days. Anyone have any advice for me on what to eat or not to eat? I do the Protein Shakes 2 times a day and still feel hungry. I think it's all in my head cause I am nervous.

But, I am glad to be having it done. The only bad thing is.... I have no one to help me out after surgery. My an is against me having it done now. He said he will not stay home the day after surgery. He is going back to work. I also have a 6 year old son. Ugh!!

God bless my mother. She may not have agreed with it wholeheartedly but she is willing to support me. She was there to take me to the hospital, and to bring me home after I got stuck overnight because of a reaction anesthesia. I'm having the opposite problem to you. I have no appetite at all and have to make sure I'm eating. My doctor sent me home with a sheet that said I could have pureed Soup, applesauce (any of the flavored kinds) sugar free Jello, pudding, etc. As I replied to another posting, although I feel great with only minor achiness around the incisions, I've had mild gas which is not great. It sometimes makes me feel nauseous, but I am losing weight.

  6. I had my surgery Thursday and I have barely eaten since. I need suggestions on this liquid post op diet. I barely eat or drink anything I just can't make myself. I've lost 8 pounds since Thursday.

I'm having the same problem; although I think I stumbled on the reason last night. I think two things are happening -- 1) my band is too tight and 2) I'm having mild gas which makes my stomach think I'm full. I'm treating the gas and still trying to make sure I eat. I see my doctor on Monday and will address with her if the band is too tight.

  7. Had my surgery Monday. For the first time couldn't wake up from the anesthetic. I had to stay over night in the hospital. Doing better now. Have no appetite, but I'm trying to drink my shakes each day. Have had a couple of bouts of nausea. I see the surgeon Monday for my next appointment, but I am feeling a little better each day.

  8. My pre-op and post-op diet are just about the same for the first two days post-op. I can have a shake twice a day and light Soup plus a snake of SF pudding as an example. I think there are so many different diets because of what the doctors think is best and what your physical condition is going in. I weighed this morning and I've lost 10 pounds since starting the pre-op.

Wish me luck my surgery is tomorrow morning at 7:30. My mom is coming to pick me up at 5:30 AM.

  9. My date is 1/28 and the only prep diet I have is liquids only 3 days prior. What does. Everyone else have to do and why do we have to do this, does anyone know?? Also has anyone found a Protein Shake they like, I've tried so many and they all make me gag and or puke... The only thing I can manage is sugar free carnation instant Breakfast :( any suggestions?

My clinician explained to me that this allows your liver to shrink. It makes it easier for the surgeon if your liver is smaller to move aside to get to your stomach. Less possibility of damage to your stomach or your liver.

  10. I would really like someone else's oppinion and thoughts on this. PLEASE HELP!! :(

Haven't had the problem of my surgery rescheduled but I kept telling the financial person at the clinic that I couldn't have the surgery before Christmas. I was traveling by car 8 hours each way to be at my brother's in Arizona. Even though he was told this 3 times, he still kept calling wanting to schedule the surgery. I finally told him I wouldn't do it since I didn't think it would be safe to be in a car right after surgery and if I needed to do it, I would personally call the insurance company and explain the situation and get the approval for a later surgery. Guess what! The insurance company had absolutely no problem with the delay since it will only be about 3 weeks later. Hang in there. Now is not the time ti give up. We will all support you through this. Just vent to us.

  11. I'm in NM. Everything is a little backwards at the moment. Because of the holidays and the schedule for surgery and pre-op not being posted earlier. I was scheduled for 1/14 for surgery. Started my diet 1/2. and will go for pre-op 1/9. The pre-op clinician called me today because she was confused and I had to explain what was happening to her. :)
