RNY 9 days in - record of post surgery progress

[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Grilled haddock...too funny! So far so good with the spinach and I'm soooooo happy. I will definitely have it again tomorrow. I'm in the middle of winter in the USA and it is freezing! Temperatures have been as low as -16°C here, so I'm spending most of my day indoors. We are both living in the extremes it seems.

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

I'm doing pretty good and feeling great. I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery and that is going pretty good. I have been able to ditched soft foods, so it is easier for me to recognize when I'm full. I started walking on the treadmill this week and it is going pretty well. I just need to make sure I don't overdo it, since I still have pain from my largest incision. I've been able to get in all my water, protein, and vitamins without any issues. I'm losing very slow and holding onto a lot of fluid. I think I need to get rid of the cheese and then I will start to see more of a lost. Overall, I am pleased! How are you doing? I know you had an awesome start after surgery. I've been wondering how my surgery buddy is progressing.

Change to type of surgery in surgey

No I didn't. My surgeon knew there would be adhesions (I had 4 abdominal surgeries including the removal of my lapband). It was a tough surgery, but she worked through all the adhesions and it took about 5 1/2 hours for her to do so. The only thing she would have changed during, is making it an open surgery if things got really bad. It is a shame your surgeon would not do the same for you. I would be so disappointed if I had a different surgery. I hope all goes well for you. Let us know how you make out. Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Struggling with aversion

I'm so sorry you are having difficulty. I had some difficulty with protein shakes after surgery. It took a while for me to find something that worked. Now I drink Nectar Lemon tea and I mix it in water. It is not milk based and it has a delicious flavor. They are sold in individual packs, so you try it before spending a lot of money. I picked mine up from the Vitamin Shoppe. You can also get it on Amazon. I hope you are able to get the protein in you need. Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app

RNY 9 days in - record of post surgery progress

I had grilled paddock and a tiny amount of stir fry spinach and it was an amazing dinner. I was going to wait until Saturday, but decided not to wait. Spinach is mild and I stir fried it until it was tender. I knew it would not be difficult to digest since the leaves were so tender. I will let you know tomorrow how it made me feel. I'm below 600 calories as well with what I'm eating too. I am eating cheese everyday. I wonder if that is making me retain fluid. I also wonder if the lack of veggies is a problem too. I'll have to talk to my doctor and I'm also going to add veggies to my diet very soon. I may even stop cheese for a bit to see if that is adding to the problem. Thank so much for your input...it has been very helpful! I never imagined eating such a small amount of food could cause such an issue. Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app

I do not chew until it is liquid, but I chew everything pretty good. I take small bites, so I think that helps when I forget to chew really well. I agree with you about portioning my foods before I eat. I this is also the last surgery for me. I want to be successful and not fail. I have gone through so much to have the surgery and I see it as a gift. Every surgeon is so different. I just may try to add some vegeables this weekend, because I do not have any trouble with foods. I will probably start with spinach (it should be easy to digest). If I have any problems, at least I will not have to worry about going to work the next day. I hope you don't mind me asking: How are you doing with urinating? I'm drinking a lot of water, but I do not eliminate it like I used to. It is like my body is holding onto everything I drink. I do not what is going on. I may have to put a call into my doctor to see if this is normal. Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app

Yogurt and soups do not satisfy me. I eat 4 times per day. Each meal is 3 oz of food. Egg salad, tuna salad, and ground turkey with tomato sauce and cheese are my favorites. I use unflavored protein in sugar free cocoa once a day and I drink Nectar protein drink once a day in my water. My body is trying to get used to everything and it is not easy watching others lose weight and I am not losing anything. I know my body will eventually start to let go of the pounds, I just need to be patient. I am glad to hear your story. I also thought my surgeon did not do my surgery right...lol!! I know she did, because I can not eat as much of the denser proteins. I think I also have trouble with feeling full since I had the lap band. I think the lapband have me scar tissue or my nerves are not as sensitive, it is harder to feel the fullness. During my 5th week (next thur) I will be able to have vegetables. I'm so looking forward to having them again. When do you get to vegetables?

Thank you so much for posting. I needed to hear this from someone who has had the same surgery as me. I had the lap band for almost 8 years and then the bypass. I feel like I can anything at any volume too. I have to measure my food or I would overeat. I do not regurgitate my food as well. In fact, I was feeling something was wrong with me. I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow and I am not losing much. I am hoping for a soon loss in the coming weeks (only 8 lbs down). Please continue to post, it really encourages me.

I'm not quite there weeks out yet, but I already have hunger. My doctor only wants me to eat protein at this point, so no veggies yet.

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

I add Miralax (once a day) to my protein drink and it does not have a flavor. It helps with the constipation. Things I eat during pureed stage: guacamole tuna lentil soup egg salad chili ground turkey refried beans I make sure to get 70-80 grams of protein and more than 64oz of water. I put Genepro protein in my cocoa in the morning and I have Nectar Lemon Tea (also protein) in my water at the end of the day when I'm sick of drinking water...lol. I would look at the foods you already love and see how you can make a softer version. My doctor's office said I did not have to blend my food, I just needed to chew it really well.

7 days post op and i am kicked while down

My doctor's office recommended Nectar protein and I tried it. It is amazing! I have the lemon tea flavor. It actually tastes like tea. I'm glad you were able to find a protein that worked for you as well.

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

Lol...boy do I understand where you are coming from. I am now lactose intolerant and I am having trouble with protein shakes. It has not been easy finding an alternative, but I'm working on it. The light is at the end of the tunnel and I can't wait to get there to pureed and soft foods![emoji4] Sent from my SM-T818T using BariatricPal mobile app

13 days post op and I am struggling with shakes. The ones I love do not love me. I am using an unflavored protein isolate now, but I have to be careful about what I mix it with. I am looking forward to pureed food.
