  1. I contacted them. It is covered if your BMI of over 40 (which I am) or over 35 with comorbidities. I am just nervous that something is going to happen. Sorry, I'm just always "Nervous Nellie"....
  2. Thanks for the info. My BMI is 40. I don't have any other health issues. I can just see me making a bunch of 80 miles round trips for all these tests and then my insurance denying me for some reason. How disappointing that would be.
  3. I guess I must be slow at catching on. Lol....I can't figure out why they do all the testing prior to getting surgery approval. You can go through all the tests and then not be approved. Then you have a bunch of medical bills you have to pay for nothing. Begining to wonder if it's a way for the doctor to make money whether you have surgery or not....Any ideas? Any one else wonder this?
  4. I don't know about the 6th year. I will check if needed. Thanks.....
  5. Yes, mis73 if I need to try to track them down I will. But, if the surgeon thinks he can get past it with the insurance, I'm not. I will find out on 12/12/12 when I see him again. It's not like I was somehow miraculously thin 5 years ago. Lol......
  6. I called the insurance and their only requirement is 5 years of weight records. No 6 months of supervised nutrition or anything, Yes each insurance company is different. It depends on the employer, not the insurance company, It can get crazy. Thanks for the info.......
  7. I just got a call from my surgeons office. They told me that they had been in touch with my insurance and that I had coverage for lap band. They also told them what my out of pocket would be after my deductible. The only requirement they had was 5 years of my weight records. I have 4 years, but not 5. The fifth year, I only went to my obgyn and he has since passed away and I don't know where the records are. The surgeon said he would probably be able to get past the insurance because of not knowing where the records are. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? Did you have luck with insurance, or was it a tug of war? I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed. I am so ready for a change in my life. Thanks......
  8. I'm so sorry. I have been in your shoes. Those Daddy's are very special. I will say a prayer for you....
  9. Congratulations! I'm not that far along yet. Wish I was though. Let us know how it goes...
  10. Just wondering if anyone has used Dr. Luis Gorospe for their lap band surgery? He is in the Tulsa area of Oklahoma. Thank for any information you have....
  11. Has anyone used Dr Luis Gorospe for their lap band surgery? He is in the Tulsa area of Oklahoma. Thanks for any information you would have....
  12. Thanks.....I just feel like I am in limbo. I want things to be happening. I'm impatient.....Lol..
  13. I met with the surgeon almost two weeks ago. He scheduled me an appointment to come back on Dec. 12th. Any ideas what I will do that day? Do you wait for insurance approval before you start testing? Or, do you do the testing first? Do you think he is trying to get insurance approval before I return on that day? I feel so stupid. I like to know what I am doing, but really feel in the dark. Thanks for any advice anyone can give.....
  14. Has anyone gone to Bailey Bariatrics in Owasso, Ok for their lap band surgery? If so, what was your experience? Thanks...
  15. Anyone have experience with United Healthcare through American Airlines?
  16. Has anyone had any experience with United Healthcare insurance provided through American Airlines? Just wondering if it went pretty smoothly or if they are slow on approval? Thanks....
  17. Thank you so much for your insight. I am happy to learn all I can. Since I don't work I am able to do my testing at any time. I would even do multiple tests on days. I will be sure to mention to my surgeon that I would love to progress as fast as we can. I'm sure he hears that from everybody. Lol.....
  18. Thanks so much for the information. I will stay on top of the doctor. When he said it would probably be March, I though, that is the worst possible month for me. That is the busiest month of my year. Hopefully we can get it done in February. So, they do testing before it is submitted to insurance? I just figured they were getting insurance approval before tests. I just want to make sure the insurance pays and I don't get stuck with a big bill for tests.
  19. Thanks guys! I know it will be worth the wait. I am just an impatient person. I have myself mentally ready for this. This is going to be a great help being able to get on here and talk to great people like you. Not everyone understands the struggles of being overweight. I feel like I am isolated in my family. My husband does not have a weight problem. And my grown daughter doesn't seem too excited about me doing this. I haven't told my son because he is going to have a blue blazing fit. I am not going to tell him until I know I have insurance approval. I don't want to put myself through it unless I'm really having surgery. I am ready.....
  20. Congrats on your 12/12/12 surgery. That is my next appointment date. Hope they can get the ball rolling quick.
  21. I went yesterday to meet with the surgeon for the first time. I was told that my surgery probably won't be until March. I was really surprised. I had no idea it would take that long. I know I have to wait for insurance approval, but I didn't realize it would take that long for testing. I am sure you all felt like I do. I'm so anxious to get this process moving along. I was told there would be numerous tests like cardiology, pulminology, blood, sleep study and psychology. Since I don't work, I am just hoping they can cram a bunch of tests together to get this process going. What has been the time lines for some of you?
