  1. Hi Kate' date=' how are you doing? Hope everything went well for you and your going ok. X[/quote']

    Hi Lauren,

How are you? I was going to message u over the weekend and check if you got my email I sent?

I'm recovering really well thanks! :) A little bit of gurgling and bubbling going on in my tummy but pretty good and just pain getting up and down. Managed a 30min walk this arvo which was nice to get out of the house into some fresh air! :) My hubby has been fantastic looking after the little one and me. Have been very lucky.

How are you feeling since the port was removed? Has the fill helped at all? Hope all is well! :)

  2. Girls, girls, girls!!

Well I'm currently laying here at the Avenue.. With a fairly big infection. : (

Waiting to have surgery on Monday morning first thing. Have been here since yesterday. My port is infected. They are going to remove my port for a bit then put it back in a couple of month once it's healed inside. So it just means that he won't be able to add Water to the band for a little bit. So just b4 he removes it he will add some more. The band will still work as normal. Will just mean an extra 2 surgeries. Hmmm not really ideal.. Kate if your wondering.. Yes I would still do it again. I just lucked out.

Hope your both doing great! Xox

    Hi Lauren,

How are you after Monday's surgery? Hope your feeling better and the infection has gone away. What a pain for you :( I guess you just needt o think it's a small speed bump in your journey and in a couple of months time you will be back cruising along! It's good they were still able to put some saline in before removing your port so you will still have some restriction. Did they know what caused the infection? Thank you for the positive feedback too your have a very positive mindset it'a really comforting! :)

A meet up would be good! I'm in carrum down. Could always meet halfway somewhere. Maybe The Glen?

    Take care of yourself :)

Hello to Susie if your out there! Been a while hope everythings going ok! :)

  3. Hi Kate & Sussie, haha your timing couldn't be any worse with that question. I just got anther infection. So not doing so great at the minute. Definitely not ideal but still happy I chose this journey. I had my first fill yesterday. Went well. I thought it might have hurt but it didn't. I think just the thought of a needle in your tummy really doesn't sound good. I did feel weird though.

Hope your getting excited Kate.. Not long to go for you know. If you want to ask any question by all means fire away. Or even happy to meet up with you if it makes you feel better about your decision.

Hope your doing well Sussie on your journey. Have you had your second fill? Hope everything is going well for you.

    X

Oh no not another infection you poor thing :( Did you end up back at the hosp? Hopefully it's all smooth sailing from now on! Congrats on the first fill too YAY! Did you notice any difference/tightening afterwards? I will be doing the look away with the needle I think lol like I normally do during blood tests! As you say though it's more the thought of a giant needle going into your stomach not the nicest of thoughts lol!

I'm feeling pretty good about the decision at the moment. I think I'm now worrying most about following a healthy diet and sticking to it forever. As my head is totally not in the right space at the moment and it really needs to be. Have you started solids yet? Another random question with drinking fluids eg. Water can you drink normally or is it just little sips?

A meet up would be nice too could help us keep on track and see where we are all at along our journey! We could work out somewhere central! :)

  4. I was banded in Feb 2010 and got pregnant with my son in November of 2010 (with my surgeons blessing. I had lost about 60lbs and my health had improved ten fold with my weight loss). Normally they say about a year' date=' because they want you to be able to get to your goal weight and maintain, and have any other health issues you might have improve/stabilize. So I was about 8 months post op. I am almost 3 years out now and we are hoping to try for our last baby in about a month or two :) Then this mama can focus on getting some plastic work done :D[/quote']

How have you gone maintaining your weight over the last three years?

  5. Thanks for the replies guys! :) I don't get banded till the 30th of this month. Would love to have a second bubba and currently know it won't be till I lose this extra weight. I ended up with a disc bulge and pelvic instability after my first pregnancy and know my best chances of not having that pain again is getting rid of this weight!

  6. Hi Kate & Sussie' date='

Merry Christmas to you both also!! We did have a lovely Christmas.. Hope you guys also had a lovely Christmas.

Hmmm! I don't want to scare you Kate, but I ended up back in hospital.. : (.

I got some sort of infection. I was on pain of Friday night and went back into hospital on the Sat morning. They had no idea what was wrong and I had to stay in until Monday morning. So all our Christmas plans went out the window. But in saying that I'm not bitter about it at all. It just happened and I'm still happy i've had it. It was actually good for my partner to have the kids for 2 nights by himself. I think if it were planned he would have been like ummm not sure I could do this. ( Mainly because I was still feeding my little man over night. ) which because I was away for 2 nights I've been able to wean him... Aaannnnd. Lol last night he slept right through the night and that hasn't happened since he was like 3 months old. So good actually came out or it for me.

