    Any Ithaca/syracuse Sleevers?

You're going to do great on Wednesday! When is your last day at work? The diet is so hard beforehand- because you still have a normal size stomach! It's great you could get your mind off being hungry and everything by working so much After surgery things won't be as tempting (most likely) for awhile. One thing I wasn't prepared for, (not sure it's really common) is that for a few weeks my sense of smell was all freaked out. This smelled terrible! Something to think about... I'm doing alright. I'm basically at my goal weight. 150. I wear a size 8 pants, which is completely insane (I was a 22). I have one more endoscopy (total of 5 since RNY) to finish opening up the structure between the pouch and intestines. I'm eating lots of things now, and things are moving through well! I can't wait for you to be through surgery and start losing more! In a few months, you're going to look back and just be in awe about how different your life is from what it used to be. It's amazing. And hold on to that because at some point during the first few weeks you're going to have a few moments at least where you can't understand why you did this to yourself. Just keep the end in mind!! I'll be thinking about you on Wednesday! Be sure to post how it went as soon as you're feeling up to it!!

Well it was at Upstate, but it was through the group at Community General. I just had to have the surgery asap (it was a revision) and so they did it at Upstate. I'm sure you'll do great!

    Straws

Honestly, I use straws a lot and I feel as though they greatly reduce the amount of air I swallow in comparison to drinking straight from a glass or water bottle. I haven't spoken to my surgeon or nut about this, but I think the way people sip may be just enough different that some can use straws without a problem and others can't. If its helping you get in fluid- I'd do it until you can ask your surgeon what he/she thinks about that.
  8. I'm sure you're doing great, Mari. It's probably just a stall. Keep up the small portions

    Easter candy

Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs!! Oh how I will miss those this year! Haha
  10. Totally know what you are going though, and just remember that you're not alone, many of us are struggling. I know that everyone is different, but this is what has helped me- I kept a pair of my largest jeans, and from time to time I take them out and put them on, in front of the mirror to remind myself how far I've come. Also, every few days I take time to look at myself in a full length mirror. It was hard at first- I avoided mirrors like the plague, like I'm sure many of us did! But it's important to find little things that you like about your new body, even though you can probably find double the amount of things you don't like. Just find a few good things to hold on to. You're beautiful! Chin up!

    Top Heavy Women.....

I'm top heavy! I didn't exercise a lot at first (I had a lot of complications). But before surgery, I bought a really nice sports bra from Lane Bryant that was super heavy duty. And I was able to wear it a lot longer than I thought... I know everyone is different, but I'll be honest, after losing almost 100lbs, I have a smaller band size (significantly) but my cup size is still quite large. Years ago, I used to go to Walmart and get the cheaper, flimsy sports bras and double up and that helped.

    Discouraged

We all have bad days (or a bad few days when it's that time!). What if instead of shopping - since you seem like you want to save it for when you meet goal- you did something else for yourself? Maybe get a manicure or pedicure, take someone with you on a walk in a park, go to a comedy show and laugh. But kudos to you for recognizing that it's probably your cycle that's messing with you. It'll pass before you know it!

    Any Ithaca/syracuse Sleevers?

You're going to do great!! Dr.Kim was in on my surgery I think. (I had Dr. mcDonald as my primary surgeon though.) I wish I could tell you what recovery was like in the hospital, but my surgery had to be at Upstate and not community general. Totally normal to be nervous- but I'm sure it will go well and you'll be on the road to a new you!! good luck!

    Dehydration warning

Oh, I forgot to mention - I use a really simple app on my phone to help me track how much liquid I'm drinking. It's called "Waterlogged." Might help anyone that's looking to add some more ounces to their day!

March 27th! So soon! it'll be here before you know it! I'm doing ok- ready for my endoscopy & stretch tomorrow- that's for sure! Getting tough to eat again. Do u have to do 1 or 2 weeks of liquid diet?

