nxtsbjt got a reaction from 2muchfun in 2.5 Months Out. Plateau. Ugh.
I was getting frustrated also, walking everyday, going to the gym 6-7 days a week, hungry between meals. The nutritionist informed me that it was called "lap-band hell" and it could take 4-6 fills until it gets to the green zone (which is 24-36 weeks! if anyone is counting lol). But I got the band for the "consequences", cant get a case of the F-its. I was measured at the gym tonight after a month, I lost 8 lbs & 7.5 inches for a total of 33 since 07/19/12, so not too shabby. I have to remember this when I get the feelings that this isnt working. I get my 2nd fill 10/8/12, I have no idea how much is in there now, I just know its not enough lol but it will change . GOOD LUCK all

Hey all. This is mostly just a check in.
I had surgery July 11th and I'm down about 35 pounds and I've lost a 22 total inches since surgery. I'm pretty pleased but starting to get discouraged. I've been at a plateau for about three weeks now.
I've started doing Crossfit training about a month ago and initially saw good loss and now it's tapered off. I have no idea if I'm eating enough or too much. My daily calorie intake bounces around 1000-1500. On days I don't work out I tend to eat less, but a few hours after cross fit I want to eat everything.in.the.world. Trying to watch carbs - no more than a 100 gms a day and ussually less, and mostly from potatos. I've had a hard time getting ahold of the nutritionist so I'm feeling a little lost.
I have my second fill tomorrow (which couldn't come soon enough) as I only have 1cc in my band and hardly feel any restricition at all. I'm hoping that tomorrow I can get a few more cc's in there to be noticeable.
Anyway, if anyone has any feed back that would be wonderful. If not, hey just checking in and hope Bandland is treating the rest of you well.

We have one forum member, B-52 is his handle, and his quote, that is so true is: "Until there's restriction, it's just another diet"
This is so true. I stopped losing weight after my first two weeks post surgery. Then I lost and gained nothing for the next 3.5 months. With the help of my dietician and my 3rd fill, I started to lose weight and it kept coming off. Just try to eat healthy till you get that fill that gets you closer to the green zone. It does get better, but it's a slow, slow process.

Thanks 2much! Hopefully sooner rather than later I'll be kicking back into gear. I do need to go buy new pants tomorrow so that should be some encouragement!

I've found that while I still get hungry around the same times a day, I am satisfied with less when I do eat. With more fills it will get easier. Plus remember that if you are starting to workout you will likely build muscle and the start with you either gain or don't lose due to the fact that muscle weighs more that fat.
Also remember with the working out make sure you are drinking enough, especially since you are cross training.

really coming to love this forum, so many of my concerns are answered here. My pre-op I lost 12 & post-op I lost another 12. Since then I have lost another 7. My surgery was 7/19 1st fill was 8/28, very easy to get frustrated but I am going to up my workouts

I dont actually think its too unreasonable - and not for 3-4 weeks out when your swelling has gone down and you hve no restriction yet. And I refuse to believe a couple of rice cakes is the difference between losing or not losing.
personally, I'm surprised anyone larger who was used to a high calorie diet wouldnt lose quite fast on that sort of intake. I would lose weight now on that and I'm only 145lb these days.
My question would be - did you do a pre op diet and did you lose weight on it? Because when you do that your post op period is not the shock to your body it would ordinarily be, in fact your food intake often increases. Your fast and easy weight loss has already been exhausted in the pre op phase and you've already settled into the slow and steady, so post op is often not as dramatic as you imagine it will be. I think if you keep at it, it will eventually start to drop.
For myself, when I want to lose, I need to up the cardio to an hour at a time and make it six days a week. Four is maintenance level. Even if you keep up your gym routine and add a half hour work early every morning or something like that.
But overall, I think you just need time and restriction.

I made 2 decisions when I decided to do lap band .
#1 I WOULD NEVER COUNT CALORIES AGAIN.
#2 I WOULD NEVER SPEND A DIME MORE ON ANY DIET GIMMICK, NO Patches, NO pills, NO EXCERCISE EQUIPMENT . NO DIET books, NO MIRACLE ANYTHING.
Having said that I decided for the first time in my life to eat what I was told {Protein first} and I would eat it in the quanity I was suppose too . {Up to one cup 3 times a day} And I would haul my a$$ around the neighborhood in a fast walk at least 5 days a week. I have lost all the weight, I feel great and I look a darn sight better then I did as that diet chasing and fad crazy woman always looking for the answers .
I had to rid myself of all my theorys ,calorie counting and worries and listen to what the experts said and it worked for me. And it was so much easier to just eat when I was hungry take my Vitamins and stop when I was suppose to. I am so much happier and free .

I'm 23 and in Australia. Pretty excited about starting my new life. Please wish me luck on my journey

Hi there! I'm 2 days post op and feeling about the same as you. Had some pretty wicked gas pain yesterday even with walking, but better today. Actually not in much pain at all if I stay still. Best wishes to you on your journey!

Wow I just joined & am so glad I did . I was banded 7/19/12, I lost 12 pounds on pre-op diet 12 more lost in the 2 weeks after surgery and only 6 pounds since then. My 1st fill was 8/28/12 and I was so hungry right after. But I am making the mistake of weighing myself daily  , because of the above replies, that will stop today. I am getting frustrated too but I am so glad that I now have "consequences" (as I like to call my band). Normally I would do a diet, start off great, lose some weight then hit a "wall" and give up. There is no giving up with the band for me. I am learning how and what to eat and getting active in working my butt off  (literally!). I am still researching band sites for more input and support here and with friends is so helpful

Hang in there. It does get better. I know it can be discouraging because we all expect to lose quickly. I hit a plateau from week 3 - week 9 post op. Then I lost 5 lbs in 1 week. So, just keep at it and it will happen.

Stop weighing yourself, you are only making yourself feel worse. Some bodies take a little more time to recover and do not cooperate well with the post-op diet. Yours might be one of them.
Instead of placing your worth on an arbitrary number, look at the way you are feeling and clothing fit as an indicator of success.
