  1. it's very normal to have anxiety and fear. I almost jumped off the gurney but was determined to follow this through. I can honestly say it went well. No problems except I get nauseated easily from any kind of pain meds so I had to get something for nausea but after that I felt fine. went home the next day and drank and walked. minimal pain. Best of Luck you will be so happy you did this.

    Quick on the go ideas

hard boiled eggs are good and you can prepare them ahead. I also use Quest bars which do not have sugar . a quick Protein drink like muscle milk will work too. They now have a 32 grm protein muscle milk. I am sure other people have tons of ideas. I am lucky and work at home so I can fix a good breakfast if I want to . Not a oatmeal or Cereal fan due to the sugar and carbs but love eggbeater omelettes with turkey sausage. You can always bake some egg cups. they have eggs, cheese, any type of meat and veggies bake and you can grab it and go.

    Fat People programs

I was wondering the same thing about the girl on the fat girl show. She makes it look as if she is just happy as a clam being fat but I know it's an act. Plus it is not healthy. I watched that show today on the guy who was trained by Chris.. Chris is the guy who gets people in shape in a year and then does a big reveal . yes losing it can be done but maintaining it is another story. I watch the weight loss surgery shows and am so inspired by some who are so overweight that they are home bound. I always Thank God that I got help before that happened to me. I was thinking about all of you up North. Stay safe and warm and be careful. Hope it gets better soon.

    My story, sad but true

You need to find another Doctor Immdiately. none of the stuff he told you is true. It is not at all normal to throw up all the time and eating doughy foods and no vegetables is so unhealthy. doughy foods will cause sliming and throwing up. do some research and find someone who is a bariatric specialists. I have had my band 2 years and have not experienced any of the things you are describing, however I have an excellent Doctor who gave me nutritional information and was very conservative with fills. Best of luck to you and coming on this site and getting advice is a good step.
  5. sammydeez you need to post the photos' on your fridge,, great job and big difference. Keep up the good work girl.

    QUEEN OF DENIAL

I think your bmi is based on height and weight. I know I was shocked when I went to my surgeons office before having surgery and was told I was obese and heading towards morbid obesity. that shook me up. I am still considered overweight after losing 65 lbs so it's cause I am so darn short. I watch those shows too just to see how the folks do. I feel so bad for them being 500-700 lbs. . I could hardly walk @ 200 lbs don't know how they function. I like you am always thankful I didn't reach that weight and did decide to get healthier before it got out of hand. I am still very happy with my decision and hope to stay this way for the rest of my life.

    How's this for a NSV?

Great nsv. when I was at my heaviest, I couldn't wrap a bath towel around my body I bought a terry wrap in extra large. Now the wrap is too big . So, now regular towels wrap nicely. it's the little things that happen to you along the way that sometimes you just say, wow.

Fat and Back, a two part special...

Unfortunately I watched the nit wit who gained weight to prove she could lose it by eating less. well duh.. she is very critical of obese people and has no idea how difficult it is to lose weight or why some people gain weight more easily than others.. she looks like a stick to me. I hope she doesn't think she is attractive I think she has a eating disorder on the opposite end of the spectrum . Her husband looks sickly too . anyway I didn't finish watching her cause she made me mad. I do watch he 600 lb series because most are successful. Bless their hearts I feel so bad for them because no matter what they are trying to get better. There are a few exceptions like that one laying in the bed eating donuts and fast foods and can't understand why she hasn't lost weight.. She is a piece of work.
  9. you probably should consult your lapband surgeon and see if they suggest removing some Fluid to allow you to eat. I have seen a few band patients that got pregnant and that is what they did . I hope you start feeling better soon.

    Post-op Day1

Congratulations, you will get better each day. walk as much as you can, and drink liquids. I had to be on Clear Liquids for 4 days so I did not get Protein shakes right away, however I like muscle milk and I do sometimes still use that as a go to when in a hurry.
  11. you should definitely go back to your Dr . Don't worry about being embarrassed. There are no perfect patients, I am sure he/she won't be too critical . It's better for you to get back on track and decide that you deserve success. sounds like you are your own worst critic, and I hope you will see that you are worthy of success. Take Care and keep us posted.
  12. I was approved quickly. From the time I decided to get surgery til the day of, approximately 6 weeks. Medicare/BC approved , no pre-diet was required. I think it depends on your insurance.

