    Sleeve vs. other surgeries

I chose the sleeve over bypass too, The reasoning was about the same as JamieLogicals too. Except I didn't have to self-pay. I am also off my Diabetic meds and no longer a diabetic, it took about a week out of surgery to become diabetic free, I no longer take BP meds only a acid-reducer and seasonal allergy meds. I eat 5-6 times a day, I am never hungry. My surgery was Aug 30th and today is the 1/24 and I have lost almost 90lbs and only have about 30 to go! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DECISION!
  4. Help! I have had to have a couple of Iron Infusions a month or so ago, The doctor and nut want me to take Iron supplements again. I tried Gentlesorb (GNC) for the first week it was going ok, taking them every other day to get used to them. But then I started to have the same stomach issues. Pain and nausea. I've tried at least 18 different brands of Iron and now trying a chewable version I received from the Bariatric Pal Store. If cannot get enough Iron in my system it looks like I'll have more infusions. I eat plenty of foods with Iron in them, but I just can't get enough!

    Iron

yes I do, I eat Beans, Kale chips, Spinach and red meats, I've always had anemia but since the surgery it got worse. My hemoglobin was down to 25, after the infusions it was 52. I couldn't tell the difference in how I felt.. I felt fine with low count, I was usually at 35.I just made myself some beans from scratch. Soaking 'em, fussing over 'em, the works. M mmmm good. In my bean research I discovered that black beans have a high RDA of Iron than other types of beans, 25% vs 15%. Would this help? Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App I'll try making them from scratch too. Thanks.
  6. I didn't weigh myself every week (I waited until my post op appointments) and just concentrated on the task at hand of eating right and getting my exercise in. Losing will come, everyone is different.

  8. I took Mucinex Cold and congestion liquid. It really helped me. Tylenol Cold didn't work for me.

    Gastric Bypass using Robot

I had the sleeve in August with the Davinci. (robot) My surgery only took about 45 mins. My doctor says it is very precise and is the only way he prefers to do any type of surgery. MY recovery was pretty quick and I only had minor incision pain. I think I only took pain meds for 2 days after surgery. GOOD LUCK!

    Advice needed

Why would YOU feel disrespected? I wasn't aware that someone else's choices related to being healthy have anything to do with you? You have different bodies, different life experience. Just curious.I feel like he's cheating the process of losing the weight, like he just needs to work harder or needs to find more will power to correct his diet. He gets jealous of my achievement and wants the same thing right now. I feel like him doing it by surgical means would diminish how hard I had to work at losing the weight. I don't feel he at all meets the medical criteria that I would recommend this to a patient. Why would YOU feel disrespected? 19. Are you getting in plenty of water? During my pre-op I felt bad on day 3 or 4, but it seemed to get better with more water intake. Just my opinion. What are you supposed to be doing for your pre-op diet? all liquids? shakes?

4 days post op and feel great.

I felt pretty darn good after my surgery on Aug 30th. Just incision pain. NO nausea, vomiting or problems getting liquids down. I feel lucky! I'm eating pretty good now, Hard Boiled egg for breakfast, cheese stick for morning snack, tuna salad for lunch, protein shake for afternoon snack and vegetable soup with chicken for dinner yesterday. Good luck to you all.
  21. GOOD LUCK! I'm sure you'll do fine. The worst part is the first couple of days, walk, sip and stay hydrated. Everyday after surgery gets better. I'm about 19 days out and doing really well.

    This sucks

walk, walk, walk, walk...IT helps! the more I walked the better the sipping.. I used a 10ml medicine cup for the first couple of days, the gas pains will probably go away soon, mine lasted only a couple of days after surgery.
  24. It is different for everyone, I was in the hospital for about 30 hours total. I was able to sip water all day long (about a shot glass at a time, every 15 mins.) it took me to day 3 to start protein shakes and I alternated between water and protein shakes. I did get in 50grams of protein on the third day. NOW I am getting in 64 oz of and 70 grams of protein a day and I about 18 days out of surgery. Early on ALL i did was sip sip sip. Good Luck.