I was a week post on Monday. I went for my first 5k walk this morning with a friend. It was tough.. But I made it. I think it took us about 5 mins longer.. I'm about 5kgs down. I stopped taking my pain relief about 2 days ago. I did take lots of endone.. Still on antibiotics though. I'm not eating much. I had mainly soup... But I've had some mash potato with a bit of finley chopped chicken and gravy and I had some fish last night. That's all so far. That was pretty easy to eat. I do wish I could drink faster though. I normally guzzle my Water. I just have to learn to sip.

I chose day surgery mainly because of my kids.. Once your in there they give you a book to read.. It explains a lot. It also tells you that day surgery is better for you mentally. I do agree with that. I am happy that I did day.. I went in at 6.30am and was done at 11.45ish and left at about 5.30pm. I was up walking about an hour or so afterwards. I just walked the ward about 10 times. ( not at once! Over the time i was there ) I didn't feel like doing it but i knew it was best and I'm happy that I did.

That's good your husband can take time off. I think 2 days should be fine. You will definitely need him day 1 and will be nice to have him day 2. Just make sure you take it easy when your little man does. But they also want you to keep moving. I'm enjoying my nana naps. Lol. : D it is reasonably quick recovery. It was a bugger that I got an infection. But It did help me at the same time.

Sussie, I hope that it all starts to calm down for you now! Also what Kate said.. Who won?? Lol.

Hope your both doing well. X[/quote']

Hey! Sorry to hear your Christmas was spent in hospital :( That would have sucked but at least you were being looked after and getting the best care possible. Your thinking very positive too about if all which is great too. I will try not to freak out lol! ;) I'm sure little infections are probably a common thing. I'm glad your feeling better now though! :) And fantastic news about your son sleeping through!!! :)))) Enjoy! I LOVE my nana naps lol! I hope my son has them up till he starts school or I will spend my days sleep walking after him lol! ;)

The Water drinking slowly is going to be hard for me too I love gulping it down too. I'm also a drinker with food especially bread as I get the hiccups after one mouthful lol! Gonna be interesting! Probably eating slower will help with that! :)

We are trying to do a massive declutter around the house this week and start the new year all fresh and positive. New year new me! (very cliche but hey!) Currently boxing up my sons old clothes, geez has he got a large wardrobe of clothes in such a small amount of time! ;) Our roof is going to be full of clothes lol! :)

Well done on the walkies too! It will only get easier for you from now on! :)

P.S. I'm using my phone and it says I used rolling eyes as a smiley face lol! It was meant to be just a nice smiley face ooops lol! Gotta get used to those emoticons lol! :)

  7. Hi Kate, I've been meaning to ask how did you get on catching up with your friend that has already been banded. You were going to ask her a million questions.. Hope you got the answers you were looking for. Lauren

    Hey Lauren!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you! Hope you had a lovely day with your family!

Sorry I haven't been on in while I have had trouble logging on. I finally worked out by right clicking the sign in box I can get it lol! grrrr  How are you feeling? Are you onto mushies now? Hope your cruising along now and pain free!

I did end up catching with my friend last week. Was really reassuring talking to her and getting some more info. I'm feeling heaps more confident it's the right way to go for me too. She has been banded for 6yrs and has done so well. I think she said she was around 150kg and is now sitting on 75 and feels fantastic.

I'm booked in for the 30th Jan. Not sure weather to just do a day surgery or overnight at this stage. How did you go with the day surgery? My hubby is going to take a few days off work to help with looking after me and my son. Very lucky to have him! :)

Have you got much planned for New Years? If I don't hear from you before then have a wonderful New Years! Good luck on your journey in 2013!

OMG!!!!! Work is horrible, so busy and im sick of asking if peeps want tarts or chrissie cakes and rolls in paper or plastic! Honestly the only thing we dont ask is would you like fries with that!

