  1. Duly noted. Please note that I was offended first. Also, if it doesn't state in bariatric pals rules that all threads be WLS based then please do not dictate the way my threads should go. Being respectful, absolutely. But, you can't make the rules and then change them because the conversation didn't fit your views.

Butterthebean you interpolated your opinion into the conversation followed up with telling me to keep my posts WLS based. If that's how you feel then why did you give an opinion that wasn't WLS based. That seems hypocritical to me. Anyway..

Why did you delete this comment? Because I offended you?

  2. I'm not nearly as up to speed as the rest of you on obamacare or politics but I do work in healthcare. So far I have seen major effects on people with Medicare. They now refuse to cover outpatient infusions for people that have congestive heart failure. These people come in weekly and it would cost them $4000 oop. They can't afford it so now they will have to come into the hospital when they get really sick but ultimately it is a death sentence much sooner than the diagnosis. Next they are after outpatient chemo. It's scary!! Eventually if you are on Medicare and get sick you can kiss your ass goodbye.

Oh my goodness that is terrible!! In some states insurance is giving policies back. Do you live in a state that has made a decision yet?

  4. I'm normally very proud to be an American.....except when one of my fellow countrymen goes on a tirade and insults another nation based on rhetorical inaccuracies. It's embarrassing.

I seem to recall this is a forum about WLS. Let's keep it to that.

So your not proud to be an American now because i insulted somebody from another country whom first insulted America as a whole? What a shame. I'm proud to be an American no matter what.

The rules of this Bariatric app do not suggest that all threads be about WLS. This thread, however, is specifically about a problem with my band and the fact that i can no longer see my dr because due to obamacare my insurance was canceled. I was somlly looking for suggestions I to my problem. I cannot help that other subscribers have commented, merely stating their frustrations, to the current political events leading up to my crisis. Now, if you do not like any of the comments in this thread then I shall respectfully inform you that as a fellow ,Bariatric pal subscriber you can simply just not look, read or reply. My comments certainly are not in the form of a tirade as I am not angry, criticizing or making accusations. I am simply speaking in defense of this country that you were once proud to be a part of.

If you read back through these messages you will see that I updated this thread with my current situation (regarding my lapband) and I thanked everyone for commenting. That included the people with political views I don't share. Thanks and have a great day.

  5. I am not Canadian. I am from New Zealand. You are wrong and misinformed on so many levels on what you say but I don't blame you. I understand that you have had a life time of brainwashing and propaganda shoved down your throat and so your remain confused and ignorant on just what socialised healthcare is.

You are also misinformed on free market economics. America isn't a free market as it gives considerable farm subsidies. New Zealand is more of a free market than the US, we got rid of all those subsidies in the 1980s and haven't looked back. Your economy is less capitalist than mine and yet mine can still support socialised health care. Go figure huh? It is a compassionate conservative model that considers interdependence within society as opposed to the immature dependence/independence thinking of extremists. By the way, my house value has steadily increased since the global financial crisis in 2008 as has my income. Same for most people I know. How's your pure capitalist economy working out for you? I suspect if it was working then you could afford insurance, Christmas for your kids, to get your fills and so on. Is it your own laziness that has led you to the situation where you can't afford what you want? Surely by your own rationale you should just work harder? Madness. Pure madness.

FYI both Britain and Australia still have socialised healthcare of varying degrees, in Britain it is even more socialised than in NZ and in Australia less so. Again , you are misinformed. And the level of your misinformation is so stunningly high that I really can not believe anything you tell me about 'Obamacare' as you don't seem to good at determining fact from scaremongering.

Comparing a 300 Million strong, four-timezone (six timezones if you add HI and AK) MONSTER to NZ is entertainment, nothing more. I laugh at your efforts. USA is still the best place to do business. The opportunities are more abundant and the ability to expand is limitless. In the USA you can grow up poor and die rich leaving millions to 4 generations. In NZ you work just to live. In NZ people cash in their holidays just to get by and make it paycheck to paycheck. Wages are not competitive in NZ. As a matter of fact wages are in the pooper. Usa is way more developed and advanced from malls, theatres, sport, colleges, etc My income in the US allows me to live very comfortably, with numerous choices, high quality everything. I do work a lot. No doubt about it. But 10% of my check goes directly into savings. My husbands too. So you see, i can afford a fill, however, i never touch my savings and it is never included in our budget. Ever! In NZ I'd be poor, living in squalor with fewer choices. You said if my pure capitalist country was working for me then id be able to afford insurance and christmas. Are you a complete idiot? Because this entire posting has been about me paying for my own health care and the ACA caused it to be cancelled. My insurance, that i pay for on my own, paid for my surgery and ALL 8 of my fills. I love living free. I love going to work and paying for my OWN healthcare. It's so rewarding.

