  1. This is too funny! Pete & Eldas is one of my favorites. Surf Taco too.

I was banded at 7:30am this morning at Jersey Shore Medical Center. The surgery was WAY easier than I thought! Almost no pain from the wound. No shoulder pain at all. I was home by 2pm.

Now' date=' I must admit I am scared shitless. My wife and I USED to eat out almost every night but the last few weeks of this liquid pre-op hell has put a screeching halt to that. Feel sorry for my poor wife.

I have no idea how I am going to do this. 30 years of bad habits will be hard to break. Nothing better than a Taylor Ham and scrambled egg sandwich for Breakfast. Or maybe a Bagel Masters bagel. And then it is just downhill from there. Oh did I mention 2 or 3 big gulp diet cokes every day?

I have been lurking here for a few months for encouragement and glad I went thru with it. But I am afraid my past will be hard to break.

Ironically, I am rarely on these boards anymore but decided to see what's new. I'm assuming Kipnis did your surgery.

Did you have to see a nutritionist? I saw Debbie Blair. She was great. I lost 30 pounds with her help before my surgery so luckily I didn't need a pre op diet.

  2. My last Meal was the Chinese Buffet on 36 in Eatontown' date='..I knew I would NEVER set foot in there again.....

Forget kelly's around st. Patrick's day.....anyway there is not much there I can eat......burgers, sandwiches are no more....have not been there in years...

I've been banded over 2 years...don't get around to the restaurants they way we used to because I no longer eat the foods I used to...became very picky

    .....Asbury park for my Birthday....

Used to love surf taco..but cannot handle the rice now....have not been to the Circus in over 2 years....

What town do you live in? we are in Wall, just south of Belmar[/quote']

I am from Wall. I actually responded to one of your posts a while ago and mentioned it. :-) I grew up by the Bel Air golf course. And every Saturday night in the summer, you can find me at Wall Stadium.

I was banded 11/29 at Jersey Shore. Dr. Kipnis did my surgery.

I will probably take my kids to The Circus this summer. We love that place. I haven't had any problems eating any kind of foods at all so far so I will probably just have half a hot dog.

I am in Manchester now. Have you always lived in the Wall area?

  3. HEY HEY NOW.......Do you have any idea how many T-shirts I have for eating the x-large pizza's all by myself? I use to put people to shame...little did I know I was the one looking foolish....

Pete and Elda's is the only pizza that I can still eat' date=' although only one slice...super thin like a cracker....I cannot handle anything doughy....

There is another place on Ocean that has pizza like that.....

In a few months the "Bennies" will be back and you won't be able to find a place to park there...let alone get a table....

But I'm not big on Italian food anymore either....pasta....[/quote']

I went 2 days before my surgery, thinking it would be my last time. Luckily, it wasn't. I went about a month ago. Ooh, it was dee-lish. Have you tried Vic's? Haven't had their pizza in years but I have friends who think their pizza is better. I totally disagree!

I have had regular pizza but stop at 1 slice (I used to eat 3 or 4) but I learned to eat it slowly and cut it.

Haven't ventured to Kelly's for a reuben yet, but if I don't soon I will never get there. You're right, the bennies will be here before you know it!

  4. Banded (2/18/13) ..Looking for a snack...3 weeks post op.. first fill due 3/18/13..let me know whatcha think and what's good...thanks

I used to have a Laughing Cow cheese wedge for a snack, too. I ate it with a cocktail fork to make it last longer. Also, Vita Tops or Vita Muffins. I still have a Vita Top every night and I am 3 1/2 months post surgery.

Also, I honestly can't remember if I was eating crackers at 3 weeks (I want to say I waited a month?) however, one of my friends on here who was banded the same day as me was eating Ritz crackers 7-10 days post op WITH her doctor's permission and she had no issues.

  5. That's great!!!! How are you feeling? I couldn't believe how I felt on day 3. Turkey chili... Hmm' date=' believe you just answered my question about what to fix tomorrow night.. Thanks!!! LOL[/quote']

I made it a couple of week ago and froze it. Soooo glad I did. And the weather we are having here in the Northeast says chili is a must! :-)

I didn't think I was going to get through the night last night. All I could think about was what I was going to eat today. No lie. My stomach was growling so bad that I couldn't even get comfortable. But I survived!

  6. I can't imagine what you're going through with your toe. I am a pedicure kinda girl and I get one regardless of whether I need it or not. I have always been lucky but my friend's daughter also had to have her big toe nail removed because of infection from a pedi. It is a rough recovery and she didn't even have the complications you did. Listen to everything your doctor says because this is really serious. Good luck!

  7. I am 2 1/2 months post op. Two fills, now at 6cc. Had a nice Breakfast (Hungry Girl Hula Scramble) containing plenty of Protein. As soon as I eat I can feel it just sitting in my throat. I don't choke on any of my food. I have never had a stuck episode or a PB as some of you refer to. It sort of burns the back of my throat. Nothing terribly painful but annoying nonetheless. It does go away a little while after eating. Not even 2 hours later I feel like I am starving. However, I just drink Water and wait til it's been 4 hours untiI eat again. I don't think I'm too tight because I would think I would not be so hungry and as I said, nothing has come back up. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

  8. My doctor said drinking with a straw was ok.

I started using a straw the day of surgery and have had no issues at all.

I would check with your doctor.

    Tom' date=' Toronto

    Banded July 6 06

    Wt. Loss: 156 lbs[/quote']

Funny, cause even when I was in the hospital I, too, was given a straw to drink with. I still use them with my Protein shakes and don't have any issues.

  9. I compared my post surgery emotions to when I had postpartum depression. I was a mess. No one told me beforehand I would go through this. The pain medication had nothing to do with mine because I only took 3 pills after surgery. I think it is because you're just on liquids and your body is craving comfort foods. Your relationship with food is suddenly changing. I would fall apart just opening the bag of Protein to make a shake. Hang in there, it gets better. I don't always get on this board so if you want to talk more, email me, jhbinnj@aol.com. For me, the emotions were way worse than the surgery, gas, incision pain, etc.

  10. When I told my Dr. I was having problems with red meat' date=' he said most of his patients cannot tolerate ground beef....

I tried ground turkey, etc, but that did not work...all they're doing is trying to replicate the texture of ground beef...so the effects for me were the same.....

Because of the overwhelming health benefits, I took it as an opportunity to stop eating all Red meat altogether....and I CAN tell the difference....[/quote']

Any idea why they said no ground beef? I made turkey chili for dinner last night and nothing got stuck but I did notice my reflux was worse than usual.

  11. Ladies lets check back in. Last post for me was 1/18 since I lost 4lbs very upset and after reading last post realized that semi what i have fell back to some old habits enough is enough ready to take back what's mine "skinny" food vs me it's on...

I don't regret any decision in my life because at the end I will make it work

I am down 30 since surgery on 11/29. I have lost a total of 60 since I started with my nutritionist. I have had 2 fills so far and I'm at 6cc. I go to the gym a few times a week but I am at a very slow pace in the exercise classes. I like to use the treadmill and elliptical and walk outside when the weather allows me to. I miss the occasional beer/soda and nachos/junk food lol, but I know the sacrifices will be worth it in the end. Oh, and the only food I have not tried post surgery is steak. I've even had a pork chop, chicken, veal, and a hot dog.