Im 3 weeks out or 21 days. I got my fill on wednesday which was fine. I lost 5kg in the first week. I asked him how big our pouch is and he said only enough to hold a teaspoon cos i said i was confused by the book, so thats why we have to wait between bites. I also asked him what i could eat at work when im starving and he said some nuts, tried it thursday night cos we closed at 9:30pm and it worked. I asked him if i could see the dietician but he said he doesnt place a big emphasis on it, but im so out of ideas on food that im borred with food and i need to understand this band as my last one i could almost eat a full size meal. And plus WE have paid a massive amount to get this after care its even in the book and description of fees.

Oh the duetion helen something, cant remember her last name has a web site that has recipes that i would have never thought of. It doesnt have cals but the only bad thing in some is oil for the pan which spray could subsitute.

Apart from that in the middle of the night im hungry and i have a bottle if Water on my bed side table i have a few skulls and tell myself im full. Im down just over 10kg. With my last band it took me about a year to loose that. So now my depression has gone. And im below 110kg in a while so im pretty happy!

Hope everyone is going well, including the chrissie shopping!!!! Ive got in my head what im going to eat for chrissie lunch, but my brother just told me that i put a 2 cent bet on that my 18 month old nephew will eat 3 times more than me!!!!!!! And im 32!! Hey at least unlike everyone else we wont put on chrissie weight!!! I used to use it as an excuse!!!

Anyways another essay from me, the myans got it wrong, we are still here the world didnt end! Someone will get it right one day!!! Have a fantastic night and even better weekend and i wish everyone a wonderful christmas!!

    Hi Susie,

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope things have settled down at work for you now! Gotta love the world of retail! We went to the boxing day sales today lol didn't last long though way too many people for my liking!

How was your Christmas lunch with your family? Did your nephew eat more than you in the end? hehe ;)

Well done on the 10kg loss that's fantastic! You must be feeling a difference in your clothes and how you are feeling already.

Hope you have a Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best of luck in 2013!

  8. Hey Susie!

The Easter challenge sounds good! :)

I will be a late starter but would still be a good first goal to push towards! What would a rough weekly weightloss be once banded?

P.S. I LOVE those humpty dumpty smartie egggggs! We used to always get them as kids lol! Yummmm :))))

Hope your having a good weekend everyone! :) I'm off for a nana nap now been up since 5am for work erggghh!

  9. It's Lauren : )

I am ready!. I just want my journey to start.. I wanted to be skinny and healthy years ago... Lol impatient much? Lol. I know it will be challenging over the Christmas period.. but I feel like their will never be the best time to have it done.. So no time like the present.

I know of a couple of people that had it done and hands down they said they would do it again in a heart beat. With reading Professor O'Briens book and i watched his seminar and the 8 golden rules' date=' googled lots and have read lots of stories on here I feel pretty comfortable with it all. I love to read other people journeys and how much they have lost plus seeing b4 and after photos . It's pretty inspiring. In saying that I did also make sure that I read people's journeys that haven't gone so well. I don't want to go in with rose colour glasses.

Funny you say your son is now 19 months... I always have to think about it. I think I was telling everyone my son was 16 months for like 3 months. Lol it wasn't until I counted the months I'm like um now hang on he is.... Lol. Actually now I think about it, my little man is 19 months I think I first said 20 months to you.. Lol. I think we are as bad as each other. My little man was born in May. Lol

I've actually also decided not to tell many people. I've told my younger sister and a couple of friends. My older sister talked me out of doing this 12 months ago as she thought is was a drastic move. I do wish that I hadn't listened to her as I would be well on my journey. Also not telling my mum. But she is coming to Melb to stay on Wednesday for nights for my daughters dance concert so I'm guessing she will find out then. Lol I will only be day 3 so I don't think I can hide it. I don't want to have to explain myself to people as to why I'm having it.

Try not to over think the process! Just try and read lots of people's stories and make sure you understand how is works.. Very happy to chat to you after I have mine done.. And let you know exactly what happens. The more you check out this forum the more you will feel comfortable as everyone or everyone I have come across are very supportive I don't think there is a question that you can't ask.. Enjoy your night. : )[/quote']

Hey Lauren and everyone else out there! :) You can call me Kate also! :)

Just wanted to wish you all the very best of luck tomoro! :) Hope it's a speedy recovery for you! I read that you have had your gallbladder removed and had two c-sections. Lol I've had both aswell! They say the gallbladder is one of the most painful surgeries so hopefully this will be a breeze!

