  1. @b52 I think the word "drink" is an over-statement. I drink when I'm not eating but while I'm eating I do sip water. I don't take a bite followed with an immediate sip of water. I do it in-between. This is extremely beneficial to lapbanders who are constantly thirsty and tend to guzzle to quench thirst. I'm always thirsty and always have a drink. My husband calls me big thirsty lol. When I eat I get extremely thirsty and sipping water helps because I have tendency to guzzle.

    Fills and Weight Loss

Awwww your sweet this weight loss thing is hard isn't it? I had a fill today. I'm pretty sure its my last one. I think its my 6th fill. I've lost 24 lbs.......in 7 months! Ha! Yea. My hunger is really dwindling. I don't even feel.like snacking right now and I always feel like snacking in the evenings. I'm hoping I'm in the green zone. We'll see.....

    Fills and Weight Loss

I don't think she was suggesting your stupid. She's trying to tell you that losing 7lbs in that amount of time means you are still losing weight. For me, I was losing 4 pounds a month until my 5th fill and now I'm losing about 7lbs a month.

    First fill

Yes. You can basically have anything that is the same consistency as water. Have all the broth you want lol.
  5. The rule of not drinking while eating is old school lapband rules. Your allowed to drink while eating now. My surgeon, nurse practitioner and nurses just got back from a lapband conference in, Las Vegas and now they say drinking while eating does not push the food on through as originally thought. Instead it acts like a washing machine keeping that food moving around in the pouch. In essence it helps to keep you fuller, longer. This doesn't mean your allowed to guzzle. Drink like normal. One small drink at a time. If your thirsty, one small drink every 15 seconds. If drinking makes you full faster then make sure you eat your protein before drinking.

    need an idea?

My husband is taking me to, Applebee's tonight and I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on what I can eat? I need something that'll go down easy.

    HELP!

I was banded January 2013. By day 4 I was allowed cream of wheat, cottage cheese, applesauce etc. things of that consistency. My doctor didn't want my stomach to actually digest, yet didn't want me to starve either. I took it super easy, however, taking small bites and eating slow. Everyone's Dr tells them different. I listened to mine, ate what he told me and I'm fine. I don't think it'd kill ya to have a mushy.

    The Burrito!

First, ill start by saying I'm ashamed. Second, I'm still a fat person what do you expect? Sunday evening I made homemade burritos for my family. I always make a ton of food so I made 2 full casserole dishes. Everyone ate, got full and there were two remaining burritos. I shared one with my toddler so I ate about 3/4. Don't judge me. Anyhow, I wrapped the two remaining burritos in foil and put them in the fridge. I made myself very clear to ALL my kids that NO ONE is to touch my burritos. At this point I have clearly forgotten that I'm a bandster. But, I went ahead and threatened em anyway. Now keep in mind, I'm 36 years old and I have 4 teenagers & a toddler under 2. They are 19, 17, 15, 13 & almost 2. So I have to keep a close eye on my foods because these kids are animals when it comes to eating. They all take sports and they are ALWAYS eating. Someday ill write a blog all about my grocery bill. Ok back on subject. So, its midnight and I'm still awake. If I'm up this late then I start feeling all snacky. I'm laying in bed and its totally dark in my house. All of a sudden I see a faint light in the hallway. Its not the hallway light. Its the refrigerator light! Ah hell no! I sneak down the hall, go left to the kitchen and peek around the cabinet. My son is taking a bite of my burrito! You can guess what happened from here right? Needless to say I wrapped my burritos back in foil and placed them safely in the refrigerator. Next day its lunch time. Yaaay me I get burritos!! Heat them "both" up ( minus one huge bite) and begin to take my tiny bites. Obviously I'm full before I finish the first one so I stop eating. My son is home on his lunch break. He's starving. I have 1 and 1/4 burrito left. I can't eat the rest but I'm protecting them like a lioness protecting her cub. I tell him to make a sandwich and chips. In the end.......I let him have the burritos! I need a fill! Lol

    5th fill

Just had my 5th fill. I'm not gonna say my 5th and final because I thought my 4th fill was my final fill. I don't know why but, every time I go I feel like, "ok this is the magic dose and now I'm gonna get skinny". I guess lapband is a disappointment in that regard because its such a slow process. I, however, am also thankful for my lapband because I don't want all the skin issues, bypass patients get. Yes, they lose weight fast, but some gain it all right back because, unlike lapband, when they stretch its permanent. My sister had bypass and lost a 100 lbs. I became the fat sister. 8 years later she's put about 30 back on and now I have lapband. Needless to say she's already contacted a surgeon about band over bypass lol. Come on 5th fill!! Make me skinny! I know it doesn't work like that but I use my band correctly so I know the weight is gonna start really falling off. I'm not gonna be the fat sister. Hopefully it won't be her either. We're sending "fat" vibes towards our skinny sister. Its her turn lol!

