  1. I sometimes break mine up in my morning smoothie or protein shake
  2. During my 6 month diet required by my insurance, I ate 5-6 times a day. I was never hungry and drank at least 64 oz of Water. I drank one Protein shake a day at the most, Breakfast: 7 am 1 hard boiled egg and a piece of string cheese snack: 9 am 2 turkey sausages (like a slim jim) Lunch: 12 pm 3-4 oz chicken breast, salad with a little vinegar and oil snack: Protein Shake or no sugar applesauce Dinner: Turkey Chili and a non starchy Vegetable. snack: sugar free Jello. I mixed up my Proteins to add different flavors. swithed it up, walked everyday and I lost 30 lbs before surgery and the surgery wasn't bad at all. I only felt bad for a couple of days.
  3. Are you exercising too? I'm walking and riding my bike a couple of times a day. even when I had little or no energy during the liquid post op phase. Sounds Like you are getting plenty of protein. I would discus with your Nut what you are eating. Good Luck
  4. I pre-op by almost a couple of weeks.. I need suggestions for the best tasting Lactose free dairy items? Yogurt, cottage cheese etc. Thanks in advance!

    Pain

I was able to cut my pain meds in half and take each half one at a time, I only needed pain meds for about 2 days after surgery for the incision pain. I used a small pillow to gently press against my sore belly when getting out of bed or out of my chair, get plenty of walks in during the day, I did 6 short walks a day. Good Luck
  6. Geesh! BP needs a drama forum for some people...Joking...
  7. I had my first follow up appt with Surgeon today... Didn't think I was going to make it, had bathroom issues most of the morning, I had no sugar applesauce for Breakfast and it started the flood gates open. haha. It stopped after the third time. Dr says it was probably caused by the applesauce, The first "natural sugars" I've had in 3 weeks, by body took it out of the system fast! It sure did, He told me to expect this for the next few weeks. I guess this is natural? I start pureed foods soon. I cannot wait to chew on something! down 30lbs since the start of my pre-op that started Aug16th. unreal!
  8. I was wondering the same thing! I had about a 1/4 cup of thin oatmeal and no sugar applesauce today. never had a problem, but if I drink too much protein shake I feel pressure..
  9. I cannot wait until I don't have to drink shakes! SO sick of them! I'm only a week out...I'm so ready to chew on something. haha
  10. I had the VSG surgery yesterday Aug 30th, Everything went well, I woke up feeling pretty good except for the incisions. I've been sipping Water and eating small amounts of Jello. Every once in a while I have a little spasm in my stomach, and very minimal gas pains.

    SURGERY DONE

Thanks everyone! I've had a pretty good recovery, other than incision pain (which is getting handled by Tylenol) I admit that I didn't know what quite to expect, but I haven't really been nauseous at all, I do have meds if needed, not yet. But I do have a temp running about 99.7, it hasn't gotten any higher than that. Feeling pretty darn good. Today I did about 50 grams of protein and close to 64oz of water, ALL I do is sip sip sip! BEST OF LUCK to all of you on your journey!
  12. Keep up the sipping, I am doing walking every couple of hours between naps... NO more pain meds for me today. Just water and protein shakes. I'm still a little gassy, but when that happens it feels good. Haha

    Non supportive spouse

My spouse wasn't to supportive last year and it was one the reasons I didn't get it done then, I finally made the selfish decision to do it my way..... MY wife finally came around to support me, since my kids and friends were being very supportive she fell into line! HAHA. All you need is a friend to take you back and forth from the hospital. I told my wife she was either with me or I would find a friend to support me. (it was a HUGE decision, since I have a tendency to putting other people besides me first)

  17. My surgeon's dietician had me eating 5 to 6 times a day for 6 months, high Protein, low carbs. I lost 45 lbs in six months. Example: Breakfast: one hard boiled egg with one turkey sausage snack: string cheese Lunch: Half of a chicken breast and small salad without dressing snack: Turkey snack bites ( sometimes I would do a Protein shake instead ) supper: Chicken breast or fish with green Beans (frozen ones) snack: sugar free Jello PLENTY of Water, I gave up soda and caffeine almost two years ago. I was never hungry eating 5 to 6 times a day. GOOD LUCK, you can do this!
  18. I'm on my 8th day of my pre-op liquid diet, I have been pretty much regular, but today I've been to the bathroom 3 times in 3 hours! pretty loose movements (sorry not trying to be gross) anybody else experience that? Hopefully it will go away!

    Advice needed

My wife wasn't to happy with my decision on having surgery a year ago, I cancelled that surgery. THIS time around she is very supportive, SHE knows I need this tool, I am not very active, not by choice but by limited mobility, I've had 4 different knee surgeries and can only walk for exercise. NO treadmills, stair climbing etc. My weight has been as high as 370 lbs to as low as 240 when we were married. It took some time for my wife to come around with the realization that I need to do something for myself. Please discus every possibility with your future and current health with your spouse. Communication is key to getting your spouses support! plus my kids 17,13 and 11 are very supportive too! GOOD LUCK! I'm having my surgery on the 30th of Aug.

  25. The Doctor has me taking Glucerna shakes ( chocolate, vanilla and strawberry) 5 X a day with half of scoop of Protein powder, and as much Water as I want plus broth and sugar free Jello. So far, other than a mild headache I am doing great. When the family eats dinner I go for a walk or go outside. Good Luck you got this, I am only on day 3 of the pre-op liquid diet.