Sounds like you are definately in the right headspace which is fantastic! :) I am going to catch up with a friend I know tomoro who had the banding done in 2006. She also had it done in glen iris. I have a massive list of questions for her lol the poor girl! ;) All the ones I forgot to ask in my appointment! I am starting to feel a little more settled and confident with my decision. I followed your advice and have been searching through the forums and googling as much info I can get my hands on. Thanks for that! :) And like yourself I am not going to let many people know until I am ready. As I can't stand hearing everyone's opinions!! Pretty similar to when you have yout first baby! Everybody has an opinion on why and what you are doing!

Lol my little boy is also a May baby born on the 2nd! :) I still blame baby brain for my shocking memory..... & pretty much everything else too lol! ;)

    GOOOOOOD LUCK TOMORO! :)

  10. Welcone sk8!!!! If you have any any questions about before during and after we are all here for you. Lapband is the safest and only reviseable surgery' date=' like i wanted mine out cos it was placed wrong so no matter what fill i had i was always chucking. 18 months ago after i got it taken out i never thought i would want it again. But i no it works and at least melb has such a great parnrship and the docs let you know in advance what they expect from the start till the rest of your life which i never got in hobart or geelong. Were you given the blue book that also has a dvd 8 golden rules? Watch the dvd and a couple chapters of the book, my mums friend got stomach stapling and she lost tons of weight then over a couple years gained close to 50kg back. And last year her staples burts and she was very nearlly dead from all the gut juices going every were and she was in icu for a while. In my first visit with mr burton i told him a band would be good but i asked him is there a better one you think i should have? I know the sleeve stretches and after a while not good.

We must all be 32 here!!!! Thats a long wait till january!!! I had just under 2 weeks to wait and that seemed like forever!! Ask us anything from basically never going to the loo to never being able to take part in burping compitions!![/quote']

Hi Skuzzie! Thanks for the reply really appreciate it! :)

Lol cant belive we are all 32yrs old! :)

How long ago did you get yours redone? My heads a little everywhere at the moment so sorry if I jump all over the place with my reply! :)

I'm worried about being sick all the time. Lol im worried my Mum will find out too haha yes at 32 I still worry what my Mum thinks lol! ;) She thinks it's not good to mess with your body like this. Especially after seeing my Aunty go through stomach stapling and a some bowel operation and all the issues she has now from it all.... she's skinny but not happy and not well! But i know lapbanding isnt as intrusive as those others surgeries and is reversible. But still i am messing about with my body! Did mr burton say that the band was best for you and long term would it still be ok? Sounds terrible what happened to your Mums friend I hope they are ok now.

I have battled my weight issues for 17yrs now aswell as depression. Things are getting worse not better and i just want to be able to give my son and husband a happy mother and wife and be happy myself not waking up hating myself everyday! I would love to look in the mirror and love what I see oneday.

Sorry for the long winded reply :)

  11. Hi SK8' date='

No, I was about 5 weeks ago on a tues though.. Lol. With Professor O'Brien.

My surgery date is on Monday.. Aww! Lol Actually I'm doing pretty well with my decision. I know its going to be a huge lifestyle change. I just was the end result so much that I don't really have second thoughts. This is for my kids as much as it is for me..

Good on you for making that step. Funny enough I was meant to be in late January and I asked if by chance I could get in earlier to get it out the way and lucky for me I could.. and as my partner is on holidays and I will have help.

Also 32 here and I have a 4 year old daughter and a 20month old son. And eastern suburbs here.

Hopefully after Monday I can be more helpful to you..

Definitely happy to keep in touch..[/quote']

    Hey lozjacko!

    Thanks for the reply! :)

You sound like you are very ready for it! I look forward to hearing how your surgery/progress goes after Monday! :)

I had a choice of getting it done on the 20th of dec but chose the later date due to everything being so crazy with christmas! Although my hubby is also on holidays round this time so it probably would have been a good thing!

Lol my son is actually 19mths old not 18mths was half asleep last night when writing! :)

I think i am worrying about something going wrong the most and having ongoing issues after the op. Ahhh I dont know! Sorry a little all over the place at the moment! So many thoughts flying round my head! :)

  12. Hi Lozjacko!

Not long to go now for you! :)

Were you at the Glen Iris clinic on Tuesday by any chance? I had an appointment there with Mr Stewart Skinner. I have booked myself in for late January. I'm freaking out whether I am making the right decision or not though. In two minds at the moment and its making me sick to my stomach! Would love to keep in touch and see how you are going with it all! I'm 32 and have an 18mth old son. I live in the sth eastern suburbs. Look forward to hearing from you :)