In NZ interest rates are high. Mortgages can not be fixed for 30 years like in the US. I feel if you are ambitious which you should be, then your chances are better in a bigger country like the US. NZ IS lousy for business and not a place to aspire to become someone big. If someone wanted to move to NZ my advice would be Make your bucks and then move to NZ. I would, however, tell them their life expectancy will be cut in half since everyone knows KIWIS CANNOT DRIVE. Suicide rates are higher. The only thing that's abundant in NZ is meth. Oh and let's not forget your economy thrives on tourism.

  6. What uninformed and paranoid nonesense. The socialised health care in my country has worked well for many, many decades. As it has in many other thriving western free market economies.

Canada? Lol ok. Is that why so many Canadians come to the US for healthcare? Canada can't even afford their own military. How many people are in the military now 4 or 5? Socialism is a bankrupt, discredited, and flawed nineteenth century theory that has failed miserably in countries around the world. The only thing socialism has brought is poverty, misery and tyranny. It doesn't work in Cuba, China, Europe (except Poland), East Germany, Venezuela, Soviet Russia...Canada cant even afford its own damn military!

Number one reason it doesn't work

GREED. The people writing the policies create loopholes for themselves to take advantage of. Our socialist government recently fid that.

Let's not forget LAZINESS. People are no longer as motivated to work for their success, because their basic needs are met. Socialism has failed in other countries because it eliminates the incentive to work. Australia and Britain, have briefly flirted with Socialism. Needless to say they are no longer a socialist society! We need more capitalism! 3 reasons

Only businesses create wealth by selling goods and services. This creates jobs. Government cannot create wealth; it can only transfer resources. Free enterprise, not the government, reduces poverty and generates jobs. The government’s War on Poverty begun in the 1960s has been an abject failure and has led to dependency, not to employment self-sufficiency. And that is the goal!!

  7. UPDATE: My band has completely settled down. In my opinion it tightened up due to my monthly cycle. I haven't had a cycle in two years so this was my first one with the band. I'm guessing it's because of Water retention. Everything seems fine now and if I have another cycle I'm going on liquids!!!! Thank you to everyone that responded!

  8. There's no guarantee of that your policy could have been cancelled for any number of reasons the insurance company is just blaming the ACA. In fact before the ACA they could have cancelled your policy and then refused to offer you a new one noting the surgery as a pre-existing condition. Under the ACA they have to offer you something it just might be too expensive.

I've had my insurance for almost ten years. Your grasping for reasons to stay in this conversation. Just stop. Your trying to sell your opinion while getting blasted with facts.

  9. The sun rose yesterday and the sun rose today this is also a fact that has nothing to do with the ACA.

Your insurance company chose to end your policy rather than revise it. Your insurance company based that decision on assessment of the risk pool covered by that policy the ACA was definitely an influencing factor but so where countless other economic concerns that result in plans being cancelled and premiums being increased every year. Insurance plans were cancelled before the ACA it just may not have ever happened to you before.

The sun isn't mentioned in the ACA? Here's another fact. I was promised I could keep my insurance by the President of the United States and all along he knew I couldn't. I loved my insurance. My insurance company was kind enough to provide me with bariatric surgery and they've paid for all of my fills. Obamacare offers nothing for bariatric patients. Again, if there was no ACA I would still have my insurance. Before ACA I had insurance. After ACA I lost my insurance.

  10. You are engaging in a lot of hyperbole and frankly spouting emotional nonsense you have every right to be upset with your situation but your assignment of blame and understanding of core issues appears irrational. Feel free to vent nonsense but I will keep pointing out that it is nonsense.

You'll continue to point out nonsense? Let me guess, you still have your insurance? I'm not spouting off out of frustration. I'm spouting facts. And to quote 2muchfun

Before obamacare I had insurance. After insurance I dont. Those are the facts.

