  1. What you're going through is pretty normal. We call it bandster hell, because you have no fills and don't feel any different yet are expected to eat like a bandster. It's very difficult.

Keep in mind the first 4-6 weeks are for healing, so don't be overly concerned about the scale. Just try to be patient because as long as you're eating band sized portions and watching your calories, the loss will come, it just may take a couple fills before the band starts to diminish your hunger for you.

    Best wishes.

I needed to hear this as well. Thank you for saying this. I was banded 12/20 and I've lost 24 pounds overall but all but about 6-8 of that was pre-surgery! I feel like I can eat anything I want too and I'm also ALWAYS hungry. My first fill is 2/11. Trying to hang in there until then!! :) Love this site!

  2. I was banded on 12/20, and am still in a lot of pain. Not sure if I over did and am paying the price, or this is how it goes. Maybe I just don't have a high threshold for pain...

I was 12/20 also and I ran out of pain meds on Christmas Day. I have thought about calling for a refill but just keep thinking I'm being a wimp. Ibuprofen is just making my stomach crampy (which is bad on top of an already sore abdomen!) You are not alone.

  3. For those of you who have had the stuck feeling....do you wait a bit to see if it passes or automatically try to make yourself throw up? I am terrible at trying to make myself throw up but I tried and failed. Now I'm kind of waiting and drinking a lot of Water. Thoughts?

  4. Nooooo!!! LOL! The days of focusing on food are gone' date=' except for when thinking up new and fun ways to enjoy eating as per our guidelines! Look at some Soup recipes online and think of ways to make some enjoyable Soups to have during the full-liquid phase. I mapped everything out as per my doc and nutritionalist. I can send you my list if you'd like! It's like a map of when and how I can eat. My surgery was yesterday and recovery as been great thus far! You got this, girl!!! :)[/quote']

I would love to see your list!!! My surgery is tomorrow!! Woot!!

  5. So the craziest thing about this liquid diet is that I'm not usually physically hungry. When I get hungry, I drink a shake and it really does curb my appetite. I just find myself dreaming of eating things. Someone will make a statement like "going to grab a bite to eat and then I'll be there" and I just think "wow....eating. How nice." I never thought I was an emotional eater but I have now definitely realized how eating and food have filled a void for me. After several weeks on a liquid diet all of my former bad habits will be broken and when I start on solids again, it will be like relearning how and what to eat!!!! Just can't let myself be tempted by any of the bad habits so they don't become habits again!!!

This has been deep thoughts by Molly. :P

  6. Holly, I totally agree on the cooking for the family thing. My husband is FABULOUS and is doing almost all of the cooking, but the house still smells amazing. I drink my shakes and I don't feel physically hungry I just want to EAT SOMETHING with resistance! Not Jello or broth! HA!

AGNP, I agree with you! I always overeat at social gatherings! By the time I'm ready to eat solids again, I will have been on liquid or full liquid for 4 weeks. I think that is more than enough time to break the bad habits!!!! Now, we just have to not allow ourselves to get into those habits again! :)

  7. I agree with the others. The first few days is definitely the hardest. You should definitely call your surgeon/nutritionist though because from what I've seen on here, there are very few surgeons whose diets are the same. Mine is liquid diet.....6 Bariatric Advantage shakes a day plus Water, sugar free Jello, low sodium broths, sugar free popsicles, or sugar free flavored drinks. Nothing can be over 10 calories besides the shakes and I can only have 160 additional calories on top of the shakes. Mine is 14 days and today is day 7. Like the others said, days 1-4 are pretty lousy. The good news is you kind of get a second wind after your body goes through ketosis and then it is better. I was really spacy the first few days too. Kept calling my son the dog's name, that kind of thing! HA! Good luck!

  8. I'll say I agree. I purposely scheduled mine when I did. It allowed me to still eat a normal Thanksgiving dinner before I started the pre-op diet. Christmas dinner has never been a huge deal for us... we open gifts on Christmas Eve (except for Santa - he doesn't come until that night so kids have to wait for morning) so everyone is more focused on that' date=' then getting to church for the midnight candlelight service. My mom is the only one in my family who knows I'm doing this & she's arranging it where I'll end up sitting at the kids' table. None of them will notice how I'm eating, LOL. I'll start the new year off with my pretty little "belt" on, ready to kick some poundage boo-tay. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

You crack me up. And I agree. I'm sitting here getting blood work right now and having my preop and everyone has said "oh. December 20! Won't that be awful with Christmas?!" And I'm thinking, "I'll be on pain meds when with the family on Christmas, I think YOU'RE the crazy one!" :)

  9. Hello. I am new to the discussion. I am on day5 of the preop diet and man oh man this is truly complex. My first three days were miserable but know it is getting better but my mind wants all kinds of things. So during this phase I am training my mind to eat healthy and prepping for my new life. Surgery is December 18.

MercedesRed! My surgery is December 20 and I am with Dr. McEwen too!!! I'm on day 5 and you're right! Hard! The hardest is when the whole family is eating something that I want and the whole house smells so good!!! I actually had a little more energy today than in previous days! :)

  10. I felt really tired the first few days, today is day 5 and it is the first day I've actually had energy. I even went on a 2 mile walk tonight. I'm drinking Protein Shakes, Water, sugar free Jello and broth. Only hard times are when the whole family is eating something I want and the house smells amazing! I'd say, if you are tired, make sure you're getting enough nutrition and if you are, then rest whenever you can! Good luck! When is your surgery?