I have decided on Lap Band

Good for you for looking at your family's history and deciding that you are taking a healthier approach. My mother and sister died from complications from diabetes, my brother has diabetes also . at age 66 I decided I had to take control. When people make the assumption that weight loss surgery is the easy way they have no idea what we go through and how it is a constant process to maintain the weight loss. Lapband is one of the hardest things I have ever done, physically and mentally. The surgery itself was not difficult but afterwards it's weeks of liquids and progressing to soft and finally regular food. I had a great checkup this week with my primary doctor. No more diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure. It was all worth it. At your age you have so much life to live. Live it well. Keep us posted.

    Old pictures

Ken how sad for you. I see how much weight you have lost and you should be so proud. I use my old pictures as motivation . When I get down and tired of the whole weight loss worry, I pull out my before photo's. I had mobility problems too and now can walk all over . I even park my car way out In parking lots so I have to walk. Best of luck to you and keep up the good work.

    Today is my Bandiversary!

Thank You Liz for your positive comments and helpful advice.. So happy for you. Today is my 2 year bandiversary I am so happy that I decided to take control of my weight and health when I did. I went to my primary doctor yesterday and got a glowing report. My only issue now is my flappy apron.. I have documented the rashes and hip pain. Hope I am able to have skin surgery in the future. I would still like to lose another 10 lbs or so but I am doing okay. Did not gain over the holidays and I can wear skinny jeans and boots..omg who woulda thunk.

    Emotional!

Hopeful I wasn't trying to dissuade you one way or the other really, just know that there are downsides to all WLS. If you feel you want to switch to the sleeve and have researched your options by all means it's your decision. If you still want to do the lapband, tell your Dr. Being scared is also normal. I almost jumped off the gurney, but after all was said and done I very happy I made the decision to have it done. healthier and happier than I have been in many years. Seriously I wish the best for you in whatever you decide. I will keep you in my prayers.

    Emotional!

@@hopeful , your Dr. just doesn't want to do the follow up on lapband. people eat around the sleeve everyday. Even bypass patients are not successful all the time. However I chose the lapband because I did not want 80% of my stomach gone and I didn't do bypass because I didn't want my intestines re-routed. There hasn't been enough long term studies done on the sleeve but there is failure in every WLS. Just be aware that sometimes Doctors have ulterior motives for their so called opinions. I have had no complications with my lapband and am extremely happy with the results. I have no dumping syndrome as most sleeve and bypass patients have and have not had issues . Like anything else peoples opinions are like navels or other things we all have one. I hope you are totally successful.
  20. awesome for you to be able to overcome that phobia. I call it a phobia because I avoided the camera like the plague. My family are camera nuts, they take photo's at every opportunity . We Celebrate every holiday and birthday etc. so avoiding the camera was always my goal. Since having lapband surgery almost 2 years ago, I love having my picture taken with my grandkids, kids, dog, husband . lol. this past Christmas I actually had photo's professionally done for our kids, they had always said they wanted them so I had a girl come to our farm and do them. They turned out so good and I did not have the same anxiety I used to have. losing weight has a lot of benefits to our health but feeling better about the way we look is a wonderful benefit. Hope you get the job.

believe it or not I have two pairs of silk thermals and I wear them in the winter here. they are great when I trail ride my horse on cold days. I also ordered a pair for my granddaughter who will be moving to Nebraska next year. Stay warm and safe.
  22. like everyone else I have lost hundreds of pounds. but, gained it back and then some. at 5' nothing I was 200 lbs of bad health. diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol were fast becoming worse and I had to do something before I lost my health and mobility. luckily my primary care dr. agreed with me and referred me to my lapband surgeon. I have no regrets and even though it is not always easy to follow the rules it is still the best thing I have ever done. I would do it over again only sooner.

    Help please

it is normal to gain a little after surgery. the fill will diminish your appetite and if you follow your Dr and nutritional advice you will start losing again. it is not a speedy way to lose but I think I am healthier losing slowly. my skin looks good, have had no hair loss and no longer have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. It will be worth it. Stay focused on your goal.

    Old and new memories.

so great to see so many animal lovers on here. we have always had dogs, mostly farm dogs and horses. our dogs have lived long happy lives but even at that it's difficult to lose them. it's like losing part of the family. when our last dog died at 16 , he was a blue heeler with tons of personality, was my husbands best pal, my husband was lost . He found a puppy in the woods someone had dumped. brought him home and he is now the most spoiled dog ever. animal lovers are special people.