  11. I disagree. 5 million sounds like a lot but it's approximately 5% last time I checked; compared to over 50 million people with pre-existing conditions who can now purchase insurance rather than relying on Medicaid and Medicare exclusively that number doesn't include people who could not afford insurance at all before but could no buy subsidized insurance which still costs less in the long run due to preventative care being accessible.

So I agree the ACA has flaws but I can't agree with hyperbole like "100% disaster" the data seems to indicate it's been an improvement in the nations healthcare system overall despite some harsh specific shortcomings that will need to be addressed.

5 million doesn't seem like a lot? What if that were money. Would 5 million seem like a lot then? The ACA was unwrapped plagued with major problems. I've lost my insurance and I can't sign up because the website is an utter failure. Only 50,000 a day can sign up with no crashes. I work 75, sometimes 80 hours a week just to make ends meet. I did what I'm supposed to and I should be rewarded with insurance that I'm paying for myself. I didn't ask for any entitlements. I go to work and then I come home and take care of my family. Now all the bums who REFUSE TO WORK are entitled to the same benefits as us hard working Americans and I'm paying and suffering for it. I've taken off work all week because I can't function with my band like this. I can't pay out of pocket because I have 4 teens to feed and buy Christmas for. I've worked my ass off for years and my thanks is, congratulations. ...you no longer have insurance and the insurance we're gonna FORCE you to buy comes with much higher premiums all so everything is fair and equal in the world. If this is such a good program then why does the government say this applies to everyone except for them. Socialism! I pray everyday the GOP repeals this.

  12. The said truth is millions more people will benefit. I don't ignore the people who've lost their insurance I'm just not assigning blame the same way you are. I used to sell insurance I'm fully aware that the insurance companies were simply taking advantage of people by offering policies that looked effective but were actually horribly designed for any type of catastrophic care. I'm glad the substandard nature of those policies have finally been exposed.

Lol your right. They've been exposed by a very "honest" government who is more then willing to take your money and provide you with "great healthcare". What could go wrong when the government gets involved? Lol that's a laugh

  13. This seems like the food and nutrition section, not "let's complain about politics" section. This thread needs to be closed and you need to take your hot topic bs elsewhere. I didn't join this site to talk politics.

I guess since you didn't take the time to read I'll enlighten you. My band is waaaaay too tight. For lunch I spent a half hour in the bathroom trying to yack up Tomato Soup. I NEED an un-fill and my dr won't see me because I no longer have insurance (all because of obamacare) and I can't afford to pay out of pocket. So. Kindly remove yourself from my discussion or give me some frickin advice that will help me.

  14. I simply disagree with your assessment and don't feel this is the right venue for this discussion.

Then feel free to leave this discussion. I didn't force you to get involved, sir. I have a major problem here and i can't see my dr. If there was no ACA I could simply go get an un-fill.

  15. I hope the ACA isn't repealed I've seen a lot of families who were denied coverage in the past finally get coverage. It needs improvement but It's a step forward from what I see. Your mileage may vary but I see more good than bad so far. I see more fear mongering than facts and I'm definitely more of an evidence over anecdote kind of guy.

I do think the thread title has steered us off the original posters real concern and into more politics than bariatric concerns.

So your happy that those families are now getting insurance. ...are you completely ignoring the fact that millions have LOST their insurance. I need an un-fill in a very bad way and my insurance was canceled. I worked hard for my insurance. And now it's gone! The thread title is doing what it's designed to do.... Expose failures in our failed presidents law.

  16. Your blaming the government for a decision made by your insurance company. All insurance is socialist by nature it only works if the insurance pool shares risk the larger the pool the less individual risk; the alternative is to pay for all medical expenses from personal savings. I'm not arguing which system is better I'm just pointing out a basic detail of how insurance works.

I'm absolutely blaming the government because if it weren't for Obamacare I'd still have my insurance! The ACA set minimum standards for all individual health insurance policies so the ACA FORCED CANCELLELATION OF MY INSURANCE!! The insurance companies are simply complying with the law. Under federal law, the carriers had to accompany the cancellations with an offer of replacement insurance. In many cases, premiums for those policies ARE much higher. People most likely to be offered renewals of relatively cheap, noncomplying policies are young, healthy Americans. If those people do not participate in the health insurance exchanges, the concern is that the premiums charged to those who do enroll – older, and less healthy people– will be insufficient to support future claims. The result would be higher rates for everyone the following year. BIG SHOCK!

