  1. I am so happy for you my friend! Congratulations! You go girl!
  2. My starting weight was 240lbs and my goal is 150lbs.
  3. Thank you guys so much for the kind words.
  4. I was banded on January 16, 2013 and I am halfway to my goal weight as of today. This includes the 12 lbs I lost on the pre-op diet. I am so excited, and I just had to share. Hope everyone else is doing well.
  5. I tell people the truth. I am not embarassed. Anyone who thinks WLS is the easy way out is a moron. It is painful, expensive, frustrating, and I am hungry and still on a damn diet. lol This is no easy fix and I am working my butt off to be healthier. I don't know why I would not tell people the truth. I guess that is just me, but I believe honesty is the best policy.
  6. I was told it was related to stress, being overweight, and also that just being female made you more likely to get this type of hernia.
  7. It doubled the cost of my surgery, but I feel so much better. I had really bad acid reflux and it completely fixed it. Definitely get it all done at once if you can.
  8. Go for it! Screw what anybody else thinks. With or without a band, you will have to be on a diet which is what the contest is about. There is nothing unethical about it.
  9. I am halfway hoping for a fill and also very scared of getting one. I read all these posts where people get too much fill and are so miserable and I don't want to experience that.
  10. I was banded on the 16th and started getting hungry on post-op day 3. The liquids don't do much to curb it, it is just pure willpower at this point. I have my first pre-op appointment on Wednesday and I should get to start eating some soft foods then, so hopefully it will help. Just try to hang in there.
  11. Thank you Missy, I just don't want to do the wrong thing. I am not really hungry yet, but I already miss food. I am such a food addict, so I just have to learn how to nourish my body without eating crap. lol
  12. I had my surgery on the 16th. I would love to hear specifically what and how much and how often you consumed liquids for the first two weeks. I am having a very hard time deciding when and what to "eat". I know the guidelines, but I would just love to know exactly how other people did it. I am already down 17 lbs, including pre-op diet, and I am thrilled with being banded. Thanks for your help. Melissa
  13. I am two days post-op as well and my mouth is very dry too. I just sip on Water or eat ice chips very frequently.
  14. Thank you all! I would be thrilled to not have to take acid reducers anymore.
  15. After having my surgery postponed twice, I got banded today. I am so excited to be in the post-op portion of my journey. Surgeon said everything went well and besides being exhausted and my left shoulder hurting, I feel great. I know the shoulder will be something I will have to work through, and my belly is a ittle sore, but nothing major. If it wasn't for the shoulder pain, I would not need pain meds at all. Surgeon found a hiatal hernia, which he had suspected, and repaired it too. I am beyond happy and I am already down 12 lbs from pe-op diet.
  16. Looks like you and I will be recovering at almost the same time. Good luck to you!
  17. I had an original surgery date of January 4th,2013, which they rescheduled to the 11th because my surgeon decided to go on vacation. He then decided he wanted his partner to assist and rescheduled it again to the 16th. So, I am doing my pre-op diet, down 11lbs so far, and anxiously awaiting my surgery day. I have told anyone and everyone what I am having done and have heard all kinds of comments, both negative and positive. I don't give a darn what anyone thinks, it is my life and if my MD, my gynecologist, and my surgeon all think I need this surgery, then I will go with their advice over the naysayers. Good luck to everyone and thanks for all the great info on this forum. Mel
  18. I am scheduled for my surgery the 1-11-13 and my pre-op diet is going well. I am down 7 pounds so far. Good luck to everyone!
  19. Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I will be doing some taste testing.
  20. Can anyone tell me what brand/flavor of protein shake is their favorite? I have tried several and they all seem to have about the same nutritional values. Just looking for suggestions.
  21. My surgery has been postponed until January 11th due to a scheduling conflict the surgeon had.
  22. Down 29 lbs already! That is great. Merry Christmas!
  23. Thank you for the information. Glad you are doing so well.
