    tube aftrr surgery

The ng tube is not typically used in sleeve surgery...but ask your surgeon and they will tell you what they typically use (like drains etc.)

    Rash

My hubby had this same thing happen with Percocet. It went away after a few days and of ourselves when he stopped the percocets.

    Totally inappropriate question

Great question! My hubby kept joking with me that he would make sure I got my daily protein in...but come to think of it, I don't think he was joking...lol. All he kept doing post op is making tons of "protein" jokes....
  4. I had to buy new bras post op...cause that is where the weight came off first (figures!)..but because I think the size will change some more over time I bought some Genie bras from Walmart so I will get more use out of them. They do run small though so I would go up a size from what the package says. They are made of a nylon type material for stretch and they are inexpensive.
  5. I thought the drain coming out was the worst part of this process. HOWEVER, in retrospect I think the physicians assistant that pulled it out did NOT release the suction so it was pulling my insides out when she was pulling it. So just make sure they open that valve! As far as your other pain, everybody is different so it is hard to predict your level of pain and how long it will last when pain is subjective. For the feeling of fullness, I am not sure I have the hang of it yet, just eat about 2 oz of food slowly and see if you feel ok with it...I can eat about 4ounces now and I do feel full (same sensation as before surgery) but it took awhile to know when I was full.

  10. Here are some online screening tests to see if you do have any characteristics of someone with depression at this time: http://www.depressedtest.com/ http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/interactive/interactivetests/goldberg.php http://depression.about.com/cs/diagnosis/l/bldepscreenquiz.htm I did these and one said I had seasonal affect disorder (cause I hate winter), the other said I am not likely to have depression and the other one said I did NOT have depression. Moral of the story is that depression can come and go and one day you answer questions differently than another day....much of it is situational...which is NOT like the chemical imbalance depression. If you go through big life changes like a divorce, most likely it will say you are depressed HOWEVER there is a valid reason for the depression and once that stressor is over, things should improve. The real problem is those that have depression not related to a situation or life event...most likely it is caused by a chemical imbalance and may require medication. This is where I fall into....so it is funny the "tests" say I am not depressed...but that is because of my Lexapro...love that ****! Good luck to you, I hope your primary Doc can fix the situation for you!
  11. What I like is that she is a psychologist telling you that you need a psychologist to prescribe meds...if she felt that strongly about it, why didn't SHE prescribe them...at least your initial dose. Maybe your primary can overrule her since your primary may know you better. My primary is pretty upfront and I can go in and ask for stupid things like a note for a "mental health day" and get it if I need it. Maybe start with your primary and see where to go from there...you primary will have to clear you for surgery so maybe they will write you a note saying if signs and symptoms of depression occur, they will prescribe you something but for now, you have no signs or symptoms.

  13. I had my surgery a month ago and now it is his turn. Been at the hospital since 6am, they took him back a little after 7:30am and now I wait and wait and wait! I am worried though because he almost died getting the endoscopy...in fact they could not do it. They gave him meds to knock him out, he was still wide awake and they kept pumping him with meds until he completely stopped breathing, his Oxygen level fell and his heart rate plummeted. They had to bag him to bring him back, monitored him and do like 3 EKGs and then he was fine. So they are doing the endoscopy under general prior to his sleeve surgery. I know they will be doing the breathing for him so it is all in the surgeon and ultimately God's hands. Hopefully he will have an easy recovery!

My hubby is in surgery now

Spent the night last night with the hub...had to help him out of bed every hour...still dry heaving until about 3 am then he started throwing up blood...only about 1/4 cup so the doc changed him to phenergan for the nausea. It helped a little. The PA from the surgeons office came in and said this was "normal". I asked with all the dry heaving and puking if it would do damage to his sutures/staples, she said no. I left the hospital at 7am to come home and sleep! He had his leak test and it was fine (I am shocked) but he did have reflux. So currently his blood sugars are still running high and he needs insulin coverage, his BP has been high too so he is getting IV meds for that. Called hospital at 3pm, he is still dry heaving but less, running a fever now ( has been able to take 1 or 2 sips of beef broth but obviously not enough to get him out of there on his own. I am hoping they still keep him today too. We are an hour away from the hospital, I would not take a stray dog to our local hospital here so my big fear is having him come home...still puking, still in a lot of pain and end up being dehydrated or with a leak! I am soooo glad I went first or else seeing what is going on with him, I might have chickened out! Hopefully things will improve!
  15. My seminars had a lot of "small people" initially but as we went through the process, they seemed to drop out so by the time I went to the final seminar, right before surgeries, it was all fatties like myself...lol.

    Eat or drink protein?

I guess it also depends on the protein...it should be the whey isolate protein...I don't know how I would be able to get in all of my protein by food versus the shakes or drinks since they are so packed with protein plus it counts as a liquid....

Pre op was the toughest for me...it will get better and easier

My hubby is in surgery now

Ok he is finally asleep....I had to go home (an hour away) to let the dog out and then drive back because he wanted his pillow and blankets from home...I brought them, he decided he was hot and didn't want them! I think he just wanted me to stay the night here....so here goes sleeping on a chair..... I think I am in store for a lot of babying this next two weeks or so....men are so bad! Lol...I love my hubby and am glad he is sleeping. They will be back for more meds at 11pm...Ancef and heparin along with some more IV pepcid. Oh and by the way don't push the PCA button for your hubby or they will kill you here...they said it is assault....LOL.
  19. Did I do the math right? 50 lbs gone, 75 still to go...

My hubby is in surgery now

Doc came out said everything was fine but that he has a big esophagus and he asked me why....I said I didn't know and he asked if he "stuffs food" and of course he has/does...so the Doc said he can't do that after surgery! Like no duh! They may keep him in hospital for an extra day or at least hold him until tomorrow evening. I have to wait another 2 hours to see him while he is in recovery so out to breakfast I go. Bob Evans has a great yogurt with fruit..probably not low fat but I hardly eat any.
  23. Way to go! What a huge difference!

    6 Days Gone

I would really get a lot of head hunger if I had to cook regular food for the rest of my family. I know you can't give them liquids but try and switch everyone to healthier eating habits...even if they are not overweight...eating whole foods like unprocessed fruits, veggies, whole grains etc....it can be a family adventure in eating. Good luck to you!