    Dehydration warning

I hope that you heal quickly! I'm sure you've tried different types of liquid- but just wanted to check... Sometimes for (seemingly) no reason Water makes me nauseous feeling, so I have to change it up with tea or something. Feel better!!

    Body image issue

I'm down almos 100lbs- size 22 to like a 10ish, and honestly, I feel like I'm still 252lbs and a size 22. I mean, my change happened really fast- 6 months, but every day it's a shock when I look in the mirror. My psychologist actually suggested to me (and I think it could have been helpful if I did it along the way) to set aside a few minutes each day to look in a full-length mirror and really notice the differences. It sounds lame, but I found it helpful! Good luck!

    All in one vitamins

I take Bariatric Fusion (buy them online- Get some free samples by emailing them!). Yes, I take 4 chewables per day (or at least 3, sometimes I forget 1), but I don't have to take ANY other supplements. I really like that! (It even has biotin in it!)

    Any Ithaca/syracuse Sleevers?

Awesome!! I hope you have a date soon! Waiting is always So difficult! Things have been rough since the revision. I just want to get better!! I have a stricture. They went in about 2 weeks ago and stretched the opening from my stomach(pouch) to my intestines. They wanted to get the opening a lot bigger than what they could- so they're going in again next week to stretch again. I had so much relief at first- but slowly it's narrowing again... (doctor said that would probably happen). I just have to believe that some day I'll stop vomiting! Haha! After 6 months of it, I can't imagine not throwing up almost on a daily basis! Anyway, I'm excited for you. I'll tell you, it will totally change your life, completely. I thought I had an idea of how much things would change - but I really didn't. Yesterday, I was at the mall alone, and a guy flirted with me! So weird and awkward! (I'm engaged so it's not like I'm looking-but it was so awkward because that hasn't happened since like high school! I had no idea how to react!) I know waiting is hard and there will be times after surgery (in the first few months) where you're seriously thinking "why did I do this?!" but just keep the outcome in mind

    Gonna Shoot MaSelf!

Sounds like you've had it rough for awhile now. Just keep believing that things will turn around and believe that you'll start feeling better, it'll help you stay positive and hopefully, ultimately help you feel better. I know it's hard- but you've been through a lot and you're stronger because of it. Hope you're feeling better soon!

    pain reliever

That's what I take when I have a headache. I just crush up one and it usually does the trick! Good luck & hope you feel better!
  22. It's been a rough day today. Actually, it's been a rough 25 weeks! Some may already know my "story," so I'll just be quick with it. 25 weeks ago, I had the vertical sleeve done. Right away, there were problems. I couldn't keep liquids down. I was told it was a stricture, and had numerous endoscopies done, to no avail. I ended up literally standing constantly, when I wasn't sleeping, in order to let gravity pull liquid through my sleeve so I could stay away from Urgent Care. Finally, on December 17 I was converted to RNY. I can't tell you how difficult it was to go back into the hospital knowing I had to go through all the discomfort again, not to mention my just actual fear of something going wrong - again. I came out okay and able to hydrate myself. Over the past week, I've started vomiting again. (When I had the sleeve I vomited every day, multiple times a day.) I had an upper GI today, and although I don't have official confirmation from the doctor about it yet, it looks like I have a stricture. This is how it all started before... stricture which turned out to be my whole sleeve severly messed up... I'm just not sure how to get through this. When is my bad luck going to end? When will it get better? How do I get through this?
  23. When I'm nervous about a situation like the one you're in I always eat before I go. Then it's easier for me to resist the temptation of the food there and if people try to get you to "just try a bite!" you can truly be honest and say, "I am still so full from my last meal!" Also- I would be careful the first time you eat something that was fried. I have had a homemade oven French fry and been fine. Had a fry from a local deli that my fiancé got a sandwich at (thankfully he brought it home so I was home for this) and I got so sick! I thought I would be fine since I had a "fry" before. :/ (I know some people are fine with deep fried foods). Good luck & have fun!
