I'm a very tough cookie, and I felt pretty rough the first 4 days. I was wondering what was wrong with me! I was seeing that people were going back to work in less than a weeks time...there was NO way I could have done that, and I have a desk job!! I didn't have any of the gas pains that people talked about, but my incisions were so sore. I only took my pain med for the first couple days when I'd go to bed for the night, but that was it (I HATE taking liquid medicine!!!!) I started feeling better around day 5, and went shopping on day 8. Today I'm 3 weeks out, and I'm still dealing with some soreness where my port is, but that's about it. You'll keep feeling better and better everyday! Hang in there!

Congrats! It's very normal to start to feel hungry, I know I did! I just started mushy's on monday, but it's really helped with the hunger.

Non Band related but important.
MandaMom23 replied to honk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so very sorry to hear that. How heartbreaking. My coworker got a blood clot in her lung after getting the lapband last year. Luckily she's fine, but it really made me make sure I walked walked walked after my surgery. -
Oh my goodness Cindy...I'm so sorry to hear you had such a rough and scary start!! I'm soooo happy to hear you're ok now, and doing well!!

Congrats!

Last night i had 1/4 cup of refried beans, topped that with 1/8th cup of reduced fat shredded cheddar, then 1 tbsp of salsa, and topped that with a little bit of mashed avocado. It was delicious!!

9 pounds in a week!!
MandaMom23 replied to Creekwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YAY! That's great!! -
I did a TON of reasearch on all the surgical options, and always came back to the band. I wanted the most minimally invasive surgery, and I actually liked the fact that the weightloss is much more gradual than with the sleeve/bypass. Also, thinking into the future, I thought what would happen if I started to slip up with the sleeve/bypass, stretched my new stomach out, and gained weight back? Then what?? With the band, it's adjustable... I can always get a fill if I need it... while the other options are not adjustable. At the end of the day, this is such a personal decision, only YOU know what will work best for you. Good luck with your decision.

How long after surgery, before you can work out?
MandaMom23 replied to dani_nyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my 2 week check and he said I have no restrictions and can start exercising whenever I'm ready! -
Sounds like you're doing great, and good for you getting in all that protein! I really struggled with that! Do you get to go to pureed foods on Thursday? I was on liquids for 2 weeks...just got to start the pureed foods on Monday (chicken salad never tasted sooo good!!).

What did you tell you family/friends?
MandaMom23 replied to charlibell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only people who know that I have the band are my very closest friends and very close family...probably a total of 10 people. I told people at work that I had to have a hernia repaired. In my opinion, no one NEEDS to know. We all know that having a lapband won't magically make us thin, or force us to make healthy food choices, or to exercise. If I'm going to be successful, it's going to be because of the work *I* put in. I don't want my success to be judged as "she lost weight because she has the lapband" or if god forbid I'm not successful, I don't need to hear "...but she has the lapband, and it didn't work". If I fail, it's going to be because of me not doing what needs to be done. This is just a tool, like any other thing people use to lose weight (home delivered meals, weight watchers, other weight loss surgeries, even a gym membership...TOOLS!!). Sadly, it's hard for some to understand or to even want to understand. -
I'm not sure, but I think in some cases insurance requires an overnight stay.
-
Good luck on Wednesday! I hope for your sake the nurse is understanding and will give you that fill! Hang in there, and keep us updated!

Welcome Frederic!
