  1. The first few days post-op, I had to be sipping constantly to get in enough fluids. Even 1 ounce every half hour should get you at least a quart a day. It has to be your main focus every mniute you are awake You can do this.
  2. I know I'm a senior, but what's with no punctuation? I really can't make sense of this.
  3. I am 18 days post-op and have been feeling great up until about 4 or 5 days ago. I'm having new sharp, burning pain in my belly. It is not near any incisions. There is no heat or redness. The spot is just to the left of my navel. I'm having no problems eating, drinking etc. Has anyone had this experience? I'm wondering if this is related to my port. Can someone tell me where the port is located in relation to the port incision. BTW I'm calling the doc this morning.

    Questions

I did not have a required pre-op diet, but I self imposed one. I cut out sugar, caffeine, high fat foods and alcohol. I put myself on a 1200 calorie restriction and practiced the eating habits I'd need after banding. I started logging my food intake on myfitnesspal.com, which I'm still using and love. This made my transition to post-op eating much easier and I lost 9 pounds before the sugery. I did not have any vomiting issues afterwards. I'm two weeks post-op today and just started on pureed food. I've lost a total of 19 pounds all together. I used Tylenol with Codiene for pain control afterwards. It's the only one I can tolerate. I was also sent home with anti-nausea meds, but never needed them. Hope this helps.
  10. I felt lousy until my 9th day. I'm two weeks out today and feel great. Each day will be better for you. Take your diet and your activity slow.
  11. Were you given a post-op diet to follow? I'd stick with what the surgeon recommends.
  12. Two weeks post-op today. feel great. Down 19 pounds. Finished two weeks of post-op, clear liquid diet. On to purees today.....yum. Began working out with Wii Fit. Still using myfitnesspal.com which has become my new best friend. Love that site!

    Surgery Dates!

I'm so happy for you. I see you've lost some weight. Congrats on that as well. I'm paving the way for you I actually went out to lunch today to one of my favorite spots and had the chef puree his delicious seafood bisque. It was yummy. My first yummy food since the surgery.

    Severe pain in ribs!

I had the same type of pain post-op, along with shoulder, collar bone, and back pain, especially when I took a deep breath. It was a result of being inflated with CO2 gas durung the surgery. This gas is not in the intestines. It was put there to separate the internal organs so the surgeon could see better. It takes a while for this gas to dissapate. It's not gas you can burp or pass out the other end. It irritates the phrenic nerve, which passes along the diaphragm and into the chest cavity. I personally had this type of pain for 9 days! It gets better each day. This is just my opinion and experience. Hope it helps.
  20. I was banded on February 10th. It was just yesterday that I really felt good. Yesterday was the first I did not have shoulder or back discomfort from the gas used during the procedure. It hurt to take a deep breath and it was painful to drink more than just sips, for quite a few days. I can say it gets better each day. I still have no hunger and today, really no pain except some at my port site. I'm on clear liquids for 2 weeks post-op and then on to pureed food.......can't wait for Monday. Stay in touch.
  21. Lifting up prayer for you. See you in Band Land.
  22. Post-op day 9. All shoulder and back pain is finally gone. Still no appetite. My port site is still sore and somewhat swollen. Saw the surgeon yesterday for check-up. All is well, but could be overdoing the activity and strain on my abdomen.

    Severe pain in ribs!

    When was your surgery?
  24. I was banded on February 10th and yesterday was the first day I did not have shoulder or clavicle pain. It takes a while. It's normal to still have incisional pain, especially at the site of the port, since it is a larger incision and it takes time for the muscle to heal, Every time you do just about anything, you put strain in that area, so it takes a bit longer to heal. Each day you should feel better! Congratulations on your banding.
