    October 2012 Bandsters

Today I had a very bad morning and normally I would've gone to a restaurant and eaten some comfort food but instead I went to the gym. I have never felt so good! I also did 4km on the elliptical in 35 mins which is a new record for me!!

First fill hit the exact right spot! Hungry every 3.5-4hours after a cup of food. Best feeling...well next to having put on jeans that used to be skin tight and having to put on a belt!

there is a great thread on carb cycling here by a woman whose status updates I follow (she's lost well over 100 lbs now). She said her scale stuck for weeks and she started this and cannot believe how well it has worked. Basically it is alternating days of carbs and no carbs but apparently it kicks your system into gear. I'm starting it this week!

Had my first post-op fill this morning - had 3ccs in at surgery and now another 2ccs. Needle hurt but I'm so happy to hopefully not be starving every 2 hours anymore!

I Really Dont Get It. Very Disappointed.

I so agree with you! I'm not in this very long, but I nearly fell off the chair when I started measuring and logging. The amount of calories in some food is actually insane! I get such a feeling of personal satisfaction when my fitness pal says "Lindsay completed her log for today and was under her calorie goal!" It's like I beat the game :-)

I Really Dont Get It. Very Disappointed.

i have no major pearls of wisdom for you other than find an OA group so you have people to talk to about it, or even just to make you go somewhere so you aren't sitting around your house with food tempting you. My sister is 10 years sober and still goes to meetings 3 times per week. She says it keeps her accountable. I am a food addict - both in the emotiional sense and just because food tastes so good. Instead of OA, in my surgery package I got the weight counselor at my doctor package so I have a guy who is available all day every day to listen to me b***h if I need to. I know that it's hard, but we are all here for you and there are lots of support groups that don't cost money out there that can help. The only thing stopping you from going to them is you. It may feel a bit awkward, but sometimes in life you gotta just talk it out! You may even make some friends who you can work through dieting together with. I wish you the very very best. <3

well I suppose some people could be experience intolerance of a particular food, or are overeating and so are sick, but most people in this forum are saying they can't eat it yet because they are on restrictions from the diet we are required to follow from the surgery for a few weeks - liquids, purees and then mushies. My friend who has had her band for a year now though can't eat things like bread or steak because it just doesn't sit well in her tiny stomach and it makes her get sick.

I don't know if these answers will fully tell you what you want, but this is what I understand. On the mushies gaining weight thing - no you will not gain weight so long as you are continuing to stay under your calorie limit for the day. A female human burns about 1700-1800 calories per day just to be alive (for heavier people this is higher) - that's sitting there, doing nothing, just continuing on - so even if you go from say 500 calories per day on broth and Jello to 900 calories per day on mushies you will still be well under this requirement and your body will have to use its fat stores just to keep going and make up that difference. You obviously wont be losing as much as you might if you are only doing liquids and jello, but that kind of diet is not sustainable or healthy for long periods of time. You should also focus on protein and veggies rather than carb heavy foods like potatoes, etc. This will also help your body burn more of its fat stores. on the GB vs band thing - I dont know exactly why they loose so much faster, but my understanding is that over a 5 year period, weightloss with both is virtually the exact same. In an incidental conversation where with my weightloss counsellor at my doctor's office about how I didnt understand why you would want to re-route your intestines he said that they would only recommend a bypass if a person literally had like 6 months to live unless they lost weight. It can lead to many issues with nutrient loss and something called dumping syndrome where the person's blood sugars go out of control because the stomach is what is supposed to absorb the sugars. the band may take longer, but there are far less complications, and by losing the weight slower you reduce both heath problems and some things like extra, sagging skin, etc. hope this helps!

That's great! Be careful of your knees though. With extra weight on, knees can be damaged from running too much. That's why I use the elliptical. I did the whole cross country track on the elliptical and upped my distance 10%! Felt like a rock star! Sometimes I can't believe that I am now a "go to the gym" person!

    Exercise Calories On Myfitnesspal

Add me to MFP! Trapplj I don't eat back the calories...weight counsellor said to track exercise in distance and minutes rather than calories and to just take it as a "good for you" that you did the exercise...not a eat for free card.