    5th fill

Brianb its so funny you mention chips. When I said I love salsa I failed to mention I eat it with chips. I don't eat a lot, however, I'm not totally cutting all of my favorite foods out of my life. I'm losing weight, I eat healthy and I allow myself carbs. I agree with you 100%. Carbs are the bodies main source of energy and I refuse to stop eating them. I don't go overboard. But I do eat them. I also allow myself to eat sweets. I control it though and its not everyday. Just a treat here and there.

    Today's The Day!!

Milk of magnesia was my best friend! It cleans your intestines top to bottom with no cramping. And it helps you pass gas! Get some!

    5th fill

Smiles4di wow! I wanna lose at the speed you are. Brianb I know you do as well lol! That is awesome! Is your hunger controlled? What are your daily eating habits like? Thank you for sharing. That's definitely inspirational. I recently discovered these Hormel meals that are absolutely delicious and my favorite one has 26g of Protein. Granted, its not low fat but with portion control and the band I'm losing. I eat a lot of cucumbers. I CRAVE salsa. I crave it so much I eat it about 3 times a day. I sprinkle Protein powder on it. I'm still learning foods I should be eating. What are your, guys/girls, eating habits like?

    Today's The Day!!

Good luck! Welcome to the wonderful world of lapband! Don't forget, your pain after surgery is from the gas. Walk walk walk.

    5th fill

Lol!!!! Yes, it will be a huge relief! It'll be nice to wear a belt that isn't 10 ft long and shirts that aren't baggy (as if baggy ever hid my rolls). I'm going thru my closet questioning some of my clothing choices as a fat person. Eeek.

    5th fill

I'm at 7.8 cc now. She told me with this one or the next I should hit my sweet spot. It seems like everything hinges on the sweet spot so I have this ideology that when i hit it, ill have mastered my lapband lol. I know its dumb to think the weight is gonna fall off but I've seen it happen for some. I'm doing everything correctly and I'm losing. I wish I could have been skinny for summer but oh well. Ill be skinny for winter.

    5th fill

Lol I know I know. But.....I still hope for magic at each fill. I just weighed myself and I've already lost 6 oz. Ha! Seriously though, I know its a long process and I'm thankful for each pound I shed.

    Weight lose stopped

With most plateau's, you have to trick your body. Add a little fat to your daily diet for a week the resume your normal eating pattern. That is what my personal trainer told me a few years ago and it worked like a charm. Its all about tricking your body.

    Weight lose stopped

It is absolutely because you need a fill. Try to do your best at controlling the volume in which you eat and control hunger with fiber. I was in the same boat. Started to really lose with my 4th fill. Its a long process
  19. For me restriction is not feeling hungry anymore. Restriction to me is also making better food choices because when I make poor food choices it hurts and I gag up about 3 lbs of spit. Restriction is no more big bites. When I take big bites it gets stuck and the inside of my mouth is at about 95% humidity lol. When you look up restriction in the dictionary it says "a limitation on the use or enjoyment of property". If you enjoy eating then restriction limits the amount of joy you get from eating. Food is no longer the temptress of my thoughts or the highlight of my day. It means something different to everyone. Restriction customarily governs behavior.

    Being stuck?

Get used to mucus! When you get stuck (not if, but when) do not swallow the saliva your mouth is forming. Spit it out. Your mouth instinctively makes mucus to help the "stuck food"slide down your esophagus. For bandsters, it makes it worse. Have you ever been so thirsty that you took too big of a drink and when you swallowed that big drink it hurt real bad. That's what being stuck feels like. It hurts, but its manageable. Small small small bites. And chew!!!!!!
  21. I know its an old thread. Just wondering if you chose the sleeve?

    mental hunger

I'm having a hard time stopping myself from eating too much and keep getting full. Recognizing the soft stop is hard. I think I need one more fill. I'm hoping this last one stops my mental hunger. I'm terrified of stretching my pouch. How easy is it to stretch your pouch? I wish I knew more about the lapband before I chose it. They just kind of flew me into surgery and now I'm learning as I go. I still love my band though!
  23. jaye282

    mental hunger

Brianb I totally agree. I have an appointment on the 25th for my 5th, and hopefully last, fill. I'm at 7.3 in a 10cc. It seems like that's a lot and that I should already be in green zone. We'll see. I hope this happens fast. I'm tired of being hungry.
  24. jaye282

    mental hunger

Its very hard! Plus, the agony of "uh oh, bread isn't getting stuck. Did I stretch my pouch, dilate my esophagus, slip my band"? Do I need another fill? I've gotta get the soft stop mastered. I've gotta stop getting full and start taking one bite a minute.
  25. jaye282

    mental hunger

@ lose I will, do you feel like your over eating? I do. I keep getting full and full is bad for the band. I'm still losing weight, however, I just keep getting full.
