    January 2013 Bandsters Unite

Hi everyone! I was anticipating a liquid diet before my January 28 surgery, however after my preop support group meeting I learned I don't have to do one. Does anyone else not have a liquid diet? Does anyone think I should do one a week before anyway? I'm a bit confused
  2. First off I must say this forum is terrific! Such a supportive place! I'm having surgery on the 28th and was wondering if anyone has advice on what I should have in order to prepare for after surgery and the rest of my new life:). I know all the medical stuff I was wondering more about kitchen stuff and other things that worked (small plates, juicer, etc).

    January 2013 Bandsters Unite

It's so frustrating believe me I know. I began my process two years ago only to be denied by insurance because as they said "I gained weight on purpose". I'm 26 and went as far to contact my pediatrician to provide documents of weight struggles since I was 8 and the medical noted I need for weight watchers numerous times because I was so young going to weight watchers. Yet I purposely gained weight..... I gave up. Being a person who does struggle from depression and a panic disorder I tell u this with my every being..... Do not give up this fight is worth it... I did my insurance required 6 month diet figuring the time will pass anyway so why not? Low and behold this time I was approved.. Surgery is the 28th and I can't believe it... My advice is to continue w supervised diet and seek another doctor for the psych eval. Being nervous is normal and if u are depressed the. U do need to address that, but I have depression am on depression meds as well as anxiety meds and I'm good to go. You are worth it this is worth it... Keep going, seems as though the issue is w insurance. And why would u pay for copay if surgery isn't guaranteed that's a no go.... Stay strong Also, the hospital I will be having my surgery in told me that the ECG , blood test and upper gi X-ray have to been done 10 days prior to surgery so maybe that's why uve had to do it twice.... Stay strong
  4. Wow thanks so much for your detailed post! I'm so worried about the pain afterwards especially the gas pain that I really needed to hear that detail experience...is it ok to sleep? Or do u need to be walking around? The only thing I'm really worried about is how I will be with pain the first week after surgery...I hope u have a healthy and speedy recovery in the new year! Thanks again!!
  5. Well it's good to hear ur up and walking! Congrats on surgery I hope I have a speedy recovery and a wonderful new year:)
  6. Do you have a heating pad? I haven't been banded yet but many of the posts say that the heating pad helped them . Did u get pain meds?
  7. Congrats on being banded! I'm scheduled for the 28th.... Why was it rough?!?!?

    Congrats! How's the diet going?
  10. Hi everyone! I am scheduled for surgery on the 28th of jan after my 6 month diet required by insurance. I was told I will be going to the hospital before my surgery so they can do preop testing. I know she said an EKG but I can't remember if she said anything else. I will take the results and get cleared from my primary doctor. My questions is what is the preop at the hospital going to entail? Is it just an EKG? Can anyone please explain this process as I am very nervous lol. Thanks

    Pre-op testing?

That's all? I'm like worried that this is another hurdle which I could be denied for surgery after even though I have my surgery date

It will be a yes! And we can stay in touch... I'm worried about the pain after the surgery I couldn't careless about the food and the different way of eating. I mean to say of course I will follow the rules but I feel so mad at food because I abused it..so I guess I'm mad at myself.. Well a new me begins the 28th ! I've never been more excited... I also got a no because at the time I had a bmi of 37 now it's 41.3 and I'm 25. But here's to the new us in 2013!!!

    Finally!!!!

Tyas, Hang in there! Last week I was you. In fact 4 days ago I was waiting too!! Everyone says that the liquid diet is hard but the waiting game is hard too. I applied for Lapband in 2011 to be denied by insurance who actually stated that I, the patient, have purposefully gained weight! I've been on and off weight watchers since I was literally 9! Defeated and sad I have up. This past June I received a call from the doctors office saying I should try again because some of the rules have changed. This time I did the 6 month diet ( last time I tried to skip the insurance required 6 month diet). I wrote a thread about how I felt sad and was struggling waiting for insurance and surprise!! The next day or 2 days after my doctors office called, they said Santa had forgotten one more gift!! Lol... I needed to get my story off my chest because I feel like a champion!! I will be getting married In August to a wonderful man who has been there for my up and down weights and my denial and approval through insurance! This is my year and I start January 28th when I get banded! I'm ready... Hang in there everyone in this site is here for you!

  16. Hi guys! I've been posting a few threads here and there but have a few questions. Is there a ridiculous amount of pain after surgery? Also, is or was hair loss an issue for everyone? I'm having surgery January 28th and getting married August 31 so I'm just wondering about this stuff! Thanks its really awesome reading everyone's posts and experiences... Also concerned with being nauseous or stuck feeling can I avoid this by following the rules?

    Finally!!!!

Congrats!!! I just bought chewable vitamins lol Im going to find shakes I like next. I did find EAS was good but I was thinking maybe a powder would last longer any suggestions?
  19. I also should say that the best way to diet for me is being restricted. I had trouble with weight watchers because I was given such an array of food choices. It prob doesn't help how I love carbs but I'm ready for a new me and a new relationship with food. I look forward to food not controlling me but simply being there as the protein and nourishment I need, not controlling me and worrying about being satisfied with small portions. I'm so excited for this change!!!!
  20. Thanks everyone! I'm def going to start biotin I have about a month till surgery are there anythings I should stock my house up with? I've read some of your posts about heating pad and gas x ..any suggestions?
