Why people and studies are so negative about lapband

I believe, like many other posts above, that there is good and bad in everything. I feel that we live in a society that tends to focus more in negatives than positive... And I'm only saying that because take a look at the news. There are more instances of bad news than good.. We don't hear about all of the successful airplane flights everyday, only when a plane crashes. When it comes to the lapband, I feel that you get what you out into it. I'm not banded yet but I have learned from here and my doctors that it is extremely person dependent. Of course there are times when the lapband doesn't work with someone's body by default. It can erode the stomach lining, cause an infection, someone may be allergic, or it can leak. However, there are times when people say the band doesn't work and that's because of poor food choices and the failure to change one's lifestyle. If you're eating ice cream all of the time, of course it won't get stuck, but you also won't lose weight. I think my point is to understand the pros and cons from all angels. Accept that you will have good and bad days, just like everyone else, and even weight losses and gains, but as long as you do your part and change your lifestyle, this tool will work for you!

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

thank you all for continuing to respond. I also truly appreciate all of your honest. Kim- your post popped out at me because I am so scared that I am going to struggle with changing my eating habits also. I'm hoping that my loss of motivation (which I'm assuming will be inevitable sometimes) will somehow be kicked back into gear with the band. I truly feel my loss of motivation comes from me being so hungry that I just don't give a damn, therefore, making my weight loss stop and turn into weight gain... not sure if that makes sense.
  3. Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy 2013! This is the year my life will change!! I am so excited!!

    Blood Work

I just went for my blood work (13 viles) and they could only get 1!! Now what?! This is terrible. Any suggestions on helping blood flow? I drank so much water yesterday and it still didn't help.

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

thank you all for your responses! I'm happy to see that your comments are not only helping me but other fellow newbies also. I hope that I will be just as successful as many of you are on the band. I'm trying to be as realistic as possible. I am changing my lifestyle- I will follow the rules and I will eat what I am supposed to and exercise the way I'm supposed to also.. I also know that I will make mistakes and I will overeat and I will have a taste of cake here and there because I am only human and no one is perfect.. but it's learning not to dwell on those rare treats and make them an often occurrence that will make me successful.. it's about having that treat and going right back to following that healthy regimen that I, right now as a food addict, can not grasp. Thank you all so much! Please, lets try to keep this post active! This post is filled with amazing questions and answers and has helped me so much! Thank you to everyone for each and every one of your posts! It has helped me tremendously!! You are incredible people!

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

I'm in the pre-op phase in that I am still making and going to all of my doctors before I set my surgery date. I was following a general diet that the nutritionist recommended for me up until last week and I can't seem to get back on. I'm curious to know how you all felt before you got banded... did you ever question your willpower to actually stick with the diet? I'm so scared that I'm going to have the same fragile and short-lived willpower I have now even when I get banded... this is one of my biggest fears... being unsuccessful with the band.

    Pulmnologist?

Okay, so my pulmonologist appointment is complete! For those of you who do not know what to expect, I'll tell you how mine went. First, I met with the woman who was doing my pulmonology tests. I had to put this device (a tube-like device) that I did all of my breathing tests through. I kept a nose plug (looked like a clothes pin) the entire time. I put the device into my mouth and sealed with my with lips. I had to do multiple tests.. first, breathe normal, then take a deep breath then blow it out as hard and fast as possible until I had nothing left. Then I had to breathe in and out as fast and hard as possible. Then, I sat inside a clear tube/coffin like machine (not as scary as it sounds) and the woman told me what to do through the speakers.. pretty much the same breathing tests, except my device in my mouth was now connected to a tube in the machine. I had to pant like I was trying to fog up glass and something in the tube shuts half way through but I had to keep breathing (strange and a bit scary at first.. kind of hard). Then I was given an inhaler and repeated the first two tests to see if there was a change in my breathing. Finally, I met with the actual pulmonologist who asked about family history, my history of breathing, etc (if I snore, of wake up short of breath at night), how I am walking, going up a flight or two of stairs, etc. The doctor said I breathe beautifully, thank goodness! I never met him before but he gave me the thumbs up for wanting the surgery!

    Pulmnologist?

Thank you for the help! I think my doctor required it. I think my insurance only required a letter of medical necessity lol
  12. I didn't know what forum to post this in, so I decided to post it here. As a pre-bandster, I am anxiously looking forward to starting my new life! I can NOT wait!! For years I've been up and down in weight, bought "skinny" clothes that some years I fit in to and others I did. I always kept them so when I did fit into them. Well, after years of hoarding these "skinny" wordrobes, today I decided to take the bull by horn. I decided that it was time to throw out the OLD "skinny" wordrobe- not because I am not going to fit into them, because I know I will, but because I don't want the go back to that kind of skinny... the skinny that stayed off only for a few weeks and then I went back up. I want to buy a brand new "skinny" wordrobe after I am banded... the lasting "skinny" wordrobe that will last me forever! I don't want to fit into my old "skinny" jeans.. I want my new skinny jeans... ya know the ones that I will always fit into! It felt so liberating to say "good bye" to my old wordrobe... 6 large garbage bags of clothes are now out of my closet. I have hangers galore that are anxiously waiting for my new wordrobe to arrive!! I had to share what a magical moment this was for me today!

What a liberating moment for me!

thank you all very much! I am in my biggest sizes right now, so I will keep those for sure when I start losing the weight. I can't wait to keep transforming my closet!!

Banded august still no weight loss

Did you ever get checked for a leak? Or possibly the band slipped? I'm not banded yet, but everyone's right.. something isn't matching up. Definitely eat more though because having just one meal a day isn't healthy and does not give you enough nutrients for your body to properly function or the keep your metabolism going either whether you have the LapBand or not. Go to your doctor and be adamant about finding out exactly what is going on and why it is not working for you.

    Boots and calves

OMG! That is one of my LapBand bucket lists items! I can't wait until I'm skinny enough to wear knee high boots.. even UGG boots over my jeans or leggings! I'm right there with you girl!
