    Have the 1st fills helped?

I just had my 1st fill on friday, 1cc. I can definetly tell a difference. I am eating very little and feel full fast. Lost 6 lbs (according to my scale) since friday but i believe at lease 2 were water weight due to my period which is almost to be over. I know it is soon, but I think it will work.

I must get to bed. believe it or not, i am sore where I got my fill today. basically because I have a sit down job and from sitting all day it feels like it has been compressed. i need to lie down and let it get "unsore". It has been great talking with you. I will be checking tomorrow. You are truly an amazing, honest and open person. How many kids do you have? I have 2 girls. almost 14 and 7.5, they are a blessing, althought the 14 yr old can be trying, she is a great kid with a big heart. I look at them and know my life was worth all i had to go through. They are the proof that everything happens for a reason, maybe to prepare us to be good moms, better people, pet lovers, i don't know. Well, I am falling asleep here, as i am getting old (lol). Talk to you tomorrow.

I am sorry to hear about your dad's treatment of a family he should have adored. My dad died a few years ago from n aggressive sarcoma.. It was a rare form and took him pretty quickly. My mom is still alive and we are close, but I was daddy's little girl, born on his birthday and all. I will say one thing though, you didn't let it ruin your life. you are a very open person. Something else we have in common. I had some trauma in my life too as a child, and yet I persevered. I also had a husband that was an abuser. More emotional abuser, pushing and shoving, screaming in your face, but then he was getting worse and worse (as if he other wasn't bad enough), and i seemed to snap out o fit and came to my senses. My family hated him even though they didn't know what was going on. It was like I was in a trance when I met him. really weird. but, typical me, i bounced back and have been on a quest to better myself.

    Fill Question!!!

Drew's Lou, I never thought about that. i was feeling guilty because I was stagnant for he last 2-3 weeks and hadn't had my first fill, but was thinking i blew it somehow, that I wasn't having the discipline I need to make it , etc. (well, other people have helped me think that last part). I got my first fill today. I want to thank you for that advice because you helped me too!!!

I agree. When we were kids, it all seems strict, but it really did teach us respect and manners. When we were kids, inmy house, you were even allowed to say the word gas as in "he had gas". It was "he passed wind". My sis and I used to joke, "well, who did he pass it to?" Oh boy would we get "the look". Knew to shut up then. Funny, how my parents never hit, and my dad didn't even yell, but the "look" would stop you mid sentence.

Third Day Banded and I am still having Pain

bwaydive, I wasn't disagreeing with you, just that as you get older, you can't push yourself as much as when you are in your 20's (unfortunately). It is true that sometimes you heal slower. But, I do agree that if you are able to, get up and move. I did, but there was pain when going from a laying position to the standing position, most specifically where the port is. Charolette, just remember, it really does pass. I k now you are thinking, lord, did I do the right thing, is it going to get better? The answer is YES!!! You are starting a new life!! Believe me, you will feel better. I have lost 35 lbs so far and the compliments are great but better then that is I already feel healthier. My pants are all too big (yipee!), even my shoes fit better already (I am NOT kidding).

Third Day Banded and I am still having Pain

Stay away from dairy. with only 3 days, you should be on a full liquid diet which is NO milk!! ice pops; Italian ices, soup broth, water, your tummy needs to heal. I had pain getting up and down especially for like a week. I thought I would be back to work 6 days after my banding and I had to wait another week. Even then, i got driven to work because I have a long drive and knew I wasn't all there yet. Treat yourself with tender loving care. Remember, you are worth the extra time and care. you have the rest of your life to be on the go!! Give yourself a couple of weeks of easiness.

    When to fill??

ukangel, I just got my fill today. I think if you are losing 1-2 lbs a week, you are doing good. I had been stagnant for the last 3 weeks, so i think i definitely needed one. My doc gave me on today and gave me a little card with parameters on it which will tell me if I need more, less or I am just fine. I am on liquids today, so we will see about food tomorrow, but i can tell even with the liquids something is different (yipee!!).

Carlene, i don't know why, but that example bothers me too. more so then the meximutt. Niglet probaly because of the n word beinghalf in there, whereas the meximutt just means mexican and some other blood. If her mom had said "spicmutt" i think that would bother me too. But you are correct, but one keeps inthe family is their buisness as we are not at 1984 yet (lol). But you do worry if hte n word is being used so easily with a child, whenthey grow up they will use it too , possibly , and not realize until too late that it is bad (like school, where they will give her/him and inschool suspension).

your job sounds so unique. I know that thiswill sound weird, but, I really haven't thpought about goldminers in this day and age. We sort of take it for granted like a machine does it all now. We hear of coal miners and such, but haven't heard of gold miners in modern day. My friend just told me he saw a special on it like on discovery channel or something.

no, I don't think you are wrong. You just look at folks in a good light and don't think they are sayingit to be mean but to be funny. I do that too. Sometimes though,I realize with some people..hey, they didn't mean that in a good way, but those times are rare.

