  1. I liked one soup so far, that was Latin style black been soup (has cilantro flavor and is mildly spicy. Butternut squash was not good for me, was slightly sweet. This is the point when I gave up and started to make my own soups today:) I have not tried tomato yet.

    Waiting

I do not have United Healthcare. However, just wanted to let you know that it took ten days (8 business days) for my insurance company to send the approval. I did not call. It depends how strong is your case.
  3. Good luck ladies for this week!!
  4. Hi Everyone, I am on postop Day 4 and I started cooking. I cannot stand the canned soups anymore. Today I made a delicious yellow split pea soup (only salt and pepper added) then pureed it and added water to make it thinner. Tomorrow will be lentil soup day. My imagination started to go wild: creamy potato leek soup, sweet potato soup, cauliflower soup, you name it... I want real food!!!!!!!!!!!! Anybody feel the same way?

    surgery June 28th

Hi, I could drink water and juice from Day 1. I could also swalloy protein shakes or thick, creamy soups from Day 2, however, I had no desire to BUT I forced myself to eat enough (at least 2x). maybe I should raise it 4x a day.
  6. Marieh, I just finished my food diary for today. On Day2 I was able to get in 70g proteins and 58 ounces of liquid. On Day 3 (today) it was 57g proteins and 57 ounces of liquid. I know it should be more but it is still around the lower end of the suggested amount. This morning I had water and skipped breakfast just went for another painkiller and that made me fall asleep at 8am and slept until 1pm. I had to play catch up with everything, proteins and liquids. Today I had my first shower, that was nice. I could clean the litterbox /Who knew that you can do it without bending down if you sit down on the toilet?? / Tomorrow I will definitely have breakfast. So far I only found one black bean soup I like and milk shake with fruits and vanilla. I am afraid this is what I will have to live for 10 more days ( How did you do? How is everybody who is in the early post-op days feeling??
  7. I wish good luck to Everyone!! The day of operation will go quickly. I am 3 days post-op and things are much easier now. Just hang on for the first couple of days.

    Horrible, horrible pain

Actually, with the horrible dreams I agree. I have odd and very vibrant dreams, but I still need that pain med to sleep. Just be super careful with coughing. Maybe you can take some metamucil to ease it...
  9. I am sorry to hear that. I hope that nothing major and you will be able to continue your journey with thw band.

    Horrible, horrible pain

I would suggest to take your pain-killer (opiod type- like oxycodon), maybe you just came off the pain med but you still need it to continue. If that does not relieve it, you may want to call the doctor's office and ask.
  11. It will go very quickly. After they take you to the op area, you will fall asleep and the next time you wake up you will be banded. You will be fine!

Today, on Day 2 I felt my belly started moving, and started to pass gas. Another joy of the day
  13. Just to let you know, on the first ten days of my preop diet I had 1400-1500 calories. Only onthe last 3-4 days could I stick to 1000cal. I still managed to loose 9lbs, tha last 5lbs came off the last 2 days. My surgeon was happy with the 9 lbs. Just get back on track as soon as you can, and get as close to 1000cal as you can and definitely eat tiny meals on your very last day pre-op!! You will be fine.

    surgery June 28th

My throat also did hurt, my voice was as if I had gone to a rock concert. Now, on day 2 postop it is almost normal. I think everybody got intubated, the rule for any abdominal surgery is to do anaesthesia. I used to work in an OR couple of years ago, I am sorry to brake the news to everybody ... My stomach also hurts, which means that I still need pain killers. After I take it, I can take deep breath, it is such a good feeling. I only had Water, apple and cranberry juice, broth and decaffeinated coffee as of now. I am looking forward to some variety. Have you guys started your Protein shakes on day2 yet??
  16. Downysoft, yes I was scheduled for overnight. The insurance company approved it as outpatient procedure, but the doc said that he likes keeping his patients for one nigh. Basically, he will state that it was medically necessary, and we hope that insurance covers it. I do not know, here they are extra careful, and wanted a barium swallow after surgery to confirm that there is no leak. Now, he decided to keep me for a second night because of bad hiccup. The good news is that my insurance covers inpatient procedures 100% until June 28th. Hugh, my surgery was on the 27th. From July 1st the coverage changes to 90% only. I hope I do not have to pay too much extra and I will be lucky. How are you doing?
  17. The restroom problem was solved after I turned on the Water in the sink next to me and I let it run. What a trick Because I started having bad hiccups, the doc decided that they will keep me for a second night. I did not mind. As my swallow test was good, I started drinking water and apple juice at 1pm. The physical therapist came and made me walk in the long hallways. I had a few more hiccups but no shoulder pain. It is also through that I took gasX, the chewable at 8am 11am and at 2pm. My belly feels like, I had a tight wide belt around it. I have some pain or soreness at my stomach. It is hard to explain if it is pain from the surgery or is caused by hunger. My right side is more sensitive, I guess because of the port. If try to stand up I try to use my left arm and not put wait on the right side. It is also true that I have not had pain medication since 1pm, then I was detached from the infusions. I had 120ml warm broth for dinner at 5pm, it felt really good but I feel still full even after 3 hours. Today I sat in a chair for 5 hours, it was doable. How is everybody else?

I am glad you made it through. I only had nausea when I stood up and when I started drinking, basically when the gas made me burp. Take the pain killer for the night, you need to rest.
  19. Thank you for the suggestion. Joy, I may still get the shoulder pain, I have not been walking much yet. They want to do a barium swallow test this morning, and. I can start drinking water only afterwards. My belly feels little bit more sore now than it was last night.
  20. Interestong development : I cannot produce urine although, my bladder is full. Catheter, yakl!
  21. Hi, I am officially banded. It went well. Surgery started mar 4.30, and they took me up to my room at 8.30pm. I am sore, I am surprised that the pain is not as bad, as it was for my wrist surgery. Tomorrow I will have a barium swallow test and can go home after 12pm
  22. Hi All, I am still working (from home). I will take a cab at 1pm to be there at 1.30pm. My "date" in the OR is at 3.30pm. I will be back home tomorrow and I will let you guys know how it went. Right now I have to meet this deadline at work.. Something to keep my mind off of worrying about this decision