Just wait until the "employer mandates" kick in next year!! Millions more will be without insurance, allthanks to Obama and the Democrats paranoid desire to "just pass something".

Socialism has never worked in any society. It won't work now either.

  17. Yes otherwise women would all have to pay more insurance even though they don't really get pregnant by themselves. In order for insurance to work we all have to share the risks even when we may personally be immune to them.

THAT IS 100% SOCIALISM!! Why should I share the risk? When I went to college no one shared their credits with me. What's the difference? Our very large and very stupid government is leading us into a very dangerous dictatorship. Obama said " They’re going to have to give up paying for things that don’t make them healthier. … If there’s a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half for the thing that’s going to make you well.” Does that sound like a government that will stay out of your healthcare decisions? That is VERY SCARY! Obamacare is a massive intrusion in the doctor-patient relationship, micromanaging how health care should be delivered to patients. When the government is given this much authority and discretion, it does not result in higher-quality care for patients. Rather, it leads to price controls and one-size-fits-all regulations that misallocate resources and will lead to headaches for doctors and problems for patients trying to access health care. More socialism!

To achieve a health care system where patients come first, Congress must not embrace the flawed and failed policies in Obamacare. Instead, Congress must use this opportunity to offer an alternative vision for the future of health care—a future where individuals get better care at lower cost without government controlling the dollars and decisions.

If you like your policy you can keep it! Tell that to my freaking lapband!!!

  18. Is it possible for food to get stuck right above the band for several days? I know I need to go to the dr but I can't because my insurance was canceled and I can't afford to go. Thanks Obamacare!!!!

Here's the problem: I had my 8th or 9th fill in October. I had perfect restriction! Then the day after Thanksgiving I couldn't get ANYTHING down. Sliming like crazy etc. I never feel nauseous, never have acid etc. No major problems. Just super tight. I'm wondering if I have food above my band preventing me from getting stuff down. I can get all fluids down including Protein Shakes with no problems at all. Last night I was even able to get some nachos down. Before this I could swallow fish oil pills. Big ones!

I started my monthly cycle Thanksgiving Day and I put on a couple pounds too! I just can't figure out, why after a month of being fine, I'm soo tight now. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

  19. TOM=Time Of Month

.1 from here on out will take an eternity.

I wish there was a way to do these fills from home.

Considering the drive every other week to my clinic along with my work schedule, it jst seems like it can all be avoided some how.

I have lost nothing by the way.

I can lose 3-5lbs the first week after the fill bcuz of the irritation & swelling & 3 days liquids, and then gain it all back the second week.

    My adjustments are bi-weekly.

Do you still feel hungry quite a bit? In the beginning I hardly lost anything and was so Pissed I wasted money on this stupid band. THEN I hit green zone and everything became very clear. It's ALL about saturating your hunger. The restriction isn't restricting how much you can eat. It restricts your hunger so you just don't want to eat. I feel full for 4 hours or more and it took me 8 or 9 fills to get there. I know another girl on here who took 8 fills to hit her sweet spot. Battling my mental hunger is still very hard for me.

My advice, eat things that you have to chew the crap out of to swallow. That'll fill you up fast and keep you full longer. I eat a lot of grilled chicken on my salads and I buy the grilled chicken already prepared from Walmart.< /p>

  20. Oh wow. I think id be satisfied at 9cc's.

But the way my fills have been going lately itll be many more months before i get there. When i go back in 2 weeks im only gonna get .1cc!

    I use to get 1.5, then 1.0, then .5, then .3

And I guess im not tight enough to fill the restriction during TOM bcuz i felt nothing when it was here so i gave in to the TOM cravings.

Help me out. What is TOM?

It took me forever to hit green zone. My problem is chips. I've lost 30 pounds but probably could have lost more had I not been eating chips. I've given them up and lost 6 lbs last month.

My fills were like yours. 1's, 5's then 3's. I just got to where I don't feel hungry all the time but I still battle my mental hunger.