All, Diversity is a great thing. However, I don't have to embrace everybody no matter what. THAT is my prerogative. However, I feel (and the law says) that no one should be denied for the color of their skin, the blood that runs through their veins not the gender of the body, nor for the age of that body. Again, IMUS didn't get fired because it was wrong what he said (although it was). he was fired because of money. I would love to think that the world is as nice as most of us and as idealistic, but it is NOT> If it were then you wouldn't have sex slavery going on as we speak. Funny How I don't see any really big attacks by the Govt on this stuff. A feeble attempt here and there. Why? because it is mostly against women. Most poor women that no one heard of, so there is no money to suffer without. Don't get too personal with all the bad talk, and guess what? I took plenty of those classes (even with a science degree) but I also took classes on the streets of life.

Tommy O, If you actually read the rest of my post, I said that some are true and some aren't. I do not believe all Irish are a bunch of drunks, but there is some truth to an Irish wake. I was in Ireland for weeks as I was engaged to an I rish fellow from there, quite a sweet country. I was very confused when we were "going to mass". I thought I was going to church. Instead we were at teh local pub. However, it is not like everyopne was drunk. The irish use this as a social gathering. There were whole families there, grandpas and grandmas down to little "babbies". They did "sing-song" the real kareoke and everyone has to take a turn. Outsiders or someone who didn't like the irish would say..drunks. Others wouldn't. But the fact that they gather at pubs and have alcohol at wakes, to some tea-totelers would be considered drunks. Not me, I say live and let live. However, just a note, I did break up with him because his life style was centered on guiness a bit too much for my lifestyle (lol).

That was great suntra, not all true though. Now apply to women. I work in a male dominated field. I also had to "sue" my high school to have a girls track team. We have all had our crosses to bear. I joined an international club where we all used to tell racial and nationality jokes...what we did different was the Italian would tell the Italian jokes; the white the white jokes, the black the black jokes, the Irish the Irish jokes and so on. You need to learn to laugh at yourself. Oh, and by the way, there are reasons that there are stereotypes. because some of them are true. Some are not. Do Italians smell like garlic? Most likely, as we cook with it all the time. Many things about stereotyping aren't that bad, only the hateful part is. We, as a people, will NEVER all be alike. Hopefully, anyway. I like the diversity. There are some things I don't like, but some things i like. You take the good with the bad. You don't purposely try to hurt someone's feelings. If you do, you should Apologize and depending on the degree, you may be punished . But it is NOT the end of the world. We are not made of glass. And you know what? My daughter gets picked on because she is tall and has a speech issue. She is 7. My 14 yr old gets called "cracker" because she is white. Do I go running to the school? No (I would if things got more out of hand) but I do teach her to ignore people like that. I explain to them that all through their life they will be picked on or not liked for something. Learn from it. Be strong and move on. Do you really think it hurts less to be ignored or disliked or called names because you are a different color then it does because you wear store brand clothes instead of name brand? It DOESN'T. HATE is HATE and HURT is HURT. Why do you think there is so much peer pressure? There are many different colors of people and different nationalities. We will NEVER be the same. Don't fight the difference by walking on egg shells. Embrace the difference. And if someone is hateful, deal with it differently then if someone is trying to be funny by repeating a (BTW a BLACK directed movie geared towards a black audience) routine out of a movie even though it came out bad, or a bad attempt at humor. Again, this man has done more to help black kids then most black men, so don't judge a person just by what they say; judge by what they do.

Yes, but IMUS's JOB was to be a SHOCK JOCK and a COMIC!!!! Is everyoone forgetting this? He is NOT supposed to be Dan Rather. Ask any politician who has been on his show. My Goodness, Ask TRUMP!! I remember when he and IMUS were haveing a "feud". WoW, they were both offensive, but they were funny and ratings soared (the CEOs of CBS were very pleased). So, if your JOB is to make a joke and you make a very bad one, you should be written up, maybe suspended for a week or two, but NOT FIRED.

