    Christmas - New Year Challenge

Hi, my name is Julia, I am 31, I have a 6 year old daughter, I'm married, and I sit at work all day as a medical coder, which makes things harder by not moving around much all day. I started my journey in April of 2013 and was required to lose 5% of my weight before surgery doing the south beach diet, which I exceeded! I started at 212 lbs and day of surgery I weighed 188. I was sleeved on 6/26/13 and I have lost 47 lbs since surgery, 71 lbs since I started and I want to lose 16 more (I am short only 5'0). My weight loss has significantly slowed down as I get closer to my goal which has been quite frustrating. Hopefully this will give me the push I need. I love my sleeve and I think it has been one of the best decisions I have made. I am still scared everyday that I will fail at this as I have failed at everything else, but I try to stay positive. I am wearing clothes I saved from 7 years ago before I started gaining weight and those are starting to feel loose, which makes me feel really great! Looking forward to getting to know everyone! This is me getting a pedicure over the weekend.

I really wish there was a way to edit your profile from the app rather than having to go to the full version website. Thanks

    So Down:(

I agree we don't see ourselves as other people see us. I am 18 lbs away from my goal and I too saw pictures of myself from thanksgiving and still think I look fat. I think it's all in our heads. We are so used to seeing ourselves as fat, maybe we just need time for our minds to catch up with our bodies. You are doing a great job, 53 lbs is a great accomplishment!
  5. Had surgery almost 5 months ago (6/26/13) and fit into a size 10 jeans today!! So excited!! HW 212 SW 188 CW 141 GW 125 16 lbs to go!!! Yippee!!
  6. I have this too post op. I was told it is yeast from the loose skin after losing weight and is very common after weight loss surgery. They gave me some nystatin ointment to put on it. Cleared it right up.

Yep! I work at Roswell Park. I definitely agree it is always at least 5-10 degrees cooler downtown than anywhere else. Not to mention it seems like the air conditioning always seems to be on in my department.

Same here. I have been thinking about getting my winter coat out too, and my daughters since she has to walk to school. I have a winter coat that I used to fit into that fits again and I'm excited that I will get to wear it this year! Hoping it warms up a little by the end of the week. Stay warm!!
  10. Hi, I'm almost 4 months post op (6/26/2013) and the weight loss has slowed way down (kind of frustrated). My highest weight was 212 and surgery weight was 188. I am at 146 today and I have about 21 lbs to be at my goal of 125 lbs. I am short only 5'0". I haven't been exercising as much as I should and I know I need to change that. I just need to get motivated and I am having a hard time doing that. I have gone on a couple of hikes with my husband which I have never been able to do and actually did an 8 mile hike in 2 days a few weeks ago! I was so very proud of myself! It hasn't been easy, it's hard work making good decisions and I do admit I don't always make good decisions, but it's a work in progress. Getting the sleeve done was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I would do it again in a heart beat. I feel so good and I'm getting my self esteem back. Thanks for listening!

    4 months post op

I still can't tolerate cooked broccoli ( or uncooked for that matter). It gives me horrible gas and diarrhea(sorry tmi). I got the ok to start on uncooked veggies but haven't tried yet, I'm a little scared. I haven't tried Beans either and we are going to make chili this weekend, so I will be trying those for the first time. There isn't much I can't tolerate, sweets included. I haven't tried bread or rice either.

    Before and After Pics

I had surgery 6/26, down 42 lbs since surgery, 65 from my highest weight of 212lbs. I am 5'0. I am at 146 now and have 21 lbs to get to my goal of 125.
  13. Your stomach is on your left side, it's normal healing pain. I couldn't sleep on my left side for a good 4 weeks after surgery.

Anyone From Buffalo, Ny Out There?

I had surgery in June and I have been stuck at the same weight for 2 weeks in a row. I am so frustrated! I have 23 lbs to go to be at goal.

    Constipation

Mirilax and I have also noticed that my one cup of coffee seems to keep me regular. Before I got the ok to drink coffee I was having a lot of trouble with constipation.
  17. Sounds kind of like dumping syndrome. My NUT told me to try new food one at a time so u know what made you sick if it does happen. If you don't tolerate it, wait a week and try again.

    Honest

So, now that I'm almost 3 months out and down 37 lbs since surgery, 61 lbs total since i started in April, ppl have started to really notice my weight loss. So many people ask me how I'm doing it, and I hate that I feel so weird being honest that I had weight loss surgery. I always feel like they are judging me. I know I shouldn't care, but it bothers me that I do! Does anyone else feel this way?

I Want To See Before & After Pics!

You look great! When did you have surgery?
  21. julia7665

    Honest

I actually haven't run into any haters, at least they don't say anything to my face. Who knows what they say afterwards though. I know I shouldn't care, and you are right, I did this for me. I actually have two family members who are now thinking about doing the surgery themselves now that they've seen my progress. I am happy I did it and would never go back. Hopefully the awkwardness of telling people will decrease with time.

    nuts

My doctor actually recommends eating nuts. They are a good source of protein. He recommends limiting the amount though because they are also high in fat.

I work downtown too and have been freezing the whole summer pretty much. Someone mentioned to me that your internal temperature can get screwed up with a large amount of weight loss in a short amount of time. I like that theory. It doesn't help that some ppl in my office like to keep it freezing, I think the A/C is on right now... Dress in layers!!
