LeeB1946 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, my kingdom for a little diarrhea. Had and still do have the opposite issue. -
What was anyones weight when banded...
LeeB1946 replied to debpaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5ft 5 inches 258 when I first went to Weight Loss Center at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. Day of surgery 2 19 13 I weighed in at 241 and now 198. -
Did applesauce as mushy food and still do. Have a teaspoon of sugar free coolwhip on top. Oh, yummy! (I say that sarcastically).

6 weeks is what I was told, but even one end of my love seat was a bit heavy on the lap band area. Sounds like you are doing great.

Hiatal hernia and not burping??
LeeB1946 replied to carriet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had the HH with the band and I burp and hiccup too. -
Mom did not know of surgery? Need to help her plan menu for when you come over. Show her what doctor said you can eat and I bet she will help.

How many of you have lost more than 45% of your excess weight?
LeeB1946 replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
61 per cent in 5 months. Actually, 16 was pre op and the rest post op, but looking forward to another 39 percent for a total of 100 per cent of my excess weight. -
Band tied to emotions?
LeeB1946 replied to Amanda1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe I have not been stressed enough or just to dumb to know what is going on, but have not had any problem with band tightening except when I flew from Seattle to Tucson and it was not all that tight, but did not want solid food for about half a day. -
Discouraged
LeeB1946 replied to happilybandedryley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
don't fill band too fast. I have 5 cc in a 10cc band. Got 2 at surgery, 2 and first fill and 1 at second fill. PA really only want to go .5cc, but I begged for 1cc as I had to travel to Seattle and it takes about 2 hours so figured I could get it and glad I did. Good work on those goals. I too am ahead of my goal. Was going for 45 pounds in 6 months and have already lost 66 in 4 months. -
4 days post op band. So many questions
LeeB1946 replied to lisamase's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better. Walk as far as you can. I live in a narrow mobile home and walked the hallway for the first day. Then outside about the length of the trailer. Tried for the mail box on day 2 but up hill too much walked home. Got in car and drive less than 2 blocks to mail box. Walked about half block several times on day three and then was able to make it to mail box. Took about 1 to 2 weeks until gas totally gone though. Sounds like you are doing normal and keep up the good work. -
Ditto to all the above. You will be sore for a few days or a week or two maybe. You had your body invaded with medical equipment. Liquids, sip sip sip and walk walk walk and the gas will feel better soon. The first few days I thought I had made a mistake. 4 months later and 60 pounds lighter I am glad I did it.

Question about weight loss before fill?
LeeB1946 replied to Judy Robinette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds good to me. I lost fast at first even before first fill. Then it slows down. I am doing the 2 pound bump again. 2 up and same 2 down. This usually goes on for a week or two before I notice a 4 pound drop then the 2 pound bump for a few weeks and then 3 to 4 pounds off. Keep up the good work. -
LBS and hiatal hernia fixed at the same time
LeeB1946 replied to carriet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Had them both done and had two separate surgeons. Recovery time was about 2 weeks all total so doubt if it really made much difference. -
Night shift work is bad for weight loss. Gained over 60 pounds while working nights for a 3 year period. Had a friend who weighed over 350 when she died after working for 20 plus years of graveyard shift. My Dr. said it was because the body is designed to sleep at night and then it metabolises during sleep. Day sleepers sleep less hours and less deeply than night sleepers and our metabolisms don't get the chance to work as well. I would get home at around 9am and go walking for at least 20 to 40 minutes and it helped some. It messed up my sleep patterns so badly that now, almost 6 years later and retired, I have issues trying to sleep. I know that is why my weight loss has slowed down because I have sleep issues. Could not use a CPAP machine because of this. The specialist who was working with said she had never seen anyone with such broken sleep patterns in her 20 year career. She wondered how I was standing up and now falling asleep just sitting down. If I get 3 hours unbroken sleep per night it is great. fit in the exercise and sleep whenever and where ever you can.

One of the written instructions I got upon leaving the hospital was "no airline food." No time restrictions implied, just "no" airline food. I laughed and said was this for wls patients or the world in general. I came up with the around the world diet. Stay airborne for 3 weeks with only water and you will walk off the plane 30 pounds lighter. I think each and every surgeon has different ideas about the flying thing. I know they sure do about pre op and post op diets, etc.
-
My doctor's instructions no flying within 2 weeks of fill. Was to have fill and then flight 2 weeks and one day later, but PA said no fill until I got back. It had been almost 7 weeks from my last fill until I took the flight and I was in the air about 3 hours. No pain, but tight enough that I did not want to eat only drink liquids until the next afternoon. Glad I did not have the fill before I left.

4 Yr Band Anniversary! 55 lost, Proud, Frustrated! Whats Next
LeeB1946 replied to rosstheboss's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Sounds like you are doing your best at maintaining and that is always a plus. How many times in the past did you diet and lose only to gain it and more back. I worry about doing this myself. I am only 4 months banded and have lost around 60 with about 40 to go. I have found myself eating a little too much and then going back on liquids for a day to make up for it. My weight loss has slowed down, but that is my fault. Need to be kicked in the can to get out of house and walk at least 3 to 4 times per week for a couple of miles at a time. Keep up the good work. -
Four months ago today I was in Swedish Hospital in Seattle and had my band installed. Have lost 44 pounds since then along with 16 pre op for a total of 60. Awesome. Went clothes shopping in my closet yesterday and have bags of stuff to give to Goodwill tomorrow. Thanks Swedish, love ya.

4th month bandaversery
LeeB1946 replied to LeeB1946's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best of luck. As far as I am concerned you chose the best. I shopped around a bit and met some I liked but Dr. McMahon and his staff are the best. These support groups are great fun twice a month too. -
First few weeks? Failure?
LeeB1946 replied to Bandakat412's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you are doing great. The pudding thing can be an issue. I used it for awhile, but now I buy a pudding at my surgeon's office that is made for us. Don't like it as well as the Jello puddings, but it is not as habit forming either. I do what I can a 2 pound bounce for a few days each week and then I notice a weight loss. 2 up and 2 down and then finally 3 or 4 pounds off. This can go on for a few days or a couple of weeks. Was banded 4 months ago today and have lost 44 pounds post surgery with 16 pre op so doing good. Sounds like you are doing well yourself. I just have to remember to to compare myself to others. Have friend, my buddy in surgery, who had by pass one month before I had the band. She is ahead of me in weight loss, but that is her program. We work to encourage each other through the highs and lows and both understand this is a tool we must work. Best of luck in you journey. -
Dry mouth is a problem for me. Ever try sugar free popsicles? I get up in the morning and before I grab the coffee pot I get a popsicle in my mouth and then turn around and make the coffee. I eat 3 or 4 popsicles per day to help with the dry mouth and it is also a good source of liquid to help prevent dehydration. Yes, they can be addictive. Anyone know of a Popsicle Anonymous meeting I can attend?

1 year bandiversary and 70 pounds gone
LeeB1946 replied to wafa125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome. I am 4 months today and have a total of 60 pounds gone. I gave it away not lost it. Seems as if when I lose something I go back looking for it. Don't want this back so just gave 60 pounds away to anyone who needs it. You are in inspiration to all of us still in the early stages. I have slipped too. Got too hungry last night and overate, but today is a new day. Keep up the good work. -
6 weeks post op. Had my first fill but...
LeeB1946 replied to JimsObie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to do liquids for 48 hours after a fill. I have had 2 fills post op and still can eat anything, but have noticed this time it does not take as long to get full and I stay full a little longer. Still not in green zone, but can see shades of lime so maybe next fill will do the trick for me.