You know what, ??? What he said was wrong, but it wasn't premeditated and he isn't JUST a shock jock (One of the first I might add) he is a comic-shock Jock. Some one said one thing, he added it to it. I was a female athlete, and I wouldn't want to be called a "ho." However, the man apologized. (Oh, BTW, I have heard that at those Rutgers Women BB games, it gets pretty raunchy with the name calling from the audience AND the players, so let's not act too innocent here). If you want politically correct, you don't watch/listen to IMUS. I don't find this one quarter of offensive as i do listening to Howard stern and his group talk about women as if they were sex slaves, and treating them (of course for money because isn't that what they think) like pieces of garbage. But they made a bunch of money right? I mean, on public TV stations and radio stations. Where was rev sharpton then? Oh, please for he and Jesse jackson to be calling ANYONE OTHER THEN THEMSELVES a racist is laughable. If they included them selves maybe I wouldn't mind, but how much have THEY given to sickle-cell anemia foundations? IMUS gives millions. To many different charities, including sickle cell anemia. Oh, Jesse Jackson, calling New York City "hymie town" isn't racist? Oh, Rev Sharpton, please don't even get me started. Can anyone say "tawana Brawley?". I don't care about MSNBC, but the CBS firing is what really got me. These weasels didn't have an WFAN radio station until IMUS made it so. It was a different radio station before hand (WNBC I believe) and he was the staple there. He made them what they are. First they suspended him for 2 weeks (after the radiothon would be over (you know the one that he raises millions of dollars for the SIDs foundations; the Hackensack Hospital's children with Cancer wing, and the IMUS Ranch which hosts kids from all over that have cancer..for free)), but they caved to the likes of Sharpton and Jackson and others who probably don't even know him or what he is like over he years but wanted to get on the bandwagon. Folks, 2 wrongs don't make a right, but what they mean by the hip hoppers and rappers relation to this ordeal, is that if you listen to any of that music, it is degrading to women, blacks, whites and many others, but especially women. AND the WHITE CEOs of the record companies LOVE it because they are making MONEY> If anyone really was hurt about all this, this music wouldn't be allowed with those lyrics in them. And PLEASE don't give me this crap, "well, if you are black, it is okay to call another black a ho or a nigga" THAT is the BIGGEST cop out there is. I am Italian. If a non Italian call me a guinea or an Italian person calls me a guinea, I don't care. I hate it both ways because i demand more respect. And everyone should. But NOT by making 1 person your scapegoat. Make the rules to stop it. Boycott the hip hop radio stations, boycott the black eyed peas (I mean, Fergie with her "LUMPS and the boys give her ICEY because she treats them NICEY (oh yea, can you say HO now) and the rest and the record companies that allow all this. OH, my, what about MTV and VH1? I mean, I am sorry, but they really enforce the independent smart self sufficient woman , don't you think? The issue here is, Sharpton and Jackson hate IMUS because over the years he has called them out as the phonies that they are. They saw an opportunity to swoop in and they did. If America is so sensitive, then I better start seeing some real boycotting going on. And by the way, Sharpton and Jackson don't give a rat's butt that he said the word "HO", it is the "nappy headed" part that they really are protesting. Can anyone remember when Stevie Wonder called himself a "Nappy headed boy" in the 70's song (a great tune too , I might add" but I can't remember the name, only all the words "I wish those days - would come back once more - I wish those days - would never had to go, cause I loved them so"" . And no one can say Stevie wonder is a hypocrite, he was very vocal in the black movement to secure civil rights and to be looked at as equal to all races. I purposely used the term Black here because when the African Americans were fighting for rights, they were called blacks (at their request (Black panthers, as an example) and in the 70's there were no "African Americans" that is a newer term. I think folks are trying to have a good heart and stand up for what is right, and IMUS was wrong. But so what? he has proven in his life BY HIS ACTIONS, NOT what he has said as a laugh, that he is neither a racist nor a male chauvinist pig. Actions speak louder then words, although sharpton and jackson do have pretty big mouths. Just wish they would put their money where their mouths are and give more to charity instead of always looking for a reason to get in front of that camera.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Diddi, I think it is amazing that you are teaching yourself english. understand though that some of what we write is "slang" . Slang means they aren't real words but a shortcut for real words. Like "wanna" is really "want to". Don't be discouraged. I , too, have not lost anything in like 2 -3 weeks. I will see my doctor this week, so hopefully I will have my first fill. But you have already lost some great weight. take care and hope to "see" you soon.

6 months of waiting please help!!

I personaly. think it is a bunch of crock. I think it is a catch 22 scenario. If you succeed and lose weight, they will probably say you don't need lapband, but if you fail, then you aren't a good candidate. I would ask them what is it you want me to achieve in this and what is it that you want to achieve in this, and get it in writing. This way, if you meet the criteria 6 months from now, they will have a harder time denying it on their letterhead or email address. Check the web page also, because many times they have "and/ors" in there that your doctor can work with. For instance, I was able to have my doctor write up all the times I tried while I was his patient (17 years now and MANY diet attempts). Many times the insurance companies will also have an "or have 2 comorbidities (I think it is called) like sleep apnea and high bld press, etc. They "help".

    Pregnant & banded- advice needed!

Wow, I feel for you. Both of the things you are doing are things we pray for, but not at the same time, so this must be really hard for you. First, please, let me say, get a second opinion with another lap band doctor. If you are carrying an infection, I don't understand how the doctor can say.."well, we'll wait until after the baby is born to deal with this'. Infections can get into the bloodstream and cause major damage, including death. Pregnancy takes a lot out of the body, so having an infection while pregnant is a lot more intense then having one while not pregnant. DO NOT IGNORE THIS, PLEASE!!!! :omg: Besides, I wouldn't think an infection is good for the baby. Also, I would get with an OB/GYN as quickly as possible and get the two doctors talking (but NOT the lap band doctor you spoke of in your letter). Your health and now the baby's health are the most important thing, and you can always get rebanded (or hopefully just refilled) after the baby is born. You are young, and that means a bunch. Your body has more strength and can rebound from all this if you listen to good doctors, take you Vitamins and do some reserch too. I hope all works out for you, and I am happy for you on the pregnancy, but I can understand the dissappointment on the lapband. You and the baby will be in my prayers.
