Time for a new doctor? My lung doctor set me up for the surgery, not my PCP. My PCP is behind me with the banding, though. My surgeon likes by pass better but I don't. I know about 6 people who had by pass and they are all big again. It is a band aid not a cure. We have to want to change our nasty eating habits. I have and I am proud of myself. I hope one day to wear a size 12 or 14. I don't need to be skinny, I am 62 next week.
Do it for you and no one else.

At first my family MD did not like the idea as well....and she said, well I don't think you are that big to require surgery.....So I explained to her that I have been struggling with my weight for the past 7yrs, and each year I seem to be gaining more and if I don't do something about it now, it will only get worst....and I reminded her, she was the one who wanted to put me on metformin. Then she said to me you know what, I get it, I get it.....and have been more supportive since. The bad thing is for me, I work with my family MD, and so she sees me on a daily basis, so I have to push myself harder, just to make sure I do not embarrass myself by failing at this....

Dont get worked up over other peoples ignorance. Its a complicated world we live in. Every situation is diff. Thats why its so hard for people to understand. Bodies are different, minds are different . And it goes on.. and like lucie said " know your limitations." ..

I saw a news program that did a brain scan on people and how sugar effected some people and how it showed up in others... There are those of us out there that when we get a dose of sugar it acts like drugs to a heroin addict! People who don't have an addiction can never understand sweetie. Just like you can sympathize with a person who is addicted to alcohol, but you don't know their struggle unless you've been there. You do what is right for YOU!!! I am a firm believer in "Know your limitations!"

I agree. From one addiction to another for me too... I cannot just have a little bit. "in moderation" as you stated. If I have that food in the house, it might take me a few days to eat it, but I know I will. I justify it by saying that I might as well eat it all now, b/c I will do it eventually anyway, get it out of the way! If I could do moderation, I dont think I would be in the situation I am now.
This theory might work for some, but not for me.
Thanks for this post, brings things into perspective for me

I couldn't have said it better myself. I believe food addiction is real, and the only way to control it is to avoid it. One taste or nibble sends me over the edge. I give a rats @$&? and struggle with every temptation. Here's to us controlling our demons.

Thank you for your story. I'm in the process of getting my lapland surgery done and I was still on the fence on whether I should choose SWLC with Dr. Coburn or another popular clinic. Your story have solidify my choice, since I wanted an exceptional surgeon to do my procedure and great aftercare. I'm sorry you had to go through that experience but also grateful you posted it here. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I have learned so much about nutrition which helped me lose 20 pounds in 2 months which was a great incentive. But I know I can not continue that trend which I know from all the failures. I weighed 282, when I started on May 22nd. I was banded on Aug 6th and I am now 34 pounds down. I am so happy I had this done. This is the best thing you could do for yourself. Just to not have that feeling of the bottom pit in your stomach where you can not stop eating. No more for me. There are restrictive items that they recommend not to eat, but those things are the white carbs which are the things that are my enemies. I am not a junk eater as much as I am a carb eater.

I truly understand your feelings and I understand your "keeping it on the down low" I felt the same way. My decision to have lap band surgery was strictly my decision, it was all about me and I didnt feel like everyone needed to know. It was a hard decision, very scary and getting out of bed after surgery - no one told me about that pain! I wouldnt change a thing. I am very glad I had the surgery, it has been very successful for me. You've got my support.
