    Humiliated for last time

I think any of us that were overweight, regardless of how much, have had to deal with this whether we actually heard people say it or not. It's very sad that we are judged by our physical appearance. I do agree that the dad should have taken the opportunity to speak to his child & let him know that people do come in all types of shapes & sizes, and that it's not polite to say things that can be hurtful. Perhaps the parent just didn't know what to say. I'm sorry it made you sad. It's not an easy thing to hear. Unfortunately, many or most of us can relate some how. In a month or so you will be given a tool that will help you eat less, and hopefully this will help you learn how to start making good / healthier decisions. It's quite the journey, but I assure you, it's well worth it. Best of luck!

    Brain tired

Hi there, My husband has to get testosterone shots every 2 weeks. I can tell you he immediately feels drained / tired when he doesn't have it 'on time.' It affects his energy levels, and it makes me grumpy too While I think getting the B 12 shot might be helpful, you should probably talk to your regular Dr about getting those testosterone shots again too. I'm pretty sure that will help. Take care of yourself!
  3. Hi Lucy, You're stomach is recovering from major surgery, so you don't want to over do it, especially in the beginning. Protein drinks, pureed Soups, mashed potatoes should all be fine right now, but I don't think your stomach is ready for the cheese at this point. Try to hold off on that for just a little bit longer. You should focus on the menu plan your Dr's office gave you because they know what your stomach can handle at each stage. Each week brings you a new opportunity to try different, new foods. Be patient as the time does go by quickly. Check that food plan again, and if you need to, call your NUT or Dr's office for better advice. Hang in there. Fran
  4. No doubt everything will go smoothly & you'll continue this journey to a healthier you! Good luck!
  5. I was a 44DD, although my Dr thinks I was larger. I had breast reduction, prior to even thinking about having surgery. For the record, they took off about 3 1/2 pounds on 1 side & around 2 1/2-3 on the other. I averaged a 38C before surgery. Not bad, I thought! Then, I had WLS surgery, and now (110 pounds lighter), I'm at a measly 34B. I call them boy boobs now. I swear when I bend over, I have these little saggy boobies. I went from VERY well endowed to VERY NOT endowed, LOL.

    worries

Rest assured, your concerns are very normal, especially this early on. Many, if not most of us, have felt this way at one time or another. I also grew up with that train of thought... "there are starving people in the World... eat everything..." But, my attitude quickly changed as I simply could not eat everything. Your stomach is like 85% smaller so it just can't handle eating those large portions any longer. The best part is that you won't feel deprived either. After the few oz you've eaten, depending on what stage your on, you will feel pleasantly satisfied. Take one day at a time & follow your Dr's instructions for each phase. You'll do just fine. Hang in there!!
  13. Congrats, you look great!
  14. Congratulations Alex, what a wonderful accomplishment. This site has helped & provided support to many people, including myself. Love being involved, and looking forward to future opportunities that could result from it

    Amusement parks

I would say it's OK, as long as you don't go on anything that might jam into your stomach in any way since you're only 8 weeks out. I ca't imagine it would harm you in any way, but give your Dr's office a call. They can best answer this question, and with medical expertise
  17. Enjoy that moment, savour it, and keep up the great work! It feels great when we can look in the mirror & actually enjoy our reflection

    Worried Mom.

Any surgery has its risks so this isn't any different. I don't think 'reading' or 'watching' informational videos will help, but rather pose more questions. It might help if she goes with you to your surgeon's office so she can ask questions directly to your Dr., maybe even sit in on a seminar as well. She can go with a list of questions that could also be helpful to you as well. You never know. Good luck, I'm sure it'll turn out well
  19. As time goes by, I find myself clinging to a few favorite foods over & over again. Some have more Protein than others, but still remain my "go-to" foods. Does anyone else feel the same way? Here are 2 of mine: Cabbage Pork Vegetable Soup - pork maple ground sausage, onions, cabbage, canned & drained navy Beans, mixed veggies, low sodium vegetable & beef broth. Cook onions, add pork sausage. Drain, put back in pot. Add broth, veggies & navy beans. Cook for 30 minutes. Add cabbage & cook an additional 15-20 minutes. The longer it cooks, the better the flavor (in my opinion). The pork sausage & combination broths give this soup a very flavorful taste. I measure out 1 cup & freeze it for lunch or dinner. Stouffer's Spinach Souffle - I split the package into 2 servings & it's more than enough as I add some type of a protein to this (chicken or even turkey meatballs) Any others out there?

It's official! I'm excited to announce that our next North Denver Bariatric Meetings are scheduled. LB or GS? Need help

I had LP in August of 2012 (surgery weight 245, pants size 22+), and lost about 90 pounds (155, pants size 12/14). Ran into issues Apr - Dec 2013, then had to have a complete unfill in Dec (during a mini vacation in a NYC ER room). Had a revision to the sleeve Jan 2014. I now fluctuate around 136-138 pds (pants size 8). I'm sure I could lose more if I wanted to, but my calories are higher so I maintain, and am content. Hind sight > I would have totally started with the sleeve instead of having the LP in the first place. The restriction is different. I don't (thankfully) have any reflux at this point but I'm only 5 months post op. If I eat too much, my stomach gets gassy & sometimes my nose starts to run. I hear some people get the runny nose. Weird.... It's a personal decision & I can only say is that this is a tool. We all have to make the decision to eat healthier or we WILL gain it all back. I could eat chocolate all day (if I liked it) and not bother with Protein, so it's up to you to make the right food choices. You 'are' in control! Wishing you the best of luck.

Hi there, Regarding the meetings (Winning By Losing), yes, we are definitely planning on follow up B.P. support meetings. In the process of (hopefully) finalizing the date & location of our next meeting in mid July. I will post that info once it's all confirmed. As for support meetings with Kaiser, I would reach out to your Kaiser Dr. I'm sure they have meetings in South Denver. The one some of us attend is probably a little too far for you to drive to (although you are more than welcome to join us). Davop56 - Trust me, we've all had concerns in one way or another. My original concern was that the sleeve was so permanent, in comparison to the band. As it turned out, for me, I do wish I had started with the sleeve in the first place. I'm so much happier with it. Granted, whichever surgery you wind up with, you are in control! It's up to you to make healthier choices & eat better. The WLS is a tool that should help you control your appetite. It's a personal choice but SO worth it. To ALL: Feel free to join us on my FB Mission Slimpossible web site. It's a private / closed group so none of your FB friends / family will be able to see what you post/read from that page. I've found the easiest way to join is to friend me on FB. Fran Catalan Porter. Mind you, you will see everything I post on my personal page (Don't use that against me, LOL), but I will immediately add you to the Mission Slimpossible page. That is where I (and others) will post in comment. I will not intrude on anyone's personal FB page. Have a great Saturday!
  24. I usually donate my clothes to Good Will, but would love to pay it forward to someone on here that might need it. Found some size 16 ,14 & 12 pants and some tops. Let me know if you could use any!
  25. Clothes have all now been spoken for, thanks for inquiring!
