no problem, I don't know about the sleeve but we all have similar problems and concerns. I want everyone to be successful no matter what type of surgery they have.

    Drinks

Wyler's peach tea, pink lemonade, all sugar free
  4. I believe sugar is addictive as some drugs. I have to avoid sugary foods altogether. My weight gain was due to eating gallons of ice cream and anything with sugar. since being banded and gaining more control I seldom eat sugar I had diabetes for years . My A1C has been normal since a few months after my surgery,
  5. hey Cheryl Most of us old bandsters don't post much anymore . I check in sometimes to see if any of the old crowd is still here. Glad to see you are doing well. love animal rescue. we have a rescue dog that my husband brought home after some idiot dumped him in the woods by our house, he was just a puppy. he is my husband's best friend and I believe he helped my husband recover from open heart surgery and a lot of other heath issues including esophageal cancer Bless you for taking care of the animals.

    New food favs over time

I am still in love with chicken Tortilla Soup from Chick Fil A . 260 calories of goodness and good Protein source. I don't miss Pasta, bread or soda. I am trying to maintain my loss and hope to get to my goal soon. I still love coffee and eat fish more often too. Wendy's chili is also a good band food if you are out and need to eat...

Jim I am so sorry to hear about your brother in law's death. Life is truly never easy and you all will be in my prayers. Even though we have had weight loss surgery it doesn't change our response to tragedy or trouble. I also had several tragic events in my life in the last few years since surgery and it was a struggle some days to stay focused on my health. Taking care of our children sometimes is also a life long thing for most of us. My children have been pretty self sufficient but there have been times when they needed our help. That is what parents do. After losing two of our children I keep the others close. Take Care and Congratulations to you both on becoming healthy.

    ANOTHER YEAR!

I was thinking today the same thing, this will be my 2nd New Year since being banded. It is so wonderful not to be worried about another diet and what new diet program would try. I will be making food for our annual "pig roast" New Years party at a neighboring farm. I make a great coconut cake and usually a corn casserole . This year I will make the cake too but will probably take something healthier that I can eat. Not going to fret about it and just enjoy the day. We are supposed to have sunny and 70 deg Happy New Year and Healthier Year to everyone

    2015 New Year Resolutions

New Year New beginning, Get back to healthier eating, Holidays are brutal . Get to my goal and maintain it. possibly have TT or Panni. Go on cruise to Alaska. Look great for my granddaughters wedding. concentrate on more exercise and drink more Water.
  10. B52 you are the poster boy for lapband success. You have been a motivating force on this forum for me and others. I know I also had diabetes and I feel so liberated now that I no longer have any of the co-morbidities I had before surgery. You are proof that we can control our own health. My mother and sister died from complications of diabetes and I decided to change the cycle in my family. Getting lapband surgery was the smartest thing I have ever done for myself. Happy New Year my friend. Thanks for all of your help .
  11. I absolutely had lapband surgery to save my life . Health is so important at this point in my life . I was diabetic, had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. after surgery I no longer have any of those problems.. I do look good as well and I am happy that I get compliments on my appearance but that is not the only reason I had surgery. my mobility was becoming more of a problem as well. I can now walk as fast as my teenage granddaughters. All in All most weight loss patients want to feel better and look better there is nothing wrong with that.

Happy Holidays Everyone. I hope everyone has a healthy and Happy new year . Got a nutribullet from my daughter and I made a Protein shake for lunch yesterday with strawberry' and banana and Protein powder (eas) . I was able to eat a balanced dinner without over doing it. However I warned my family that I did not want to talk about diets or food during Holidays. We had a wonderful day and are heading to Pensacola to visit with our daughter and family for a few day.

To Band or not to Band?

