Could I possibly never need a fill?
MandaMom23 replied to Cwalband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen a few people that haven't needed a fill. i've seen some people only needing one small fill, and others that have their band totally full before hitting their green zone. i'm still not at what i could call my green zone (i currently have 5cc's in my 11cc band...5 fills @ 1cc each), but i can easily eat more than a cup of food, and i'm still getting hungry in between meals. i'm still losing weight, but i eat right, record every single thing i put in my mouth, and stay within my calories. I'd love to get to a point where i don't have to think so much about it. -
Finally under 300!!!!

Shrinking your liver.
MandaMom23 replied to littlebare's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being overweight causes a fatty liver, and shrinking it makes it easier for the surgeon to operate. Seems to vary by doctor whether or not they do this, as I've seen some people don't have to do a pre op diet at all. -
Giving up carbonation...
MandaMom23 replied to jktefft's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me that I can have carbonated beverages if I can tolerate the carbonation. Some people get a lot of stomach discomfort when they drink it. I gave up soda altogether as I was totally addicted, and wanted to break that habit. I have had sparkling Water on occasion, and had no problems with it. Many doctors have different opinions on things, so you'll obviously want to follow what your doctor tells you! i just wanted to share my experience! -
Congrats and good luck with your new beginning!

Just been banded 29/7/13

Totally normal to have a gain immediately after surgery! I was up 8lbs when I got home from the hospital, and it took over a week to come off. They fill you up with gas, and then there's swelling, and water retention. It'll come off, but right now, just focus on healing. -

Am I chewing enough?
MandaMom23 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't be having pain. Are you eating too fast? Too much? Try slowing down and chew chew chewing! If you're still having pain, you may need a small unfill. -
I can relate to lots of those feelings! The first time I considered surgery, the thought of giving up my security blanket (aka FOOD!!) terrified me! What would I do if I got stressed?? How would I deal with my mom's over the top family dinners?? What about all my favorite foods...could I really give them up??? I couldn't handle the thought! I decided to give it one last try 'on my own' (<---I seriously dislike that expression now!!). I did, and lost 60lbs in just over a year. Ended up with some unexpected health problems, and gained that 60lbs back in less than 5 months. So depressing. I knew at that point I needed some help!! I researched all the different options for wls, and decided that the band offered exactly what I was looking for. I'm now 6 months out of surgery, and couldn't be happier! As for some of the things you mentioned...I too love to cook, and share food with others. Only now I enjoy tweaking my favorite meals, and making them healthier. As far as scarring, my incisions are teeny tiny and I can hardly see them anymore! My biggest one is where my port is located, but it's only about an inch long. Excess skin...yes, I have it, but it doesn't bother me. My clothes hide it, and frankly, I'd rather have excess skin than fat underneath there to fill it out!! I don't have any issues with gurgling, only right after surgery (like maybe the first week or so??). My best advice to you, is you have to be ready to make and accept the changes that come with the band. I'm not going to lie it's not always easy, and YOU will have to do the work...this is why I now dislike the whole 'do it on my own'. you don't go in for surgery and magically come out 100lbs lighter (wouldn't that be fabulous?!) The band is a wonderful TOOL, but only YOU can control what you're feeding your body, and how much. You are still doing all the work, the band will just help you along in your journey. Wishing you all the luck you need to make your decision. Just take time to think things through, and do what you feel would be best for YOU!

Little success after a year
MandaMom23 replied to vickisgrey's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
First of all, congrats on losing 25lbs!! To me, a loss is a loss regardless of how much...and besides, 25lbs is more than a couple of 10lb bags of potatoes that you're no longer lugging around with you everday! I know it's so easy to get discouraged, and I also struggle with food every single day. Every morning i wake up and I have to 'start new', reminding myself how to eat, and why I did this. It gets annoying, frustrating, but I talk myself through it and most days end up pretty good. Do you record all your food so you know exactly what you're eating? How about fills, are you feeling good restriction? Are you eating only when you're hungry? Do you exercise, if so, how often, and are you getting enough calories so your body isn't hoarding them? Honestly, while weightloss may come at a faster rate sooner with bypass or sleeve, in the long run you still have to be accountable for what you're eating, or can fail with those as well. You have a great tool in there right now, and since it doesn't sound like you've had complications, I don't think I'd jump to a revision unless you're able to really figure out why you haven't had the success you're looking for with the band. Good luck to you! -
I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it, but I'm officially in onederland!!! I never evereververever thought I'd EVER be a ONE hundred something pound person, again!! I had surgery February first. This was my one year goal...to be in onederland. The fact that I've met this goal about 6 months early is pretty amazing. I was going to share pics, but I'm going to save that for my next big weightloss goal, 100lbs!! Only 7lbs away!