We all had reasons for choosing the WLS that we had. I chose the lapband because it is not invasive. My recovery was easy and I have had no complications. As a 66 year old woman I did not want to face a major surgery such as sleeve or bypass. Both are successful but I did not want the loss of part of my stomach or re-routing my intestines . There are drawbacks to every surgery. The lapband is not for sissies. If you are not ready to change your outlook or addiction to food it may not be for you. I can only tell you my experience. First of all you must follow up with your Surgeon and Staff, including the nutritionist. You also should join a support group. There are so many reasons why people are obese and part of it is mental. Make sure you are mentally healthy enough to undergo the loss of your love affair with food. I still can eat what I want, however it's easier to avoid temptation and to overeat. My band tells me when I have had enough to eat and I follow my Doctors orders.. No carbonation, no straws, No drinking with meals. Basically I eat Protein, veg's and some fruit. I try to stay away from potatoes, bread or Pasta.. I can eat steak, chicken, pork, all within reason. I will tell you I have not been this healthy or happy in 25 years so weigh your options and Best of Luck on your decision.

    Craving chocolate and sugar

chocolate to me is like crack. made brownies for my husband at his request. I did eat a little of one to make sure it was okay (lol) but I did not eat the whole pan which In the past I would have done. so I think I can overcome my addiction if I put my mind to it..

    I need your help/opinion

make sure you research your options . I decided to have lapband after looking at the options losing a large portion of my stomach permenantly was not favored and more invasive surgery than I felt safe with. RNY is also extremey invasive . The lapband for me was the easiest surgery to recover from I was back to normal within a week and have not had any problems. Good Luck to you In whatever path you take.

oh I am so sorry about that. yes earning acceptance and trust is part of the deal . I know over the years I worked with them. We have since lost two of the kids one from cancer and one from a tragic accident so I am happy we all made peace long before that happened.

I love all the family stories.. just proves everyone has dysfunctional families. add stepchildren and their spouses and step grandchildren in the mix and it can get crazy. I sat my stepchildren down years ago. (they were pretty much grown when I married their Dad) I had nothing to do with their parent breakup however they were treating me like I was the reason their parents weren't together . I had enough of it, told all of them I had not married them and didn't care if they liked me or not, their parents were not getting back together and to be respectful or don't come to my home . Their Father could see them anytime he wanted but unless their attitudes changed I was done. It made them mad at first but in time they matured and got better. I think people will treat you like you let them and sometimes the best therapy is to be honest with them and yourself. You can't pick your family you have to be yourself and accept it.

I think we all have a hard time this time of year. It's all about food and nothing really healthy. I made brownies for my husband at his request, they are from scratch, ultimate brownies gooey, chocolate and came out perfect. how do you resist those? I did have to try a small piece . Add stress to that mixture and you may fall slightly off the wagon . I know that with my band I won't sit down and eat the whole pan of brownies, I know that Christmas and the Holidays will be short lived and you will be back on track and back to successfully losing. I know I am a sugar addict so I have to fight hard to avoid all the sugary treats this time of year. You are doing great, Give yourself credit.

    Christmas party

such a liberating thing to not worry about being single or uncomfortable with how you look. You got this girl.. love confident women
  20. Being scared is normal. I almost jumped off the gurney. My starting weight was just under 200 lbs and I had my lapband January 15, 2013. I am so happy that I did it. My life was on a downhill path before surgery. I now have normal cholesterol, no diabetes, normal blood pressure and I can walk everywhere. I purposely park out in the parking lots so I can walk. so, you do your research and see what is best for you. I chose the lapband because I didn't want to lose part of my stomach and did not want to have my insides re-routed. It was easy to recovery from and I have had no complications. Best of Luck to you.

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

These are the kind of posts I love.. so many successful bandsters. My NSV today is being able to have my Christmas shopping done and presents wrapped because I have so much more energy than I did before being banded. My other NSV is that I no longer run from cameras. We have had so many family functions where I refused to have my picture taken, it's a wonderful thing to not be ashamed of how you look. This surgery has enabled me to become more active and healthy. I am forever grateful to my surgeon and his staff for doing an excellent job for me.
